First connection.

A pulse of light and Nightshade was in. The net was huge, but the network he had been plugged into looked small. Nothing really going on in particular. Nightshade looked around, curious about may things. The little cat navi would proceed onwards, mostly just...walking around with no real objective. Exploring seemed to interest him, he liked going off the main road into the smaller alleyways. With his tail behind him waving in slow low arcs just above the ground, Nightshade took in his very first moment in the network. He wondered what kind of things he could actually do there. Many, Shane had told him.

Technically he was there to buy something to celebrate his initialization, but he really didn't know what to get mostly becaus he literally did not know. He was just there strolling around the quiet ACDC town network observing all the other Navis go about their busines.
As tends to happen on the internet, it's not long before Nightshade is menaced by some viruses! A Spikey, an Oldstove, and a Champu meander up, looking for a fight! Flames glow within the Spikey's body, and the Champu beats its gloves together as the stove flares!

...And then there's the sound of a shrill whistle. A lone metool runs into the middle of the impending battle, waving its pickaxe back and forth. "Met met met, met met, met!" It yells. The other three viruses look at it quizzically, and then they each prepare to strike the little interloper.

"MET MET!" the Metool yells.

All at once a flood of Metools pour out from beneath nearby cracks and holes and the edges of the network terrain. Before the three viruses know what's hit them, they're being carried away by a tidal wave of Metools, each chanting 'Met! Met! Met! Met!'

The single Metool that started this whole thing holds up a sign. "ONE MOMENT PLEASE".

A few moments later the tide of Metools clears, leaving behind a trio of menacing-looking Metools and some discarded rockcubes with Metoolish graffiti on the side. It seems one of the viruses dropped a Mystery data, as well.

The Metool interloper's sign flips over to a 'thanks for waiting!' and it runs off.

It's a fight!

-- Battle 1 Ready? Start!! --
Nightshade observed the scene unfolding before him with a puzzled expression on his face. He walked over and picked up the small Metool in his arms, holding it up so Shane could see it better.
"What's this?" The navi innocently chirped.

"That's a Metool, Nighty. It's a common Virus found around the net."

The cat like program lowered the thing to his eye level, studying it for a few moments. Then he looked back up. "Can I keep it?" He asked.

Shane chuckled. "Sorry Nighty, but I don't think that Metool would like that."

Nightshade's tail drooped. "Oh...but he's cute...alright..." He mumbled, setting the poor thing down, observing as it ran off. It was at that moment he saw the three more menacing Metools and the shiny floating green thing. Completely ignoring the three threats he pointed at the Mystery Data. Before he could speak, Shane chimed in for him.

"Alright so let's play a little game. You need to beat those three Metools while keeping them from destroying that Green crystal. Can you execute Battle Routines?"

Nightshade nodded. "I am fully prepared for Virus Busting. Now I even know how they look like."

"Great. Let's see how you move around. Battle Routine, Set!"

Nightshade hopped into an improvised fight stance. He knew the basics, but he never fought anything before. "Execute!" He announced. With a metal on metal shink sound, a pair of metallic claws readied up for him to use.

"Uuh...Nighty? We might have a problem." Shane mumbled, suddenly looking around. The little navi tilted his head. "I...appear not to have thought about getting chips..."

Nightshade paled. "What!? How am I supposed to fight without ChipData!?". The man shuffled around. "I think I have kept some chips people forgot in my cafè. Hold those three Metools off of the Green Crystal. I'll be back right away." The man disappeared from view somewhere.

"...Great. Wat am I supposed to do now?" The navi pouted, baring his claws at the Metool, trying to appear menacing. Shane said to keep them off the crystal thing, so he would try to do just that.

Action3: Figuring out what can be done.
Upon being picked up, the 'interloper' met swings its pickaxe and sign around in a flurry. "Met! Met met!" It keeps pointing at the other thee, as if to say 'not me, them!'

Looking at the other three, Nightshade sees that they seem a little confused, probably because he's not attacking. Two of them look at each other in the Metool equivalent of a shrug-- one takes a swing at Nightshade, but the resultant shockwave is both slow and a little off-target, making it easy for him to step out of the way.

Finally, the third Metool seems entranced by the shiny GMD. It shoots a shockwave out that sends cracks running through the green diamond!

Nightshade's body seemingly moved on his own. He didn't really know how to do it but at the same time he knew how to do it. As the Metool sent a wave off to him, the navi strafed to the side in a swift and fluid motion. Using his claws for extra grip he wouldn't even finish his slide that his muscles were tensed up ready to go.

Like a spring, Nightshade jolted forward as speeds far superior than common navis. "NONONO!" He exclaimed as the shockwave sent by the thrid Metool cracked the crystal.

A swing of his tail to redirect momentum and Nightshade attempted to kick the entranced Metool away from the Mystery Data before it was too late. In either success or failure of his kick he would stand in front of the Crystal and block it with his body.

"No! BAD Metools! Don't break things!"

As if to respond to Nightshade's will to keep the thrashing viruses at bay, his NaviCust flared to life for the very first time, creating strong magnetic forces all around him. Sparks of electricity began coursing through the navi, his natural element manifesting to the viruses.

"Hey Nighty! I found things! Here they come: Battlechip, Cannon, Slot in!"

The navi's hand morphed into a standard Green cannon. He pointed the barrel in the viruses' general direction and pulled the trigger to fire it.

Action1: Swift Strike at MetoolC [Dodge/ 40 Elec]
Action2: SetMagnet
Action3: Cannon on MetoolB
Seeing Nightshade's lunge, one of the Metools immediately drops below its helmet. It is not, however, the Metool that Nightshade gives a swift kick, knocking the Metool into its brother before it explodes. This flips the helmet-hider Metool, who's left kicking its feet in a vain attempt to right itself. Just for good measure, Night magnetizes the field, sticking the remaining upright Metool to the ground! It starts to thrash and to flail, and the remaining Metool fires off another shockwave that misses. Nightshade watches the shockwave hit a Rockcube and keep going, meaning his body wouldn't do much to shield the GMD.

"Alrighty Nightshade, I think you got the gist of it no? Let's go get em. BattleChip, ZapRing...RageClaw...ShotGun Slot in!"

Nightshade had to admit he was getting the hang of it. And he was actually enjoying it a little. Since the first Metool was currently incapacitated, he opted to focus over to the other one that barely whiffed his attack. The electricity around his body condensed into a ring like chakram he tightly gripped with his hand. Digging his claws into the terrain for extra traction, he carged the other virus head on. Allowing gravity to push his body downward, he threw the electic ring at the Metool as he performed another slide. He could go faster though. He felt it in his body. He could move faster than that.

With added effort, Nightshade pulled out more speed from his muscles. Slamming his claw into the stage he used it as a turning point to orbit around the Metool and leap at the small virus from its blind side. His claws sparkled with power as he attempted to deliver a powerful Slash at the opponent! With one of his claws still planted firmly on the ground the navi fluidly transitioned into a one handed hand stand straight out of a Breakdancer's dance moves. He used the leftover momentum to pivot on his axis and fire the shotgun through one Metool at the other Metool that was thrashing upside down. "Line em up, Knock em down!"

Shane chuckled. He liked the little guy already. His way of fighting was more of a playful cat vs mouse kinda deal. He could dig that. He always wanted a cat anyway.

With the battle over, the GMD obediently pops open. It contains data for the Team1 battlechip!

With his duty done, the interloper Metool runs screaming into the distance, its cries of "Met! Met! Met!" seeking another new player Navi to torment introduce to the rules internet...
Nightshade grasped at the chip data, uploading it to Shane so that he could grab the chips. All in all he did well it seemed. Two new chips for him to use. Turning his head over to the strange Metool, the navi mused.

"Uh...what a strange guy..."

"Something wrong, Nighty?" The navi's op chimed in from above. "I did't get to say goodbye...or tell him my name..." the navi replied a little sad. That comment took a smile from Shane's face. "I'm sure we'll see him again if we come back here. Now, how about we go find a BBS and get you some knowledge of the Net? We could also see if we can help someone with something. Or we could keep on collecting chips and get stronger."

Nightshade kept staring to the fleeing Metool until his eues could no longer follow the little thing. "...Alright..." he agreed, going on his merry way.

Looking for Battle 2, 100HP!
Nightshade finds his second battle! A quartet of viruses menace this area, and have cracked several panels...!

Battle Routine, Execute!

The little navi didn't even give the viruses time to breathe. This time they were ready! Game on! Taking note of the block in the middle, Nighty's mind raced with possibilities. "Shane, I need a Claw!" the cat navi chimed, sliding behind the block for cover, making sure to zig zag and vault over any creacked panels. "You got it! RageClaw1 slot in!" His operator promptly swiped in the necessary chip. He was definitely getting better and this. Nightshade waited for his claws to begin glowing with energy before attempting to grab hold of of the heavy chuck of stone and hurling it at the Miner with some difficulty. If he couldn't squish it, maybe he could push it off the stage?

There was no time to really wait around. He charged the viruses straight on, runing under the block he actually threw as if using it as makeshift cover. Once within range, the navi engaged the viruses in a flurry of claw swipes. That type of combat was his forte. He looked right in his element. "I see another Mystery Data!"

Shane nodded. "Got it. We got more enemies this time, so we ned to up our game. Keep all their eyes trained on you! Keep them busy!"

"Got it!"

Nightshade's toss strikes its intended target (60), but then the Miner sinks into the ground, carrying a stack of mines with it.

Next, Nightshade and the Spooky virus clash! It teleports up and licks the cat (10) with a long tongue-slap, and then it's erased from existence by Nightshade's claws. He lunges for the Metool next, and the little coward ducks under its hat in response, leaving his attack to tink off of the Metool's helmet.

The Miner reappears, done with its dark work...

The cat navi was relentless in his assault. Shrugging off the rather gross lick, he rolled to the side, skidding to a stop ducked down on all fours besides the little Shrubby. "Hey, little guy. We can make a deal. You don't attack me and the Mystery Data, and I won't hurt you. Alright?" He gave the little guy a playful pat on the head.

Now, to take care of the Miner. How about preventing him from burrowing into the ground? That sounds neat. Nightshade pounced at the guy, baring his claws with full intent of burrowing them into its body. For good measure, he slapped his paw on the ground to magnetize it.

Action3: RageClaw1 on Miner
Before the Miner can lay down another set of mines, Nightshade gives it the claws. The Shrubby that the navi let off the hook runs and cowers behind the nearby GMD! The nearby Metool pops out from under its helmet... and completely misses Nightshade with its attack. The lonely Shockwave travels off into the distance...

Seeing as the Metool was now out of his shell, Nightshade used that moment to strike! He reached in and swiped with his claws, then using his amazing speeds to his advantage, he circled the opponent and threw a ZapRing that had been promptly slotted in by his NetOP. The disk flew above the ground, then rose up in the air and curved. What seemed a off target shot was instead a curve throw! The cat Navi turned over to the terrified Shrubby. Poor thing seemed so defenseless. Nightshade had some doubts, the little bugger could be faking it. Still he did not attack him or the Crystal. The cat was now mildly interested in the lil bugger.

The green mystery data hovers in place, ripe for the picking!
"Nice going Nightshade! Well done!"

Nightshade nodded, smiling. Tip tapping over to the glowing gem and gave it a slight pat to access it.
The moment Nightshade activates the GMD, it becomes apparent something is wrong. Rather than obediently opening, the GMD turns sideways, then forward, then back, twisting over and over like a rubik's cube in a child's hands. It begins to spin, faster, then faster, then faster, and then it stops. Instead the network environment begins to spin around Nightshade, held in place as if by restraints. For minutes this continues, only for the navi's location and sight to normalize on an entirely unpleasant sight.

Not only has his shiny prize revealed itself to be a Mimic in disguise-- the green crystal bisected horizontally to reveal a pair of menacing eyes-- the mimic has brought him to some friends.

A Mimic only spawns if an MD is present, and the roll to check contents comes up as a Trap. The MD then becomes a single Mimic. Mimics do not ever appear otherwise. Once triggered, a Mimic either mass summons Viruses, Navis, or other Battle Programs for the next battle number, or mass teleports all allies to the location of the next battle (which is always within the same network area), and the battle begins immediately. -- Battle 3 Ready? Start!! --
Nightshade was promptly healed with the new chip acquired just a few minutes ago. Then, seeing as he was vastly outnumbered, he began focusing down the easier viruses. This however, not before making sure he was ready for any kind of sneak attacks. Who knows what kind of stupid things those two miners could throw under his paws...or what the mimic could do. Zig zagging past the Mimic he pivoted on the spot and threw a ZapRing as if he were an olympic athlete, sending the sparkly chackram of electricity at the Bunny. He noticed the Shrubby was still there. Wait, was it the same Shrubby from before or another one?
==================
Action1: Recover10
Action2: Dodge
Action3: ZapRing1 at Bunny. [45 Elec Stun1]
With a fresh battle revealing itself to Nightshade unexpectedly, the settling of his disoriented senses was accompanied by a dark chuckle that seemed to echo through the cracked and damage net space. the facets of the deceptive mimic crystal spun and flashed, reconfiguring themselves rapidly now as it sent a stream of encircling purple gas to solidify into a protective barrier around the ghost virus, not far away. It giggled back and warped close in an effort to lick the ambushed navi, but its greatly over-sized tongue flapped above him harmlessly without connecting.

Nightshade was busy healing up the a small amount of the damage he'd taken, but was still quicker than the bunny virus that darted around to his left and sent a crackling ring of electricity flying from its ears in his direction; it would have struck, but the cat was quicker, dodging clear, even as the crumbling ground beneath him gave way. It seemed he'd be hard pressed to find stable ground here, but the viruses weren't actually faring much better, at least those ones on the ground.

After he got his footing, nightshade countered with a zap of his own, striking the bunny back soundly enough that it lost its footing; the cracked panels it was moving across fell in and it couldn't' keep ahead of the damage, tumbling down into a hole with a shocked squeak.

It was hard to tell if this shrubby was the same one he'd seen before and spared... though it looked nervous and surprised to see Nightshade, and swiftly backed off, zipping aside to hide behind one of the large stone cubes for now. Nightshade himself had other problems; the cacty virus launched a head shot at him — in that it launched its head directly, but missed the navi by a broad margin. The two miners, on the to her hand, glanced at each other, then at Nightshade, then ducked beneath the already crumbling ground to begin hiding dangerously powerful land mines through the area, re-emerging a few moments later to the sound of quiet beeping.
