Soundman and Runeknight

"Right." Soundman started, taking a deep breath and walking determinedly onto the bridge. In his mind, he could hear a crack with every step, every single swish of his legs moving forward muted by the uncontrollable mental images of the five-hundred-and-five different ways for the bridge to break off and drop him into the endless abyss below.

Soundman swallowed a harsh breath of chilled air as he reached the middle of the bridge... and then picked up speed suddenly, trying in vain to lighten his footfalls as he ran, full tilt, towards what could be his death.

Soundman leaped only at the last second, both feet pushing for all they were worth off of the bridge, hurtling him through the air towards the other side.

His last thought as he launched himself off of the bridge was a small, quick prayer that he'd make it.

--End of Turn Splice!--
2-4: Run across bridge and make a leap of faith for the other side.
Runeknight eyed Arion and then eyed the ice bridge. He could already see cracks appearing along the length of the bridge as Soundman leaped across. Could the stallion truly cross such a fragile structure? Or would it plummet to its death amid shards of ice and snow? Runeknight was unsure and unwilling to risk the horse on such a hazardous trek. He moved closer to Arion, his fingers trailing a line of runes carved into the stallion's armor. The runes flared to life, leaving the symbols burning cobalt flames in his wake.

"I free you," Runeknight whispered to Arion. "But be ready to heed my call once this fools passage is complete."

Arion snorted in response, his armor vanishing in a blast of dark blue light and the black stallion faded into nothing. Arion returned to the spirit world from wince he came, but waited near the portal, ready to be summoned forth once he could aid his master once more.

Runeknight turned toward the bridge of ice, gathering his courage for what was to come. The pit beneath the bridge had no discernable bottom. Its drop lead to the infinite as surely as a well placed sword stroke and the knight steeled himself for the possibility that he would not complete this journey.

"Faith..." Runeknight intoned.

"And Begorrah," Zan followed.

"What does that mean, Sire?"

"Just something my ancestors used to say. No worries, right? Let's get this over with."

Runeknight nodded and stepped forward onto the bridge. He could see the cracks that had formed, his mind reeling at the consequences those cracks foreshadowed, but still he strode forward. He could hear creaking with each step, hear the bridge snapping under his weight just as he reached the point of no return. This was it...There was no turning back. Runeknight quickened his pace to a run, mentally willing his footfall to not snap the bridge in twain as he reached the edge. Runeknight leapt....And left his fate in god's hands.

The ice bridge holds long enough for Soundman to cross with little event.

Runeknight barely manages to scramble across the edge of ice onto the other side before the whole bridge collapses into a snowy, slushy mess.

Meanwhile, the battle rages on, but Runeknight and Soundman go largely unnoticed.

Runeknight surveyed the carnage that surrounded him. NetPolice battled NetMafia in what could only be called bedlam. There was no order in this war, only chaos that would reach far and wide, stretching from this battlefield to encompass all of Electown Net and beyond. It was up to him to end this battle as quickly as possible in the interests of restoring order and civility.

"First things first..." Runeknight muttered.

Now that he was safely across the deadly crevasse, Runeknight called upon Arion once more. He raised his left hand; a runic symbol resembling a stallion erupted from a flash of cobalt flame inches from his fingertips. He called upon his power willing the gateway that would allow the spirit access to his world to open. He could hear the thunder of hooves, could feel the rumble of hoof beats strike the ground, and Arion was beside him once more.

The stallion was ghostly, incorporeal in the light of the Net, without his armor. Runeknight touched the stallion, running his hand from Arion's black mane to his broad chest. Cobalt light flared under the knight's touch and a rune appeared on the center of Arion's chest. The Rune of Binding flared to life and cobalt flames spread along the length of the horse. The flames crafted the magnificent armor and the armor drew Arion fully into the Net. Arion whinnied and reared on his hind legs, eyes fiery as he watched the growing chaos that threatened his master.

"Well met, Arion." Runeknight told the horse before turning to Soundman. "Comrade, I bid thee stay with Arion. He shall protect you and offer you cover from which to attack without fear of retribution. I shall wade into the melee and deal out my own brand of justice."

Runeknight didn't fully trust Soundman, but he knew that Arion could take care of himself and that the stallion would keep watch on the possible traitor that lurked in their midst. Runeknight didn't wait for a response and charged into battle, a massive sword already forming within his grasp. The blade was at least seven feet long and a foot wide, crafted from a strange black stone that shimmered in the light and carved with runic markings that flashed a cobalt fire. Runeknight spotted the closest of the Mafia goons and struck, the blade smashing down in a cruel arc that would cleave the Mafioso from neck to hip. Before the blade struck the earth, Runeknight was gone, a gout of cobalt flames consuming the Navi and leaving nothing in his place.

Runeknight reemerged in a second pillar of fire, the sword gone and replaced with an orb of flames held in Runeknight's palm. The knight spotted a second NetMafia goon and let fly. The orb exploded seconds from leaving his grasp, four lances of energy emerging from the orb and sailing through the air. The lances twisted and intertwined as they soared, twirling like a drill formed of cobalt flames as they hurdled toward their target. If the spell flew true, the lances would smash through any defense and impale the Mafia goon where he stood. Runeknight kept moving.

The Navi weaved in and out of the melee, confusing any who would target him with their dark intent. He tried to find the commander of the NetPolice and strove to maneuver himself through the battling and toward the Navi. He reached the man's side and shouted over the bellow of war to get his attention.

"Sir!" Runeknight shouted. "I am Runeknight.Exe, a member of the NetPolice. My NetOp is Detective Zanallen Espial. We have heard the call and heeded it well. I have brought a second Navi, one Soundman.Exe, to help in lending aid. We await your command, Sir."

Arion: Protect/Watch Soundman
Soundman mutes.

The battle rages! Police and Mafia clash, lock horns, and bleed and sweat for their beliefs.

One of the mafia spots our heroes, and fires several volleys of shots with a Vulcan, peppering all of them. Arion takes a bit extra trying to block for our Man of Sound.

Runekight bolts into action, smashing the lead Mafia Goon with a mighty blow of his hammer, teleporting quickly to the other end of the battle, He catches the other goon by suprise, obliterating him with the rune blast.

Taking a moment in the break of battle, the commander yells over his shoulder, "Good to have as much help as we can! You boys try to provide us with some cover! we've used up all our long range chips on a different group of mafia a little while ago!"

Soundman managed to shake himself out of his self-induced stupor long enough to come up with an idea of what to do next; he barked the names of a few chips up at Trenn, but was met with silence...

...It was then that he realized he had been standing perfectly still on a battlefield for about ((One turn)). He quickly tapped into just the healing properties of his Serenade sig, and left the audial and visual aids out of the equation; repairing lines of code weaved their way up through him from his feet and finally to his head, which cleared of any remaining fogginess as his Signature Attack completed its' work.

He opened a private line to Trenn even as he began to weave a bubble of shielding around Arion, rows and rows of sheet music interlocking in a perfect sphere around the proud beast, the single guitar chord that still hung in the air remaining as the only reminder as to why it stood. Soundman whipped out from behind Arion in an instant, and quickly announced his plan to Trenn over the private line, sprinting towards the fight:

"Trenn, I'm going to go in close and try to break up some of the fighting, but I'll need a Rageclaw for what I'm planning. Could you please send me one?" he urged, coming into melee range of the brawl. When the familiar three-pronged claw-and-fur combo erupted to take the place of his hand, Soundman connected that Trenn had decided to trust him.

Soundman waded into the battle cautiously, but not slowly, and blindly groped the air for the nearest Netmafia goon he could find. When his hand found purchase on something, he pulled with all his might and flung his unwilling passenger...

...straight at the abyss that he and Runeknight had crossed just a few scant minutes ago. He spun on his heel immediately after, turning back towards the scuffle and striding determinedly into the center of the conflict. He stabbed his hand forward-- and really, all you could call the swift motion was a stab --and grasped, and gripped, and grabbed someone out of the tightly-woven mosh pit of Mafia and Police, then repeated his earlier motions, this time getting a running start before hurling his victim at the giant crack in the Net's floor. Hopefully he hadn't missed... it wasn't a fate he wished to accidentally thrust upon his allies.

Runeknight nodded to the NetPolice Commander as the Navi shouted his instructions. If they wanted him to lay down some covering fire, he was more than capable of it. He turned back to engage the NetMafia as and was greeted with a smattering of gunfire that racked across his chest, marring his armor and sending a searing pain through his body. Arion whinnied in pain and Runeknight knew that the stallion had been injured as well.

"Too many..." Runeknight whispered through clenched teeth.

The amount of Mafia Navi firing into the melee made effective evasion almost impossible. He doubted that Arion would last long, the massive stallion marking a clear target for their enemy's gunfire. Runeknight grimaced as his only options flashed across his mind. He would have to take out as many Mafia members as possible and as quick as possible and hope that Arion survived until the battle was through. His eyes scanned the battlefield, focusing on the NetPolice Officers weaving in and out of battle with the Mafia. He only hoped that they would be able to react fast enough when he gave the command.

"Sire," Runeknight called.

"Time to bring the heat, eh?" Zan answered.

"Even as you say, Sire."

"I'm sending you some weapons now. I'll relay a message to the other Ops and see if we can formulate some sort of signal."

"Very well, Sire."

Zanallen spread out the BattleChips that sat in a pile on his father's desk. He had truly meant his words and selected a number of his strongest fire chips. He was worried about firing into the melee, but hopefully he could contact the fighting Navi and get them to move out of the way. The NetOp's fingers flew across the keyboard as he opened up a private line over a NetPolice frequency that he hoped was still secure. With a smooth motion he snapped a wireless earpiece and microphone over his right ear and started his transmission.

"NetPolice Voice Authorization: Zanallen Espial. Authorization Code: XZR357. This is Detective Zanallen Espial contacting all NetOps engaged in the melee battle at," Zan paused to confirm the information on screen before giving the coordinates for the battle. "Echo Tango November: X-Ray 397, Yankee 419, Zulu 772." Zan repeated the coordinates once more before continuing. "Repeat, this is Zanallen Espial contacting all NetOps with urgent orders. My NetNavi is going to lay covering fire. Bravo Charlie: PhoenixShot Ecks Deuce and FlameLine. At signal, have all NetPolice Navi drop to the floor to avoid fire. Repeat: At signal, all Navi to drop to floor to avoid Bravo Charlie Trio."

Meanwhile, Runeknight could feel the build up of energy that accompanied the BattleChips being slotted into his system. An aura of power surged around him, growing stronger with each passing moment, and Runeknight struggled to hold the flow of energy from bursting forth. He channeled the raw power, allowing it to flow through his armored body and settle within his hands. The power continued to build, but Runeknight forced it to wait. The knight could only hope that his fellow Navi would be able to respond in time and avoid his attack. Zan could only hope that the other NetOps received his message and would be able to do what was required of them.

"Sire," Runeknight intoned.

"On three," Zan answered.

Runeknight nodded and scanned the battlefield. The NetPolice fought NetMafia in a blistering melee. Energy blades shined white hot as they crashed together, sparks flying wildly. Hammers clanged against shields, adding to the deafening clamor of battle. Here and there a weapon struck true, though there was little to tell whether the strike was due to luck or skill, and a sickening crunch was followed by a pained shriek or, even worse, a bone-chilling silence. The few gunmen left on either side shot wildly and seemingly at random, the battle too fierce to allow for proper aim. Runeknight waited...and hoped.

"Detective Espial," Runeknight heard the voice as clear as Zan did. Its Electopian accent was thick. "Your timing couldn't have been better."

"Lieutenant Ryushima?" Zan asked, recognizing the voice.

"Hai," the voice answered. "Good to see you Zan. Tremor said he recognized Runeknight in the melee. We've heard your plan and we agree to it. When you give the word, all of the NetPolice Navi will drop down."

"Good, good," Zan's relief was evident. "Be ready for it will come momentarily."

"Hai, and Runeknight? May your aim be true."

"As you say," the Navi answered as he readied himself for what was to come.

The power surging within the knight was eager to be released, was begging to be brought to bear. His arms were shining a cherry red, the black armor pulsing with the fires held within it. He couldn't last much longer and was relieved to here that the NetPolice had understood the plan. Now it all relied on his aim and their reflexes. He glanced Arion and Soundman out of the corner of his eyes and shouted a warning to the pair.

"Arion, Soundman!" Runeknight shouted over the dim of battle. "Be mindful of their strikes. There are too many of them for us to remain unwary. Dodge their attacks best you can."

And mine own. Runeknight added silently.

It was time. He could hold the power within him no more.

"One," Zan called.

Runeknight readied himself, taking a wide stance so that he could sweep the flames across the battlefield.

"Two."

The knight nodded to himself. This was it. This was the end.

"Now!"

Runeknight unleashed the pent up flames. He raised his arms parallel to the ground, aiming out across the battlefield. An inferno exploded from his grasp, twin gouts of flame reaching out from his fingertips. Runeknight hoped that the NetPolice would get out of the way in time. He hoped that Arion and Soundman would be able to avoid the all-consuming flames. He turned and the flames turned with him, the fire sailing over the battlefield at chest height.

The fires burned hot and strong, empowered by the knight's own strength and that of the ancient weapons at his lord's disposal. Runeknight cut a swath across the battlefield, twisting his body and swinging his arms to allow the inferno to consume all that still stood within its path. There was no real aiming involved. He merely strived to keep the fire on a linear path, to keep it from dipping low and scorch the NetPolice officers that should have been huddling against the ground while their enemies were torched. With any luck, this would end it and no more of his comrades would have to die.

Arion: Dodge
The savage clash continues, and in fact, gets worse. The damage to everyone's swords and other melee weapons start to strain, and a few break and burst, sending wild peices of energy shrapnel everywhere. It's a good thing that wars are rare in the real world, because if these Navis were human, it would be a meat grinder bloodbath. Several Navis on both sides show grevious wounds from the battle, oozing raw data spilling over the ground, staining it, some with missing limbs, or worse...

Soundman's melodies restore the wearied spirts of not only himself and Arion, but they seem to be instilling confidance in the NetPolice as well! The Police beat the line back once more, and Soundman has no trouble hefting the mafia goon and hucking him into the pit. As the screams of terror fade away into the abyss, he reaches for a nother, but this guy is slightly more inclined to avoid falling to his death, particularly after just hearing his buddy do so. Soundman still throws him, but manages to cling onto the edge, the broken remains of his sword holding him steady.

At this point, Runeknight removes any doubt from anyone's mind that he isn't a Fire Navi. As the raginging inferno blossoms outwards, the police Navis drop down to avoid almost certain burnination. ((Sorry!)) The Mafia, however, got no such warning, and were all hit dead on. As the fires tear away at what little data remains of them, the one mafia still clinging to life on the edge of the pit tanks himself that he had the good fortune to be there...

But, by what can only be described as shear, dumb, luck, Soundman, who had neither warning of the impending attack, nor the posistion to be threatened by said attack, is grazed for a rogue flame, which damages his only slightly. (10) But, in suprise, he stumbles back, and steps on the clenched fingers of the last mafia.

The mafia didn't even scream. He was too shocked to react that now, he too was falling for a very long time...

"Thank you, Soundman, Runeknight." the commander said while giving them a quick salute. "I doubt we would have won out without your assistance. We got a lucky shot on their commander before you arrived, but It wasn't enough to stop their advance. You have my thanks, as well as the entire police forc.." he trailed off.

Without warning, a distant rumbling can be heard. It begins to get more and more powerful, almost as if something huge is lumbering towards them. The pit is behind out heroes, and the rumbling is coming from the opposite direction. Seems like they're stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Soundman returned the salute awkwardly, unused to the gesture, and replied with a lopsided grin. "It was no trouble at all, chie..." Soundman too trailed off, expression wrought with worry as the ground began to shake ever-so-slightly. "Rumbling accompanied by a slight shaking of the ground equals a continuous stream of strong impacts. Or in other words.. Something big's coming this way, fast! We need to either move, or figure out whether or not whatever it is is on our side or theirs, guys. But..."

Soundman looked at the Netpolice forces, face contorted into an expression that radiated worry. "But... you guys are rather heavily injured. Shouldn't you jack out? This battle is important, yeah, but it shouldn't be worth dying over."

On the other side of the looking glass, Trenn looked pensive, mind littered with varying thoughts as to how a Widesword could change their battle strategies. It was a good, powerful chip...

And somehow, he had the feeling they'd be needing it real soon.
Runeknight returned the commander's salute, armored fingers touching his brow before chopping outwards. He had done well, but his plan had not been without his flaws. He turned to Soundman and executed his more familiar salute, fist pounding against his chest.

"Soundman," Runeknight called. "I cry your pardon. I had not meant for you to be injured in the course of my attack. Please forgi-"

The knight was interrupted by the great rumbling in the distance. He turned and peered into the distance, the eyes behind his cobalt visor scanning the horizon for any sign of the creature behind that awful shaking.

"But... you guys are rather heavily injured. Shouldn't you jack out? This battle is important, yeah, but it shouldn't be worth dying over."

Runeknight heard Soundman's suggestion and nodded in agreement.

"You are all very brave," Runeknight spoke softly. "But many of you are gravely injured. It would be best for you to retreat and rest while the rest of us hold the line and slow down whatever may be coming this way." He turned toward the commander. "Of course, Sir, it is your call."
"Right." The commander mumbles. Clearly, he doesn't want to abandon the fight. "Jack out men." The Officers clearly want to stay as well, but they obey. The commander offers one more salute and says, "Good luck." as he disappears in a column of light.

But, while that was going on, the source of the rumbling becomes apparent. A HUGE Navi, musclebound to an insane degree, augmented by several IVs and needles, pumping some form of steroid into his body. It appears that massive steel plates have been grafted directly to his body, the pain to do so must have been extrodinary.

"Out of my WAY!" He roars. "YOU'VE foiled enough of OUR plans here TODAY!" the continues. "I am PARIAH. And you're just BUMPS in the ROAD." as he moves, flames waft out of the openings between the plates. "PREPARE for your DOOM!"

"Not likely, Pariah." a voice behind our duo piques up.

From between them, a navi walks calmly up to the monolithic mafiaman. His feet hover slightly above the ground, and he effortlessly glides across the ground. This Navi's skin appears to be coal black, his eyes, blue, round, and blank. Dressed in baby blue robes, and with various golden metal trims and decorations, this Navi looks strong.

"So, OHZO." Paraih comments. "I should HAVE known it was YOU behind these FOOLS interferance."

"Actually, I've never seen either before, that I can remember." He says cooly. "They don't matter. It's you and me, now." With that, both Navi's go into battle routine.

FINAL FOUR WAY: FINISH THE FIGHT!
"You know, Soundman..." Trenn's voice piped up audibly for all to hear, "I've prepared a little something that you might remember."

Soundman looked upwards, face a mask of curiosity and... was that a bit of fear? "What... exactly... have you 'prepared', Trenn?" He inquired, balancing himself on his back foot.

"Oh, just a bit of a..." Trenn gestured in the air with his hands, trying to convey the point without words. ...Or was he just stalling while he tried to think of a word? Who knows. "...blast from the past."

Soundman made to speak up again, but Trenn stopped him. "Now, I could spend time explaining it to you... but I think you'll get the picture if I just show you." Trenn punched in a quick combination of key presses, and Soundman felt a sudden weight in his hands. He looked downward...

...And in his hands lay his old weapons, the twin Note Axes. "No way..." Soundman breathed, stunned. "Trenn, how did you- when did you-"

"What, you didn't think that I had completely removed all of your old looks from your programming, did you? I had to leave you something." Trenn explained, voice betraying a slight hint of smugness that he didn't intend, "Oh, try hitting them together. You'll like what it does."

Soundman nodded, and held the axes at arm's length- then hit them together as hard as he could, producing a loud, reverberating 'TWANGGGGG!' that jostled him entirely. When he finally managed to shake off the last vestiges of the wave of sound that admittedly stupid move had sent out, he noticed something a bit odd.

He was in a bright yellow jumpsuit.

Soundman dropped the Note Axes out of pure shock, and each one landed on the ground with a slight 'clang'. "But... but how?!" He asked no-one in particular, "I never thought I'd be able to get this old suit back!"

"It's called a GMO, Soundman. Or have you forgotten? I know we didn't use any back in the day, but sheesh." Trenn jokingly chided, "It's mainly a graphic override for now, but later on I'll recover an old sig attack or two of yours."

Soundman looked up smiling, tears in his eyes, and spoke. "Thanks, Trenn."

"Hey, come on now, you can't cry! We're still in the middle of a battle, after all." Trenn laughed, poorly hiding a tear of his own that escaped from his right eye. "I'll send you some chips. Try not to get too close to that big... thing, until we know what he's capable of. Also... from their earlier conversation, particularly... 'Pariah''s line about us 'foiling their plans', I'm betting he's with the Netmafia, which makes him even more dangerous. Be careful."

"Roger that, Trenn." Soundman chuckled at the by now familiar line, then took off running. His footfalls made a constant, steady noise as he made lazy, counter-clockwise circles around Pariah, looking for any potential weaknesses.

"Hey Trenn!" Soundman called out over a private line, "What about those IVs that they've got running into him? Those could be a weak spot! Or those metal grates, those could be hiding something..."

"Hmmm..." Trenn looked closely at the feed from Soundman's eyes, sizing up the big, metal hulk of a navi that they'd probably end up shooting at real soon, "Could be, but for now we really, really don't want to be the focus of his attention until we know what he can do. I mean, look at the size of him!"

Soundman let out a small sigh. "Yeah, but we can't exactly just sit around while he pulverizes... Ozho, or worse, Runeknight."

"Yeah, you've got a point there, buddy. Alright, here's some chips."

A jolt of static ran down Soundman's left arm, and the Note Axe he held with that hand began to glow around the far edge, the resultant effect almost making it look like a crescent moon was attached to it. Soundman pulled the axe up and over his right shoulder, muscles tensed, then lashed out with it; hitting nothing but releasing a wave of ice towards Pariah that covered the ground with frost in its' wake.

Soundman skidded to a halt behind Pariah this time, then struck the ground with both of his axes, embedding them there. He then raised his right arm, which had by this point formed a small, green cannon that he aimed at Pariah... true, this thing was a Peashooter, but they could always buy more chips after they were done here. Soundman began to quickly charge the Cannon chip that had taken over his right hand, drawing in bright blue energy from around the barrel--

--then fired, releasing a small ball of the same energy towards Pariah, and at the same time returning his right hand to its' normal state. Soundman picked up both of his note-axes from the ground, and got an idea.

"Hey Trenn..." Soundman started, "you said I can use my sig attacks in this form, right?"

Trenn raised an eyebrow at the remark, then replied: "Yes, your sigs should all be compatible with this form. Why?"

Soundman grinned. "You'll see."

Soundman held both of his note-axes in front of himself, still grinning, then pulled them apart...

...and smacked them together as hard as he could, producing the same loud 'TWANGGGGG' as earlier. ...At least, at first. A small sound, like the feedback from a microphone that hasn't been adjusted right, began to creep its' way into the reverberating 'TWANGGGGG' that the collision had caused, and kept growing louder and louder, to the point where Soundman severely wanted to just drop the axes and cover his ears, but he stood. He pulled the axes apart once more, driving the noise to the decibel level where it was equivalent to every single unpleasant noise Soundman could think of at the time, then hit them together, this time producing no noise, but releasing an invisible wave of sound at Pariah that would be- painful, to say the least.

Soundman then quickly took off running again, this time running back towards his left-- back towards Runeknight.

"Captain Ohzo," Runeknight murmured under his breath.

The knight recognized the name. Runeknight had been charged with delivering a message to Captain Ohzo. The dying wish of a group of noble NetPolice Navi had been to relay their deeds to their commanding officer and it looked like Runeknight had finally found the man in question. He was determined to deliver that message, no matter what the muscle bound Mafioso had in mind.

"Captain Ohzo," Runeknight spoke louder, calling out to the floating ebony Navi. "I am Detective Navi Designation: Runeknight.Exe. My NetOp is Detective Zanallen Espial of the ACDC NetPolice, NetCrime Division. My companion is Soundman.Exe, a conscript here to aid the NetPolice against the Mafia. We encountered some Navi under your command a while back. Unfortunately they were deleted when a Mafia Navi committed himself to a suicide charge and dropped the entire group into a hole. They asked me to relay their bravery to you, Captain." He winced as Soundman began his attack. "I would like to speak with you after this is taken care of."

Runeknight turned and eyed Pariah, attempting to assess a weak point. The Mafioso was large, a massive bulge of muscle and grafted steel. Cables and injection tubes were attached to Pariah at several locations. The contents of the tubes were unknown to Runeknight, but he guessed that they were some sort of performance enhancing drug for Navi; perhaps some sort of modified viral agent. The Mafioso had no apparent weapons, but Runeknight doubted the Navi needed any to inflict pain. Pariah was...Intimidating to say the least, but he was outnumbered four to one.

"Speaking of the four," Runeknight muttered. "Arion, to me!"

The stallion cantered over to his master, intelligent blue eyes gazing warily at their hulking opponent. The stallion was injured, but Runeknight was certain that he would fight valiantly no matter what. Runeknight would not lose Arion to the monster that confronted them.

A vial of translucent blue liquid appeared in a flash of cobalt flames and Runeknight removed the cork with a quick pull. He held the vial to Arion's lips and allowed the horse to drink its contents. Runeknight knew the potion would go to work quickly, healing some of the horse's wounds and allowing him to fight just a little bit harder. Runeknight tossed the empty bottle behind him, the glass vanishing in a puff of flame seconds before it would shatter against the earth.

"Arion," Runeknight whispered. "This man is tough. I want you to stay out of his reach for as long as possible. Aid me if you would, but stay away from that monster."

Arion whinnied in response and cantered away. Runeknight nodded, sure that the horse would do as he wished, and focused on Pariah once more. Soundman had been assaulting the massive Navi and Runeknight recognized what looked to be a wave of ice. An idea occurred to Runeknight and he called to Zan.

"Sire," Runeknight called.

"Way ahead of you," Zan answered. "We'll follow Soundman's lead and unleash an elemental barrage. Hopefully this beast has some sort of weakness that we can exploit."

"Even as you say, Sire."

"I just wish we had some electricity to complete the square."

"Perhaps we shall not need it?"

"Perhaps. Oh well, RingLog, Bubbler and HeatShot on the way."

Runeknight felt the familiar surge of power as his lord's mystic arsenal flowed through him, empowering him with the strength he would need to destroy the massive Mafioso that stood before him. Runeknight stared at Pariah, looking for an opening. The Navi was a hulk of steel and corded muscle. Runeknight didn't want to be caught within Pariah's grip and started to work his way around the Mafioso. The knight was attempting to circle around the giant Navi, strafing along in order to find an exposed region to aim his attacks.

The power was building within the knight, begging to be released, and he allowed it to do so. He charged forward a few steps before halting, slamming him right foot against the ground. A rumble greeting his stomp and the earth erupted a few inches from his foot. A wooden stump rose from the ground and hovered long enough for Runeknight to twist his body and deliver a straight cross with his left hand. The armored fist exploded into the wood and sent it flying straight toward Pariah's left side.

Runeknight scurried to his right and flicked his wrist. A blast of cobalt flames accompanied his gesture and his crossbow appeared within his grasp. The weapon was carved from wood and was lacquered a jet black. A single quarrel was loaded into the bow, the tip of the bolt forged from a shimmering azure metal. Runeknight took aim at Pariah's exposed side and squeezed the trigger. The bow made a soft sound as the string snapped forward and launched the quarrel through the air. The crossbow bolt made a peculiar whistling sound as it neared its target and then, a few feet from Pariah, it exploded into a wave of bubbles and spray of water.

Runeknight had the crossbow reloaded before the first arrow could have even found its mark, a second quarrel appearing a blast of cobalt flame as the Navi's summons. Runeknight aimed the loaded crossbow once more, this time the arrowhead was burning with a small fire. Runeknight sighted Pariah and squeezed the trigger. The flaming quarrel escaped the bow and sliced through the air, the fire growing steadily as it fed off the stream of air. Hopefully the arrow would find its mark and Runeknight would have some indication of Pariah's weakness.

"And now we wait..." Runeknight muttered, searching for some sign of pain from the massive Navi. "We wait and see if this foul creature has a hole in its armor."

((Sorry guys, been dealing with some personal stuff.))

The battle be joined! Ohzo is the first to act. As a massive sack materialized over his shoulder, he talks over the other, "So, some of ny men were deleted. I suppose that's to be expected. At least the Mafia had losses, too." he said, shrugging. "I won't let this one get away, either, even if I have to blow this net to peices." and to demonstrate this, he turned the sack upside down, and four largest, black devices bounced out, and scattered around to different areas. As they came to a halt, bright green numbers flashed on, counting down to zero...

Soundman starts his attack. The wave of ice crashes into Pariah, but it immediately buckles and breaks away as he begins to move forward. Soundman's Cannon attack is high, but it still hits him square in the face. The energy of the shot seems to be absorbed almost, and Paraih bends forwards, increasing the speed of his charge. The shockwave of sound energy connects in his abdomen, but he way as well been hit with a stiff breeze. Soundman barely runs out of the charging Navi's path as he blows past.

As Arion canters off, now healed by it's master, Runeknight throws what elemental might he can. The Ringlog rolls towards Pariah, but his massive foot burns and crunches the log underfoot, and he contines on, unimpaired. The Bubbler hits him in the shoulder as he passes Runekight, putting out one of the furnaces on his arm, but it quickly flares up again. Runeknight has no choice but to fire at Pariah's back as he moves past, and as the giant Navi stops, it hits him square in the back.

He skids to a halt in front of Ozho, his fist barreling forwards, aimed at the Police Captain's gut. With a sickening squishing sound, Ohzo is hurled up into the air, and Pariah leaps after him, grabs his stunned body, and flips him over, suplexing him into the ground, with his massiv body on top of him, spraying semi-molten rock everywhere. He stands back up, Ohzo still in his hand, and spinns around in place a few time, releasing his hapless victim mid swing, sending him flying. Turning to the remaining Navis, he slams his massive steel boot down, sending unstable waves throughout the landscape.

"Whoa," Runeknight spoke involuntarily as the earth heaved below him.

"Yeah," Zan agreed. "This Pariah guy is a bruiser. We'll have to watch ourselves around him to make sure we don't end up like Ohzo."

"As you say, Sire," Runeknight agreed solemnly. He had seen the incredible combo that Pariah had unleashed and had no with to be on the receiving end of such an attack.

"At least I have some idea of his weakness."

"Aye, he is one with the flame, as I have become. We must extinguish his fire if we are to prevail."

"Agreed, though that guy can take a hit. He didn't flinch despite your entire elemental onslaught."

"Then perhaps a more concentrated dose?"

"Yeah, I'm sending you the remnants of our aquatic arsenal as we speak."

Runeknight knew it was the truth, could feel the surge of energy that accompanied his lord's mighty weaponry and it empowered him. The Navi's legs were wobbly from the shaking ground, but the rush of power steeled him and he steadied himself to continue the fight. He eyed Pariah; the massive Navi stood facing them with a murderous look on his deformed face, and quickly formed a strategy. He glanced at the explosives counting down and dreaded the damage they would do when they went off. He would have to make this quick.

Runeknight's eyes flashed back to Pariah and focused on a spot just behind the massive, steroid enhanced Navi. The knight cocked his elbows and raised his hands out in a pleading gesture, fingers spread wide. He channeled the energy from the BattleChips, focusing the surge of power to flow into his armored hands. A thin coating of ice spread along the jet black metal, the white frost contrasting against the dark gauntlets. A miniature blizzard sprung up within the palm of each hand, snow flurries swirling around in a tornado and hardening into twin spheres of ice that grew larger with each passing second.

Runeknight held an orb of faintly glowing ice within each hand and stood facing Pariah. However, the knight was not done and continued to focus more energy into his hands. The orbs grew brighter, a soft blue light emerging from within the center of the ice. Dew drops formed along the outside of the orbs and twin liquid whips snaked out from each globe to connect into a thick strand of water that bonded the two orbs together. Runeknight held the improvised weapon in each hand and grinned behind his visor. It was time.

A blast of cool cobalt flame consumed the knight and his weapon.

The flames receded and Runeknight was gone.

Runeknight reappeared in a flash of light behind Pariah, holding the ice and water bola above his head. He hurled the weapon toward the Navi's back, the spheres of ice twirling around each other as it sailed through the air, connected by the liquid tether. If Runeknight's aim was true, the bola would strike Pariah with the full fury of the three BattleChips used in its creation, dousing the massive Navi's flames and possibly freezing him where he stood. Runeknight could only hope that his weapons would not fail him now.

Arion: STUN'D! OH NOES!

((Edited because I forgot to add in Arion's stunnedness))
"Whoah!" Soundman wobbled around for precious moments in the battle as the ground shook beneath him, struggling to keep from falling over. When the shaking ceased all at once moments later, Soundman let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding in.

"Trenn!" Soundman called out. "That guy's a tank, I don't know if we can take him! He shrugged off all of the stuff we threw at him like it was nothing!"

Trenn let out a chuckle. "You worry too much, Soundman. Tank or not, the data doesn't lie-- he just took 430 damage. Even a 'tank' can't survive being hit with that kind of power every ((turn)). If we just keep hammering at him with all we've got, he'll fall eventually!"

Soundman steeled himself as he watched the brute of a navi with a critical eye. He'd need to make a choice; go in and try to rip off those injectors, the only feasible weakness he could see, or play it safe and stay back?

When moments later Trenn sent him their Firehit and Shotgun chips, it seemed as though the question had been answered for him.

Soundman stood on his back foot and held one of his Note Axes behind him in a classic throwing stance, then called on the energy of one of the battlechips that had been sent to him.

The axe that Soundman held behind him burst into flame with a loud roar, and small fists of fire could be seen continuously bursting outward from the glowing blaze. Soundman cocked his arm back just that little bit extra, then brought it back around at a frightening pace, throwing the axe-turned-boomerang-turned-flaming-projectile-of-death at Pariah.

The flames that covered the larger half of the Note Axe flickered for a moment from the wind as it cut a deadly arc through the air, but picked up again in intensity as it neared Pariah. The Note Axe curved through the air just near Pariah, but didn't actually touch him-- instead, the fire itself blew outward and off of the Note Axe entirely in Pariah's direction as a large fist; the chip's namesake, the Firehit.

The stray Note Axe then sliced its' way back through the air towards Soundman, who caught it with a slight bit of a stumble backwards. He muttered something about doubting a fire chip would work splendidly on a fire navi, then flipped the Note Axe high into the air with a jerk of his wrist.

When the Note Axe returned to Soundman's hand, it had changed ever-so-slightly; a handle had fashioned itself out of what had been part of the head of the axe, and what had been the handle now was the barrel of a gun. The Note Axe then let out a small 'click' as a trigger dropped down out of the large head of the axe to just within reach of Soundman's right index finger, which he immediately pulled.

The Note Axe fired out a large shot with a loud bang that was suiting of such a thing; it was a weird bullet, full of cracks and cracks that only seemed to spread as it careened through the air towards Pariah. A short distance away from the massive train wreck of a navi, the 'bullet' finally gave up the ghost to the massive spiderweb of cracks that had sundered its' surface, and split into a surprisingly large amount of tiny, sharp fragments which continued the journey towards Pariah.

Soundman, meanwhile, flipped his Note Axe into the air again, returning it to its' original form, and grabbed it once more by the handle. He eyed Pariah who stood off in the distance, muscles contracting, ready to move at a moment's notice should he decide to charge.

Pariah stomps after Ohzo, not even looking away from his selected target. Ohzo gets up shakily to his feet, and sways around a bit. Shaking his head to clear it, he mumbles, "Might be a bit harder, than I thought..." At this, he produces a large candle, which he plants firmly into the ground before charging up towards Pariah, with a quick raise of his arms, sharpened bamboo lances stick up from the ground, right in Pariah's path.

As Pariah plows through the BambooLance, Runeknight was the first to spring into action. As he vanishes and reappears overhead, the Aqua Bola smashes straight into Pariah's face, unleashing an explosions of frost, water droplets, and ice shards. It seems that Runeknight was correct in his assumption of his opponent's element, as all of the grates on his body had stopped issuing flame.

But...

Through the slushy aftermath of the Aqua Bola Pariah stomped onwards, even faster than before. The extinguished flames belched back into existence, and the mafia navi continues his maniac charge. Can anything stop this juggernaut?

Well, Soundman is sure to try. Despite his misgivings, the Firehit works well, leaving a large dent in one of Pariah's plates of armor. The shotgun, with several loud pining noises, similarly lands true. Pariah barrels on like a madman, throwing his sholder into Ohzo, sending his skidding backwards. Ohzo responds with several intertwined beams of light and dark energy rained down from above. Pariah delivers a second wicked punch to Ohzo's head, making him step back, woozy.

Pariah, miraclously, stops, turns, and speaks. "Such PESTS." he bellowed. "You are IN my WAY!" the screams. "I MUST remove you from the PICTURE." With this, he leaps upwards, slamming his fist down into the ground, sending a massive shockwave of fire and semi-molten rock spiraling outwards, consuming the three navi. The range was small enough to only destroy one of the Countbombs, and the Candle that Ohzo had planted, but the other bombs were intact. Arion was obliterated entirely.

"Arion!" Soundman called out through his own injuries, harmed but standing. "Damn it, I should've healed him!"

Trenn broke into Soundman's train of thought before it could near it's inevitable conclusion. "No, you should've thrown up a barrier on yourself, and you SHOULD heal yourself now."

Soundman made to pipe up again, and Trenn sternly denied him. "No! I'm not going to hear it. You're going to heal yourself, or you're going to end up dead. And I don't know about you, but I'd like for you to stay alive and unharmed." Was that... was Trenn's voice trembling slightly? Soundman dismissed the thought, then turned his head towards Runeknight.

The cobalt navi seemed considerably less worse for wear than Soundman was, despite the fact that he had lost his steed. Soundman grudgingly admitted Trenn was right, he needed to focus on himself at the moment.

A wave of green washed down Soundman's arms and into his Note Axes, then through them entirely and out into the air. A speaker from Soundman's usual form clicked into existence on his left shoulder in an instant, and pumped out a quiet, classical serenade, soothing Soundman internally: It wasn't effecting his wounds a bit, sure, but it would soon enough.

As if on cue, sheet music pumped out of the speaker on Soundman's shoulder and wound its' way through the small cloud of healing energy his Note Axes had launched into the air, then wrapped its' way around Soundman, crafting itself into a bubble. The moment the soothing tones of the Serenade that was pumping out of the speaker ended, so too did the sheet music: All of it converged in on Soundman instantly, healing his wounds.

Soundman immediately slipped into a fighting stance as the speaker on his shoulder went away as quickly as it had come; instead this time his subwoofer backpack came into existence with a small 'Vwoom', and began to pump out a quick beat.

The sheet music that this produced started out simple enough, just lines with nothing but the drum cues on them. An electric guitar then cut into that reprieve quickly enough, adding notes to the lines even as the playing began to grow in tempo. A third guitar finally completed the piece-- a bass guitar. The sheet music meanwhile became whole, and the sphere of it that had formed around Soundman grew bright white for a second, then winked out of existence. The only sign that it was still there at all was the single bass guitar chord that ripped its' way out of the Subwoofer strapped to Soundman's back.

Trenn gave off a small 'hmm' over the private channel that linked him and Soundman, then tapped the holographic key for one of their newer chips--

--the Widesword.

"Here, Soundman. Take this. We're running out of chips here, so while I'd prefer to send something else, this will have to do." Trenn said, confirming the transmission by tapping another key.

Soundman gave off a small 'Wagh!' as his hand was taken over by the admittedly heavy piece of hardware, throwing him off balance. "Trenn! Warn me next time!"

Trenn let off a hearty laugh. "Alright, alright. I will. Now give him hell!"

Soundman groaned a bit and pulled his arm off of the ground, then swung it once or twice to test the Widesword's weight. I guess I can work with this, he thought, locking his eyes onto Pariah's form, But I'm going to have to have to get close to him, and that could get risky now that he's actually acknowledged our presence.

Soundman thought for a moment, considering his angle of attack. Should he come from the left? The right? Straight at him? Maybe from above? Soundman nodded as he decided on a direction, then took off in a sprint, pace a little wobbly from the extra weight the sword produced.

As Soundman neared the juggernaut, he leaped into the air with all his might-

-only to find himself lifting around 3 feet off the ground. Alright, he thought grimly as he came back down, looks like I'm coming from the front, then.

Soundman charged at the massive navi with a yell, and struck out with his sword in a wide arc, the sheer force of which caused him to spin, admittedly producing a slash or two more as he twirled in place. He managed to stop on his heel facing Pariah, and used the remaining 'oomph' from the spin to strike out at him once more. Soundman almost went into the same spin again from the blow, but he managed to stop himself in time to simply run straight in the opposite direction, attempting to put some distance between him and Pariah before the metal-head could bother to strike back at him.

Runeknight stood still, an iron statue amidst the chaos of battle. A smattering of flames still burned around him, several embers searing holes within his cape, and a chunk of molten rock lay smoldering on his right shoulder. Runeknight didn't care. He continued to stand perfectly still, lost, as he stared grimly at a small ring of charred earth a few yards ahead of him.

"Arion!" The knight dimly heard Soundman's cry through a haze of emotion.

Runeknight continued to stare, unmoving. The ring of charred ground contained a lump of blackened metal, steel that could have once been any number of things. However, Runeknight knew exactly what it had been and that knowledge pained him. He stood, gazing at the melted, deformed lump that had once been Arion's champron. A low growl escaped the knight's lips. He knew that Arion was not truly dead, that the spirit horse had merely been freed of his bonds and returned to his own realm, but the pain was still real. The roaring flames had seared Arion's flesh, had sent him back to the spirit realm in complete agony. To cause such pain...Runeknight would never forgive Pariah. The knight would not allow that juiced up bastard to step off this battlefield alive.

Kill him... The dark voice whispered within his mind.

Runeknight couldn't agree more.

"And now..." his voice was solemn, but the anger was rising. "And now...You die."

Runeknight moved, his eyes scanning for the soon to be corpse that stood in his way. His gaze fell on Pariah and the rage building within him sparked an inferno. He gritted his teeth, a second growl passing through his lips. Runeknight raised one arm, cobalt flames rising from the grooves in his armor. The flames twisted around the blackened steel, snaking and writhing like a living thing. Runeknight shouted a quick set of syllables, the words seeming to flow together, and the flames rose to an inferno, engulfing the knight entirely.

Crimson sparks of energy sprang to life around Runeknight, dancing from one crest of roaring indigo flame to the next, a web-like lattice of blood red hatred amidst a sea of cobalt rage. Runeknight shouted another word and the coat of flames leaped from his body to coalesce into a large swirling sphere a few feet in front of him. The cobalt flames twirled in an orb, about five feet in diameter, and were wrapped in a web of crimson energy that kept the fires in check. Runeknight glared at Pariah, his gaze bespoke murder and bloodlust, and shouted a final string of unintelligible syllables. A crack like gunfire roared across the battlefield and the massive orb of flames followed, sailing through the air straight toward Pariah.

Runeknight was not done. He raised his left arm, holding it out parallel to the ground. A fine sheet of cobalt flames extended from his grasp and expanded into the form of a gigantic sword. At his word, the fire billowed outward, dissipating to reveal a seven foot long, three foot wide, blade crafted from some sort of glassy ebony stone. The blade was carved with runic markings that emitted bright cobalt light. Runeknight held the blade aloft as though it weighed no more than a feather, his muscles cording beneath his jet black armor. The knight's tattered cape fluttered in the wind as he strode forward in the wake of destruction caused by the fiery orb, massive sword held out to his side perpendicular to his body.

As Runeknight neared Pariah, he let the sword drop slightly and leaped into the air. He twisted in midair, grasping the hilt of the gigantic sword in both hands and bringing it up to slam down with explosive force. No armor plating could stop that blade, and Runeknight smiled grimly as he thought about Pariah's chest caving in with the impact of the stone sword. Dust rose and pieces of ebony rock obscured the knight's vision, but he didn't care. He doubted the massive Navi could dodge effectively.

A second sheet of flame lashed out from Runeknight's grasp, restoring the shattered sword in a more simplified form that was only four feet long and a few inches wide. Runeknight twirled the sword in his grasp, a low hum rising as the blade sliced the air. His eyes locked onto Pariah's and Runeknight struck. He thrust the blade forward, once, twice, with lightning quick movements and deadly accuracy. He wanted to rip the eyes from Pariah's head, to blind him forevermore. Or...Forgoing that, Runeknight was fine with his sword sinking deep into Pariah's brain.

Pariah, laughing at the distraught of his foes, turned his attention back to Ohzo, throwing two more giant punches with the force of a mack truck into his chest, dealing heavy damage. Ohzo collapses like a marionette with it's strings cut.

Soundman quickly tends to his own wounds, and Runeknight delivers his judgement to the giant navi. Pariah's eyes widen as he is hit by the waves of thunder and flame, but other than that, there is little action to suggest that he even cared. He turned to face him. "So, RUNEKNIGHT, are you ANGRY? Feels good, DOESN'T it?" at this, he laughs some more, just as Runeknight's BigHammer ((That Zan forgot to RP)) collides into Pariah's side. A sickening crack issues forth, and with a somewhat sucking sound, the entire steel plate falls away, revealing a horrendous mesh of veins, wires, and IV tubes.

Soundman and Runeknight team up! Both of them, side by side, charge in, Wideswords trained on the now open spot, Both Navi's stab, and Pariah cannot evade them, and both blades sink in deep. A shadow of a grimace tweaks on the giant Navi's face, but only for a moment, though blood, oil, and other strange fluids issue from the wound.

Unfortunately, Pariah manages to take both swords, still embedded in his side, and twist and break them before they could be used against him again. "Ha HA ha, that WAS close." he laughed. "TOO bad for YOU! Now I'll FINISH you ALL! HA ha HA!" As he starts to make a punch towards the ground again, something suddenly stops him.

"Forgetting someone?" Ohzo says smugly as he points towards the monolith. "Iron Maiden!"

Steel bars issue from the ground, encircling Pariah, cutting him off from his attack. The bars twist and contort around the foul thug, forming a latticework cage, as razor sharp spikes point inwards, the cage is launched upwards, and, as it arcs downwards, falls back to the ground, smashing into it at extreme speeds.

Pariah, breathing heavily, does not get up. Instead he looks up, and laughs some more. "HA HA HA HA ha." he chuckles. "I failed. I'm DISAPPOINTED in myself. But NO matter. I can take comfort IN the fact that YOU will all die, anyway." he laughed. "Once the BOSS learns of the ammount of high ranked POLICE in this area, he'll RELEASE it. You WON'T survive. ELECTOWN won't survive. HAha ha HA hA AHA ha ha..." he laughs, "And now, it's TIME for my REPORT!"

Pariah started to vanish as the Countbombs ticked down to '0' sending a massive explosion, engulfing him. Once the smoke had cleared there was no trace of him. Had he jacked out in time?
