DNN Virus Zoo (Closed)

Significant progress had been made on the zoo recently, with actual viruses occupying some of the cages. Most of the aesthetics were finished, and even the main concourse was shaping up nicely. With any luck, the grand opening would come soon. However, the large 'CLOSED - STAFF ONLY' sign makes it abundantly clear that a regular Navi shouldn't go and look around just yet...

If one were to enter the park, they would find that the zoo split off into 7 distinct areas. The majority of them had at least one occupied cage, but even in ones with multiple areas, it was basically impossible to guess if there was any kind of theme. A large center cage had been built near the entrance warps, containing 7 Spikey pups; each one was colored like a different version of Spikey.

Total Progress: 99%
After receiving the Spikey Pups and removing their viral code, the staff at the Virus Zoo quickly find that without something their mother had yet to provide, these pups will never grow into full-blown... whatever. Perhaps whatever it is could be acquired from a different "alpha" Spikey or something?

Either way an attraction that can permanently display puppies should draw some serious crowds...
Zone 1

- Mettaur -

AKA: Metool
Source of Origin: ACDC Net
Description: Mettaur are arguably the most famous of all viruses, with their combination of commonness, well-balanced battle approach, and dare we say it - cuteness. They can materialize pickaxes to attack and create ground shock waves, but it also has the more mundane purpose of just mining away at anything that strikes its fancy. Mettaur helmets are well known for their incredible durability; anything short of Break type attacks will bounce harmlessly off of it, no matter how strong it is.

Rumor has it that Mettaur take off their helmets when they're feeling particularly relaxed, but there have been no documented instances of this happening. One Navi purported to see this phenomenon nearly 40 years ago, but he possessed no proof, and his claim was dismissed by scientists. Still, there is no evidence that they cannot willingly remove their helmets, so this rumor persists to this day.

- Melody -

AKA: N/A
Source of Origin: ACDC Net
Description: Bouncing, bouncing, and more bouncing...this is what Melody is known for. With their rubbery bodies, they hop here and there, and everywhere. They are a very simple virus in this sense, as both moving and attacking are basically the same thing. Some even say this virus communicates by bouncing, but this is scientifically not proven.

Some viruses carry things that aid them in battle, but the drumstick-like objects Melody carry have no obvious purpose. Some believe that they used to serve a purpose, but as the virus evolved to become bouncy, they became a remnant component. Others believe they're simply there to further its musically themed appearance.

- Needler -

AKA: N/A
Source of Origin: Kotobuki Net
Description: Needler are, as their name and appearance suggest, machines that fire needles. Unlike a lot of viruses, they can attack in three separate directions at once, making them relatively hard to approach. They may look immobile, but they're actually capable of hovering freely, and can even attack by ramming their not insignificant weight into a target in case of emergency.

Needler absolutely hate being grabbed by the handle in their front. Even docile ones will be more than happy to give someone that does so a face full of needles. One careless volunteer learned that the hard way when these three were processed...

Zone 2

- Mole -

AKA: Rush
Source of Origin: Yoka Net
Description: Moles are highly unusual, in that they have no natural offensive abilities. One might think this makes them easy pickings, but they make up for this with their unparalleled defensive ability: not only are they extremely shifty, making even the most accurate attacks whiff, but all attacks, no matter the power, deal a single point of damage. Cannon? 1 damage. ZeusHammer? 1 damage. Bolt crammed full of Attack+ chips and used by an Elec Navi while the Mole is on water? 1 damage.

They may not look like it, but Moles are extremely intelligent by virus standards. It's said that each one has its own hobbies and highly distinct personality. This particular one is quite the cook, and with supervision, it even helps out with some of the food stands at the Main Concourse. It's even said that the Rush NCP came about with the help of a Mole that was fond of Navis and humanity...but these claims remain unproven to this day.

- Mushy -

AKA: N/A
Source of Origin: DenTech Net
Description: There's nothing sentimental about a Mushy; it's a giant mushroom capable of knocking enemies for a loop. They attack by warping next to unsuspecting foes, and poof! The spores they emit contain hallucinogens, confusing and disorienting the target for a short time.

But unlike most viruses, Mushy are unable to properly function without being on grass or dirt, or in mud. Get rid of that, and they'll stop and shiver with fear, and try to flee the fight. Scientists have determined that this is purely mental, and that they suffer no physical harm or disability by being on normal panels. Unfortunately, since the field of virus psychology has few practitioners, it's a mystery that won't be solved for some time...not that NetBattlers that covet the valuable Spice chip are complaining.

Zone 5

- Cactikill -

AKA: Cacty
Source of Origin: ACDC Net
Description: Cactikill's origins are clear; it's based on a cactus. But unlike a normal cactus, it can detach the larger 'head' portion of itself, and roll it along the ground. If, for some reason, it can't return, the 'base' portion will die after around 2 hours of separation, while the head will continue to live on, and is fully capable of growing a new base with time. Strangely, while cacti are native to Netopia, no Cactikill has ever appeared naturally in Netopia Net.

The Cactikill presently on display is much larger than a standard one. We're not sure why it's so much bigger, but research is ongoing. On the bright side, despite its size, it remains quite gentle to the zoo staff.

- Whirly -

AKA: N/A
Source of Origin: Yoka Net
Description: Many consider Whirly to be one of the more unusual looking viruses, as it resembles a crab inside a small whirlpool. Its claw looks dangerous, but it has little purpose beyond looking threatening; its main method attack is a more straightforward ram attack with its water twister. When it hits something, some of its water is dispersed onto the ground as a Sea panel, but it has enough of an internal water supply that doing so has no risk to it. This is rarely a hindrance to their local nets, as fitting of a crab, they prefer aquatic locales.

Despite frequently spinning and its dizzy looking eyes, Whirly are actually quite well coordinated by virus standards, and often have no trouble moving in a straight line if they desire. Their frequent arcing and zig zagging is a deliberate tactic to make their movements more unpredictable.
Zone 7

- Bandcoon -

AKA: N/A

Description: (Coming soon!)

- Teddy -

AKA: N/A
Source of Origin: ACDC Net
Description: One would think a bear virus would be quite vicious...and in this case, they're absolutely right. Teddy are feared far and wide for their razor sharp claws, and equally short temper. Slightly less well known is that those claws are also strong enough to support a lot of weight, which, combined with their natural strength, lets them pick up and throw things as well. Even boulders aren't much of a problem for them.

Despite their reputation for being bloodthirsty, Teddy have a surprisingly docile side. When not in fights, they're often looking for a safe place to sleep, or looking for something to eat. They're not picky eaters, and will happily munch on anything, from remnants of deleted viruses and Navis, to cyber crops. If an area has a lot of this virus, it most likely has a large food supply.
Zone 6

- Gunner -

AKA: N/A
Source of Origin: Kotobuki Net
Description: Gunner are turret viruses, speculated to be descendants of Canodumb and CannonGuard. Unlike those two, however, a tiny being can be seen manning it, giving it a slightly more organic appearance. As one would expect, they locate a target, then use their machine gun to fill their target with holes. Less obvious is that they have two separate types of rounds. One is stronger, but it produces such recoil that it's very hard to aim. The other is very weak, but its minimal recoil makes it quite accurate.

When not battling, Gunner like to observe others with their binoculars. They seem to particularly enjoy watching viruses that can fly, like Fishy.

- Puffy -

AKA: Senbon
Source of Origin: Yoka Net
Description: There are two different types of viruses called Puffy. With a more complex appearance, this type isn't quite as old, but it does more closely resemble a blowfish. As one might expect, it attacks by rapidly ballooning its body outward, and shooting large needles at its enemies. It can seemingly hover in the air, but aside from looking neat, it has absolutely no impact on its battling ability, and the ground affects them as much as any other land-based virus. It doesn't even move during battle unless forced to by some outside force.

Unlike some viruses, Puffy rarely actively seek out fights, being perfectly content to loll around until one draws near. Part of this is because, while they can float, they are very poor swimmers; anything more than a couple of knots is an impressive feat for one. This is also why they choose to not move during battle, as it would do little to prevent being hit, and it allows them to focus on attacking.

- Shrubby -

AKA: N/A
Source of Origin: ACDC Net
Description: Whenever Shrubby encounter an enemy, they will immediately hide behind something, whether an ally or an object. From there, they'll only show themselves in order to attack by spitting out logs that roll along the ground. But isn't why they're well-known as cowardly; they're one of the few viruses that, to a single specimen, are known to actively flee from battle. They'll happily do so if there's nothing to hide behind. Exactly why is unknown. Maybe it's having a bad bush day?

This particular Shrubby, as it turns out, is quite fascinated by our language. Whenever it hears a staff member talking, it will turn towards him or her and listen with open ears. Perhaps eventually it'll learn enough that it can speak to us? What would a virus even say? We here at the zoo can only hope to learn these answers...
