Mesmerization

Bump.
Memoriam's foot slips on the platform and loses his balance. He still manages to make it to the other side...but in doing so, he falls on his face. (10)

Nonetheless, he's on the other side now. He can see the next room from here. It's rather dark, and there seems to be an even darker patch on the ground in the shape of the shadow of...something. He can't tell what it is from here.

((IC Time used: Very little.))
Memoriam and his operator both groaned. As he pulled himself rather laboriously to his feet, the ever-so-agile Navi tried to think of some excuse for himself. He had a feeling he didn't need to; Kazu's human standards would have ranked that as a pretty impressive feat of acrobatics.

Thank goodness. I can't believe you actually made that massive jump.

Memoriam sighed. Then he raised one eyebrow as he got a glimpse of what was ahead of him. A grin crossed his face as he summoned his weapon, held it at the ready, and crept up toward the shadow, letting his aura fill the space around him. A fight? He hoped so.
The owner of the shadow turned around. It looked like something that came out of stories, rumors, and similar things.

The Yeti.

But wait...that was just legends, right? There was no such thing as...oh wait. This is the net, and anything is possible here. So yes, there can be a Yeti here. It sees Memoriam, and it looks hungry.

Yeti: 800 HP

Memoriam: 200 HP

Terrain: 100% Ice

Battle 5, START!

Memoriam took an involuntary step back, and looked like he was going to run for it, before he composed himself. Kazu's PET, unbeknownst to Kazu, was furious with activity. Step by step, a tentative strategy was forming in Memoriam's metaphorical "head." Every circut of his powerful cognitive programs was running at full power. The completion of the plan hit him like a human flash of insight. "Not that chip," said Memoriam hurriedly, as he started to slip into a state of deep concentration, manipulating his aura like a master at an easel. "Zapring. Twinfang." The two sputtered words were the last thing Memoriam was able to say before his aura exploded with light, overriding the area with sheer energy. Panels shifted, walls twisted, and the world was thrown into chaos before it settled again-- but different.

Kazuhiro at first wondered why Memoriam had taken the time to do what was a seemingly pointless move, but then saw the brilliance in it. The patterns of snow and ice on the ground were completely different, and what was in reality a treacherous, zero-traction patch of ice appeared to be buffered by an attractive pad of soft snow. What was more was, a thick screen of flying snow had risen from the ground to make Memoriam's approach tougher to spot, impossible to stop. Even as Kazu slipped the first two BattleChips into his PET, his laptop's screen came alive as Memoriam went to work.

The aura blinked for an instant an instant before Memoriam lunged forward to slam his shoulder into the monster's gut. His entire aura was concentrated into a massive blow that would hopefully send even this massive creature flying. Then the aura moved. It flitted like a shadow away from Memoriam's body, between the monster's legs, and behind it, where it stopped the monster's momentum with a massive upper-blow that would surely be painful. Finally, it whipped back into the air to rejoin its master, where he was suspended in the air above the monster, ready to use the aura to deliver a crushing kick that would send the Yeti straight down into the patch of snow that was actually a patch of sheer ice.

Memoriam's next move was to plant his palm in the beast's chest, discharging the Zapring's energy in a powerful burst of energy. That finished, he jumped off backwards, then dropped into a low stance as his aura was divided into two glimmers of light in his palms. He only spent a second preparing, lest the monster get up and attack before Memoriam was ready, and then Memoriam let fly first a white, spike-shaped projectile at the Yeti's chest, then another into the cave ceiling far above, with the aim of cracking a stalagtite and having it crash down on the monster.

[Regeneration (5 x Actions)]
[one-hit barrier]
[Tactical Movement]

1. Misdirection: Alter the pattern of snow and ice on the ground, and kick up an obscuring snowstorm. [Illusion, Take Aim, Sacrifice 15.]
2. Coercion: 3-hit combo! [3x Microburst, Self Slow. That has just got to do SOME damage. Aim to have the Yeti land on an ice patch disguised as a snow patch.]
3. Point-blank Zapring [40 Elec+stun]
4. Smash/Twinfang1 [70 damage, use the second one to crack a stalagtite overhead.]
((Hm...I count...4 autohits and at least once instance of godmoding. *thwack*))

The Yeti stared blankly through the snow cloud whipped up by Memoriam, as though wondering what kicking up a bit of snow was supposed to do. The three hit combo hits perfectly, smacking the Yeti around a bit before slamming it into a mound of snow that wasn't a mound of snow at all (20 to Yeti).

When Memoriam planted his hand on the Yeti's chest, however, the beast grabbed his arm and promptly threw him aside before the zapring could discharge. Recovering, Memoriam fires off the two projectiles. The Yeti dodges the first, sliding across another disguised patch of ice and slamming into a stalagmite just as the other projectile made contact with the stalactite.

A few cracks appeared in it as the Yeti lumbered forward once again. The stalactite fell, and the Yeti...

...caught it.

Turning its cold eyes on Memoriam, the legendary monster swung the fallen stalactite. There was a sickening crack as the frozen makeshift club slammed into Memoriam's chest and sent the navi flying backward (60) until he made contact with the opposite wall. (20) If navis naturally bled the same way humans did, there would probably be a rather nasty bloodstain on the now cracked ice wall.

To make matters worse, a few cracks appeared in each of the many remaining stalactites, as well as some parts of the ground, and a distant rumbling could be heard, echoing from somewhere in the cave.

Yeti: 780 HP

Memoriam: 120 HP

Terrain: 90% Ice, 10% Cracked. Cracked terrain scattered randomly.
The string of profanity that would've escaped Memoriam was compacted into a single furious cry of frustration. He collapsed onto his knees, but only for a second. He had underestimated the Yeti's capabilities. Best of all, his defenses hadn't done a single thing for him. His meticulously mapped strategy had come to less than nothing. "Areagrab! Elecsword! Icewave!" He shouted through clenched teeth, rapidly building up his energy again as his aura caught up with him. The artificial patterns of snow and ice on the floor slowly faded, revealing a convenient but difficult pattern of cracked panels, snow, and ice.

As soon as Memoriam's feet were on the ground, they were off of it again, airborne and carrying a Navi as focused as the shimmering blade in his hand. Memoriam's aura flickered angrily as it propelled him this way and that, weaving a series of dodgy patterns to close the distance with his enemy quickly but with an unpredictable pattern, avoiding either stepping on any cracked ground, or moving in a straight line for too long. Finally, with only a few virtual meters left to the target, Memoriam took a running leap onto a patch of ice. The hope was that the Yeti would catch onto this last, predictable motion, and lurch forward-- right onto the cracked ground between them.

The mastery that Memoriam had exhibited over the ice in previous encounters paid off, as the Navi dropped into a low slide like before, and then instead of carving a sliding slash as he had done with the viruses, Memoriam leapt off the ice and held his weapon straight forward, using sheer momentum as the driving force behind his thrust. An instant before he would have probably been swatted out of the air, Memoriam activated the AreaGrab chip, praying in the few microseconds between intent and result that he had done so with enough speed to avoid the probable coming blow.

When he came out of the teleport, aiming to position himself in the air, behind the Yeti, he slashed furiously downward with all his considerable might and swordsman's prowess. It was overcommitting, but he was mad. He wanted this one to hurt. When he landed, Memoriam heaved his body into a back-layout, carving a cut in the air the reverse of the one he had just made. The cracked panel was dying to be stepped on. Finally, he held his blade to the side as he gathered a pulsating wisp of blue energy in one hand, and fired it at the Yeti, hoping that the Chip would freeze the beast if it hadn't already gotten stuck in the cracked ground.

[Tactical Movement]
[Regeneration 20]
[One-hit barrier]

1. Feint with AreaGrab, attempt to have Yeti move forward and slip
2. Lunge with ElecSword [80 Elec, x2 due to ice terrain]
3. Smash: Flourish with ElecSword [80 Elec, x2 due to ice terrain]
4. Point-blank Icewave1 [80 Aqua, Freeze due to ice terrain]
Bamp?
Bump.
The Yeti falls for the feint, lunging forward and tripping over the cracked patch of ice. The great beast stumbles and rolls over just before the ice shatters. Unfortunately, the force of the impact with the ground knocks a group of icicle stalactites loose and sends them falling on both combatants just as Memoriam reappeared (20 to both, barrier absorbs hit to Memoriam).

Memoriam doesn't let this phase him, however, and executes a two-slash combo just as the Yeti gets to its feet, dropping it to the ground again and sending more cracks running through the ice underneath them (320 to Yeti).

The monster rolled over and thrust its fist forward, which collided with Memoriam just as the icewave hit. The attacks sent Memoriam flying (30), but froze the Yeti to the ice underneath it (80, freeze to Yeti).

More icicles fall, but none of them hit anything. The rumbling in the distance, however, seems to have gotten closer.
