I don't know half of what you just said, but REAL MEN SURVIVE WITH DIAL-UP!  It's like going camping with only a combat knife and the clothes on your back!

    +1 RESPECT 4 j00!

What the hell are you talking about? I used dial up internet until 2005....

anywho, good for you Steve. I hope you enjoy the wonder that is fast internets. Enjoy it, and play Neverwinter Nights, and other such games that really do require better than dial up.

    Edit:
In fact, Fast internet is the main reason I left this forum back in 2005. Because I could play Neverwinter Nights in an online manner, and other games. You know, and not lag the hell out every 5 seconds or some such. Ah, but now I've got spotty wireless, so I'm back to what I was doing in my dial up days, posting on forums and passing the time with browser based games.

    Oh hey...you guys changed forums...
I doubt any of you but albel would recognize me, as the last time I was meandering around this RP was back on the previous forum...waaaay back in 2005 or so. Ah, back then I played a master archer turned hobo, and his navi....an archer. The mean police took poor hoboman's bow. Oh, he was a character that didn't fit into the RP at all. Back in the days when you got a cannon and a shotgun as your starter chips. When you needed 4 chips per level...and when the minibomb advance (minibomb X3) was allowed. Oh those were strange days, and the battle system was similar but oh so different. In any case, I've come back after this long because Albel told me about it. And I've made a new character. Why? well...for one it's not like my old character was really that much better off than a starting character around here. And two: I felt that I should make an RP appropriate character. A character with a job.

In any case, After two years of being gone and having no idea what happened, I've come back to poke my head around here and try to get some interesting RP's going.

and yes, I realize I probably should have posted this a few weeks ago.

    RE: Pol
Pol stood there, in his dramatic pose for a good thirty minutes. He chewed upon his straw, one end of the golden strand bouncing around and leaving tiny golden sparkles in it's wake. The sparkles disappeared after a few moments, and did nothing save looking pretty. Pol waved to a few navi's as they passed, then he slid his feet down to the sides of the metool, his feet holding the metool down by pressure on the sides of the helmet.

Pol then leaned down and placed his fingers around the edge of the metool's hat. In one quick motion he tried to pick the metool up by slipping his fingers under the helmet and pressing his palm against the outside. His aim was to pick the met up, and bring it upside down over his head with his arms extended fully and his hands holding firmly.

Around the time that Pol began this attempt, Yamazaru checked his PET. It was his coffee break, and he was sipping a steaming cup of tea as he noticed the signal that Pol is in battle. He calmly checked the timer, then his eyes went wide. He set the tea down and quickly checked in on Pol. "What are you up to!? you've been in battle for thirty minutes, what...why didn't you tell me? you could have been hurt and I wouldn't have...you were hurt! why didn't you tell me?"

Pol sighed and replied, " oh stop worrying and get me a hat already. You know I want to look dark and mysterious with a hat and a cape and stuff. Besides, it only hit me in the shins, I'll fix myself up after I have my fun with this Met."

Yamazaru sighed, " you know that's really irresponsible. What would you have done if you got swarmed by mets? or what if this one screams out and summons a metswarm, or the big bad met of doom? "

Pol chuckled," you know those are just rumors...no one has been hit by a swarm of mets in ages, and the big bad met of doom is just a legend. It's not real, it's like the easter bunny, or pixie fairies."

Yamazaru looked shocked, and leaned back in his chair. He placed a hand on his chest, and leaned back, " How dare you deny the existence of pixie fairies! They surely are real, as sure as santa!"

Pol held back a snicker, his cheeks puffing a bit as he held his lips tightly closed. He then bursts out in laughter and closes his eyes. The piece of straw fell from his mouth, and wafted slowly to the ground as he tried hard to keep from dropping the met. Sadly, he failed. His hands moved to his sides as he held them and doubled over in laughter. The met fell from Pol's grasp and smacked into the back of his head. It would have a prime chance of firing off a blast directly into Pol as it fell.

As he dropped the met on his own head, Yamazaru chuckled and said, " that's what you get for not believing in pixie fairies. If you need a chip, just say so."

This is of course, all contingent on Pol catching the Met. If it scurried away, he would be busy chasing after it while bent over, saying things like "C'mere you."

    Actions spent:
    1) attempt to grab/capture the met
    2) Action spent talking and laughing.
    3) Dropping met on own head.

    Edited into past tense.

    RE: Subtypes

    Quote (RoboTek)

So none of you think then that subtypes are relatively meaningless in actual practicality?

It would seem that I am the only one who dislikes that melee users aren't better with swords and that recovery isn't actually really better at recovery.

Actually...they ARE. The sword subtype lets you dodge for free once per round if you do two melee attacks. That shows that they are 'better' at swordiness. The fact that the recovery navi can convert damage to healing power is, in itself, powerful. It's the only subtype that can do anything like that. I do however like the idea of having navicust programs that can add power to natural subtype abilities.

Sword: perhaps a +5 bonus to damage with sword attacks? (sword mastery)
Cursor: again, a bonus to damage would possibly be appropriate (gunslinger)
Break: extra break per round? (smasher)
Wind: perhaps a constant hovering ability? or the power to walk/run/stand on walls? (flippy the wonder dog)
Normal: perhaps a boost to hidden power. the normal adds 10 + 1/2 level rounded down to nearest 5. Perhaps the upgrade could be just 10+1/2 level. (pulling a gohan)
Recovery: An upgrade to the healing conversion rate would make sense here. Perhaps 3/4 conversion rate. Or the ability to specialize and convert full damage to healing on self or others. But at the cost of being able to heal the other kind as effectively. Example: Heal other specialist could heal others at full conversion, but self at only 1/4th rate. Heal self specialist could heal themself at full conversion, but others at only 1/4th.
    (Doctor. or, Specialist)

The main problem I can see is balancing the navicust points to be used, as well as the recovery bonuses. Allowing only the 'healing other' specialist navicust would make sense. Because then you don't have a bunch of people who are making recovery subtypes so that they can run around being the invincible tank or something.

(Lol, idk. The older systems, such as those I was able to see, although not actually experience [Been around since about...August 06? Yeah, around there.], were pretty whack, so it's entirely possible if this dude is from the times of old, but I digress. As is, the game is pretty awesome and win, so let's not dwell on misunderstandings too much, k?)

oh yeah. The system in the early times was pretty crazy. took a turn to slot a chip and use it. In any case, please continue Common. If you need someone to vouch for me about how long ago I was here last, Ask Albel.

    Quote (commondragon)

........You dont use an entire action just to slot in a chip.

    It would be:

    1) Cannon chip Koboclone A
    2) aim
    3) Minibomb Koboclone A
    4) dodge

    Or something similar

    Edit please :3.

really? they've changed things....you used to have to spend an action to slot a chip. edited.

(PA Note: Lolwut? I don't know when this was, but unless this site had this up for some of the 6 months before I was here, there was never a system like that being implemented on RECN or RERN. And that's a definite no on RERN.)

    RE: Commondragon's BOSS RUN
The Crazy hobo slots in a cannon and a minibomb, causing one of marksman's arms to morph into a medieval cannon, and the minibomb appears in his hand as a cannonball.

Marksman loads the minibomb into the cannon, Lines up his shot, and fires at koboclone A.

    actions
    1) cannon chip & minibomb chip. Action spent looking badass
    2) Action spent combining the chips.
    3) action spent aiming
    4) Fire the combo at koboclone A. 100 damage? (60 minibomb, 40 cannon)

I still log in to the freeshard for ultima online from time to time. If my internet connection strength wasn't buggered I could send the install file to anyone who wanted it, as is it would annihilate my connection with it's 750 megs of pure, old school win.
