To be honest allowing users to run JavaScript in their signature isn't really the wisest of decisions either. It could very easily be used to steal account passwords by messing with the login box.

It isn't a matter of if they will find out if it's beneficial though, it's a question of if it was a beneficial thing to do or not. So it doesn't matter if Mithras will never get the first chest opened. Information is no gain in this game, unless it helps you reap more profit in your choices.

Well, the simple and obvious answer is that Malius will know when he opens the second chest, and Mithras never will know unless the hat man reveals the contents of the first after he chooses his.

Was Malius actions beneficial?
Was Mithras actions beneficial?
Those two questions >:

Is it... something to do with not knowing whether the decision was right or not? As in, it's better not to know and just fly with it?
Although obviously the correct answer is to just punch the traveler in the balls and take both chests.

RE: Nintendo 3DS
I'm mostly worried over issues like if you get dizzy or your eyes start to hurt after playing for X time, which would suck.
Another aspect is that the DS is getting overcrowded with features. If it is gonna be backwards compatible with the DSi, it's gonna need those two cameras, mic and whatnot. If any 3DS games use the camera, the next DS in line will need to have those cameras too to support 3DS games.

The Riddle of Malius and Mithras
Two brothers, Malius and Mithras, once stumbled upon a traveling man.
The traveling man turned to Malius and presented him with two small chests.
He told Malius that they both contained gold coins, but that one chest contaned twice as many as the other. He also told Malius that he may pick one chest and keep it's content for himself.
Malius picks one chest, and finds a hundred gold coins inside.
However, the traveling man suddently informs Malius that if he wishes, he may forfeit the hundred gold coins he just gained for whatever the other chest contains.
Malius reasons that if he has already picked the chest with the most gold coins, the other chest would contain fifty gold coins, and switching would net him a loss of fifty gold coins from his current amount.
He also reasons that if he has picked the chest with the least amount of gold coins, the other chest would contain two hundred gold coins, and switching would net him a gain of a hundred gold coins in addition to his current amount.
By taking up the traveling man's offer of switching the content of his chest, Malius stands to either lose fifty gold coins or gain one hundred gold coins. These are extremely favorable odds, so Malius decides to switch.
Was Malius actions beneficial?
Mithras has been watching Malius and his situation the whole time.
The traveling man turns to Mithras and presents him with two small chests and the same set of rules.
Mithras reasons that his brother's line of thinking would be correct even if there was only ten gold coins in the chest, or if there was four thousand gold coins in the chest. The amount of gold coins is irrelevant.
By opening a chest, the only information Mithras will gain is the amount of gold coins within the chest, which he concluded is irrelevant.
Mithras places one hand on a chest, declaring "I choose this chest", and then immediately declares "I switch to the other chest".
Was Mithras actions beneficial?
Isolation
I've endured pain. I've seen death. I've tasted fear.
And yet I now carve for these things. To be so lucky as to prick my finger on a needle. To be so blessed as to be frightened by monstrosities.
Anything but this isolation. Anything.
Would it be too much to ask, to have the door before me open just a little? To have a thin ray of light touch my face?
How I carve even the footsteps of somebody outside!
But there is nothing. I wait, and nothing appears. I wait more, and nobody coughs. There is no sound of the rain beating against the roof. No flicking sound of a torchlight. No dripping sound of water.
I touch my arm. It is as if I need to confirm that I'm still somewhere. That I've not left the world of the living to some silent oblivion.
I pace to the other side of my cell. My footsteps are comforting. Do I have footsteps, or are they a mere product of my imagination? The trick of a mind long since gone mad?
I sit down. If the door would just open. Just a little. If I could feel the warmth of light for just a short while. Just a minimal period of time.
I cannot be angry. I've raged for hours, days, years. I've tossed myself against the walls, screaming in agony. Nothing happens. Nobody reacts. I am spent now. I cannot summon anger from myself anymore.
I merely sit here, longing for that door to open.
The Hero and the Villain
I will rise above this world, and my will shall be above nature. I will remake this world in my image.
I won't allow it.
I will oppose you. Enforcing one's will and ideals on others is never acceptable. It is no different from the common thug who steals belongings by force.
Then how does an ideal prevail?
By others accepting it freely.
And if they don't?
Then there is struggle, sometimes by debates in the public square, sometimes on the battlefield with weapons. It's an unavoidable part of the marketplace of ideas.
What of the victims in these struggles?
It's a unfortunate situation when somebody gets hurt, but we cannot allow dictatorship just because we are afraid.
Come with me.
If we are too afraid to stand up then we will lose something precious to ourselves.
Here.
Who is this?
I don't know her name. I found her by the wayside, raped and murdered.
She looks so young.
Yes.
Who did this?
I do not know.
Why have you shown this to me?
Tell her that her death was necessary.
Why?
Tell her that she is part of the unavoidable sacrifice that had to be made for the marketplace of ideas. Tell her she cannot grow up and fall in love. She cannot have children and grandchildren. Tell her that she, and people alike her, must sometimes die so that people like you and I can freely discuss and debate ideas of rules and law. So that we might discover what method of organization is most beneficial to most people.
This isn't a fair portrayal of the situation. A lot more people might die in the future unless we can find the right ideals to work for.
Then tell her that. Tell her that you have sacrificed her so that others might live safely in the future. Tell her that you decided that her death and that of some others is necessary for the common good.
We can work hard to prevent things such as this from happening.
Can you stop it completely?
No.
Then tell her that. Tell her that her death could not be avoided. Tell her that somebody had to die.
This particular girl didn't have to die.
But somebody would die somewhere.
Yes.
Shall I carry that person here, so that you might tell him or her instead?
What good would it do?
Do these people not deserve to know why they died?
The dead cannot hear or speak.
Then speak to the world. Tell everybody that somebody must die unjustly, before their time, so that the rest of us can work hard to make a better world for the survivors. Tell the world that some must die so that others may live better.
I would die if it was required of me.
Would you ask this young girl to die?
I would not.

Drakim presents: [inset title here]
Okay, after showing it off to the chat room filled with many people to ensure great success for the glorious nation of Japan, I've decided to make a thread about my latest little experimental game. This thread is here to educate the public regarding the existence of this game, to let the players brag about their score, and provide a two-way communication medium for suggestions.
(url is prone to changing)
http://drakim.net/other/cannon/demo1
Note: Only works in updated versions of Firefox and Chome, also requires flash for sound.
Gameplay:
Enemies are approaching you! Defend yourself with the handy cannon before they reach you and sap your health!
You hold the left mouse button to charge up power in your cannon, releasing it to release the missile in the direction of your mouse pointer. Right mouse button detonates all missiles on the screen, causing splash damage around them. Missiles bounce on the ground once and detonates upon the second impact.
Hints:
You WILL need to use the detonate trick to be able to fight enemies properly, especially the bats.
Suggestions thus far:
Game Title: Cross Cannon
Want to be helpful?
Post the FPS you get, what browser you are using, and any bugs you encounter.
High-score table:
Heat Sonata: 3113
Goroke: 2721
Kazuhiro: 2046

Yes indeed I did (actually I lurk here all the time despite not posting)
EN suggested that it might be just random luck, but reading over it, it's like....
Long brown hair? His navi uses axes?
It's so obviously somebody from here

I'm not one to get angry over coincidences, but seriously, how many Drakims on rockman.exe related roleplaying forums, who hacks, are there?

How so?
Because I didn't write a reply applauding the geniusness of your suggestions? I asked if anybody had any decent suggestions, you made some, I read it, and that was it. You don't need to be so hurt over the lack of fireworks.
Edit: It's not like the idle servers cause harm. I have them filtered away with the nice filter system that Valve made for me.

Well, you do seem to have created one of the most active threads I've seen in a while. Good for you there.
That's all I really wanted to say, but I'll note this as well. Everyone on either side of this argument seems to really think they're in the right (and I don't claim to know who is), so I doubt either side will yield. Therefore, you're just going to keep trading blows until you get bored. Seriously, move on to some TF2 discussion or drop the whole thing...
EDIT: By TF2 discussion, I obviously mean anything other than this. Just adding that in.

RE: The Halo
People keep saying that the system sucks. What exactly do you propose instead?
The only viable option I see is to let everybody start with all the weapons already unlocked. Doable, but I like having an unlock system. It gives me a feeling of progression and makes the game more fun for me.

RE: The Halo
Hm, but aimbots are common over many games. Nobody makes an online FPS and doesn't think about the possibility of cheating aimbots. It's the oldest cheat in the book.
Idling is a new, and very specific, sort of unfair advantage.
Still, I feel the comparison isn't far off. What if aimbots were completely unheard of, and aimbotter users used arguments like "come on, Valve hasn't said anything before now and the aimbot doesn't do anything you can't do manually with a mouse."
I agree that the new weapons are kinda screwed in balance (although I find myself switching back more and more for specific situations.) but surely two wrongs doesn't make a right. That's sounds too much like the aimbotters saying "aw, come on, the aiming system in this game is broken already".
Also, if you read Valve's TF2 blog, it explains pretty well why their system is so broken and why they aren't doing anything about it. To put it short, all the alernatives are even more broken. If the system based itself on anything else but playing time then nightmares would ensure. Valve has no way to verify the performance reported by third party servers. Basically, you could make a server that does nothing but report you constantly owning everybody and earning weapons. It's only (due to how steam works) your playing time that Valve can accurately monitor.
Personally, I don't think the current system is THAT terrible. It's a lot better than achievement based, where heavies would suddenly start meleeing while ubered to get that rare achievement. That actually happened to me and I sure was a pissed medic for the rest of the day :/
(This system is fair according to the ideology of the Joker in the Dark Knight. And you wouldn't argue with him, would you? :o)

You're probably right... but Valve takes immediate action on aimbots. It's pretty much a VAC ban for that sort of hacking as soon as you're caught with it. We had months and months of idling, hundreds of hours of the time, and they didn't seem to take action so I figured I didn't want to be left behind. Aimbots are obviously game-altering, even to those currently in the game, and the community will agree with the punishment given to the hacker. With idling, no one can really tell because the whole thing is messed up anyways, and you're not supposed to be able to tell the difference between achievement and initial weapons, and hats don't change a damn thing.
Also, I bought TF2 over two years ago. I don't even know where the ToS thing was there. Did they make me scroll through it, or?

RE: The Halo
I can understand people have different stories, and not everybody hopped on the "free items" bandwagon instantly. But, imagine if we were talking about aimbots here. Would you think it okay to use an aimbot if all your buddies did, and Valve hadn't said anything for a long while?
Personally, for me, it's as clear as day. I would be here calling it cheating even if Valve hadn't taken action. Idling gives people an unfair advantage. The idling application gives them an even greater advantage, and breaks the terms of service.
Lastly, I dearly hope you don't think that not reading the ToS means you don't have to obey it. Realize that by just spamming the next button and thinking "whatever", you are still subject to them, and if you break them without knowing all the blame goes on you for not knowing the rules. "I didn't know the law because I ignored it" is not a valid plea, no matter the norm. D:

I waited 2-3 months before I started using it. I tried it at first, and I thought it was sketchy. Then once my entire friends list started using it, I figured hey, what the hell. Hadn't heard anything else about it.
Well, to be honest, I'm not sure if I cared that much. Valve had already admitted that they'd screwed up with the drop system, so I thought they wouldn't really give a flying f*** if we (or f00l) found an intelligent way around the issue.
Also, do -you- read the ToS to every game you play? I sure as hell don't. Call me ignorant, but I'm pretty sure that that's not the norm.

also, drakim, I know you're pretty smart, but 'letting jews murder some germans' was an action to 'merely stop that specific situation', and since nether group was completely wiped out and still hold grudges without doing anything to each other, we are technically 'sitting on our asses'. issac newton's 3 laws of motion kinda apply to group dynamics. 'Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. ' fits pretty good here.

You know what they say Kazu, two wrongs make a right. The only way of getting rid of racism and sexism is to give an equally unfair advantage to the group that was discriminated against.
...kinda like how the solution to WW2 was to let Jews murder some Germans. The problem wasn't gonna fix itself by merely stopping the specific situation and sitting on our asses.
