Nitro was somewhat absorbed in searching the navi to immediately notice the virus's approach. It was only when he heard the rapid breathing of the virus that he began to sense that something was amiss. "What the-"
"Nitro," Chris warned. "The Spikey is right behind you." Nitro immediately froze, lifting his hands from the navi. "If you're about to turn around, do it slowly."
Nitro did just this, and was soon staring down the large beast's snout. He remain perfectly still, watching the virus's nostrils expand and contract, in eager search of a scent that, apparently, Nitro had somehow come in contact with. Nitro relaxed ever so slightly, and began quietly talking to Chris.
"I wonder what it's searching for?" Nitro said.
"I dunno, maybe you picked something up that it likes," Chris said.
"Hmm... there was the chip, the map, that smaller file..." Nitro counted off each item in his hand. "...And the- Chris, send me some of those bugfrag things." A second later, Nitro had a fistful of purple shards in his hand. He took one in his other hand, holding it between his finger and thumb, and gently waved it back and forth, to gauge the virus's reaction. He then layed them in a small pile on the ground, then took a few steps back, testing whether or not that this was, in fact, what it was after.

The Spikey approached cautiously and sniffed the few frags that had been left on the floor. Liking what it found, it quickly gobbled down the purple lumps and made an angry grunt at Nitro, demanding more. At least it wasn't an angry fireball.

Nitro watched the Spikey gobble down the Bugfrags, than heard its angry grunt. "Alright, alright, I'll get you some more," Nitro said to the virus. "Settle down." He began addressing his operator. "You'd better send me some more, Chris," Nitro said. "Our friend here's a little hungry."

The hole sealed itself, and the bomb became embolized with Nitro's symbol. He then hurled the explosive towards the white-garbed navis, and Nitro noticed a green flash amidst the standard reddish fireball. Admiring this, he then jumped backward, closer to the sleeping Spikey, and tossed his Molotov Cocktail towards the hill. Even if it didn't connect, it might tilt the battlefield more in Nitro's (as well as the Spikey's) favour. Seeing the Spikey nearby, he began whistling, attempting to wake it up (assuming the explosives hadn't already).

"Waking our friend up," Nitro replied. "After those frags, I'm sure he sees me as a potential partner, or at least a source of treats. ((Strengthen only applies against a single target, even if it's on a bomb. It's weird, I know. If you want to add strengthen to an attack that may damage more than one target, you need to specify which one would be dealt the extra damage. Also, please target individuals rather than groups with your bomb attacks.))
Nitro was first to attack with an empowered Crossbomb. One of the 1D6s seemed to have misjudged what Nitro was doing and erected a Rockcube to protect himself. The other could clearly see the bomb being tossed and decided it was better to run for it. The bomb landed with a magnificent explosion, catching both the cube and the navi behind it in the sizable blast (50) (60). From behind the cube, two small bombs were lobbed back in retaliation against Nitro, neither of which hit, but diverted his attention away from a sudden beam attack from the other navi (40).
Nitro knew his only chance was to get the Spikey to assist and lobbed another explosive to stall. The molotov went long and landed behind the Rockcube but the navi he was aiming for was no longer there. However, the lava spread out far enough to catch him before he fully escaped (10). He enacted his revenge by activating an Attack +10 chip, powering down Nitro for the rest of the fight.
Nitro had reached the virus and was trying to shake him awake to no effect. The other white navi followed his partner's earlier tactics and created a Rockcube to hide behind while lobbing another pair of small explosives. One of them landed in the middle of nowhere but the other one hit Nitro and the Spikey (20) (20).
That finally managed to rouse the virus awake and it was furious. It snapped its open jaws at the source of the bomb and let loose a large fireball that cracked the Rockcube in half with a cross-shaped blast (120), exposing the navi hiding behing it. Part of the sandy terrain below the cube had melted from the attack and congealed to a fragile layer of glass. It paid no attention to Nitro at all; its rage focussed entirely on the white navis.

Nitro watched the virus let loose a giant flaming cross, wreaking one of the Rockcubes layed down by the 1D6's. "Man," Nitro said. "Glad he's on our side." Nitro then noticed that his body began to feel tired and slow. "Hey, Chris," Nitro said. "What's going on?"
"It would seem that one of those navis used a chip to weaken your attacks," Chris explained. "There's no way of telling how long it'll last."
"What!?" Nitro shouted. "Of all the dirty, underhanded-" but the chip's effect seemed to somewhat dampen his anger. "Oh well," Nitro said, pulling out yet another vial of liquid. "I guess we'll just have to compensate. Send me something that packs a punch," Nitro said. Chris cycled through the chips he had at his disposal, and finally selected the Shockwave chip. Nitro's boot began to feel heavy, as power built up within it. He dropped the vial on the ground, then stomped down onto it, shattering the container. Nitro's foot acted as a dampener, keeping the explosive energy from the concoction within the ground along with the attack's standard shockwave, to be released once the attack made contact. Nitro then fired a small golden explosive at the ground beneath him, and as the restorative chemicals floated around him, he whipped up his buster, which took the form of a speaker. He fired, sending a piercingly loud soundwave flying towards the stronger of the 1D6's. He then readied himself for any incoming attacks, while also keeping his eye on the Spikey.

One of the white navis painfully shifted off the lava (10) and looked at their blinking gauntlet. He called out to his partner, "One. What did you get?"
"Six!" The other one replied happily, "Let's do it!"
Nitro had no idea what they were talking about and launched an empowered Shockwave at one of them (40). However, the minor success of his attack was short-lived as both of his opponents rushed him with incredible speed, dealing a flurry of hits in unison. He managed to evade what he could and reflected one of the hits back at both of his assailants (10)(10), but was still pummeled with the rest of the attacks (4 x 10). Nitro undid the damage with his Holy Hand Grenade (+60) and fired a Pulsar while the Spikey Omega followed suit, attacking the same one.
"Two!" One of them shouted.
"Five! Nice, we're on a roll!" The other answered.
Both projectiles missed their mark as both navis disappeared in a flash. Nitro braced himself for another beating, but they had opted to attack the virus instead! The Spikey dodged as nimbly as it could but was battered by a few lightning fast fists and kicks (3 x 10). It coughed up another fireball in retaliation, striking one of them as they slowed back down to a normal pace (120).
Meanwhile, the rockcube sank a little deeper into the lava.

Nitro's head was spinning after the flurry of attacks. He gave his head a quick shake. "What the hell was that?" Nitro shouted.
"No idea," Chris replied. "But I think they're about to do it again!" Nitro quickly threw his arms up across his face as he watched the navis disappear once again, but realized that they were attacking the Spikey instead of him. It didn't make him any happier though.
"Hey! That's my dog you're hitting!" Nitro shouted at the navis as the Spikey retaliated.
"Your dog?" Chris asked, bewildered.
"Sorry, it just kind of slipped out," Nitro replied. "But still, those guys are really annoying me with all thier stupid cheating chips and retarded jumping around." Nitro began to glow very faintly. "It is REALLY-" The glow around Nitro grew brighter, and small stones began trembling around him. "-PISSING ME OFF!" Sensing that Nitro would definitely enjoy having a weapon at this point, Chris uploaded the Rageclaw, and Nitro darted at the nearest of the white navis. Nitro brought his arm around, and took a fierce swipe at the navi, all the while letting out a loud, intimidating yell. The glow around Nitro hadn't completely faded around Nitro yet, and Chris quickly loaded the Shotgun chip. Nitro quickly produced yet another vial of explosive liquid, which he poured down the barrel of the newly loaded weapon. He pointed it directly at the navi he had slashed, and fired, sending the explosive buckshot flying. The glow around Nitro quickly dimmed completely, and he slouched over to catch his breath. "What the hell," Nitro gasped. "Was THAT?"
"That must've been the Short Fuse overclocking system I downloaded onto you," Chris explained. "It activates whenever you get angry, like you just did."
"Well, it felt great!" Nitro's claw arm gave a sharp throb, and Nitro clutched it with his free hand. "Ow, not so much now, though."

Nitro's anger culminated in a tangible source of power for him at the cost of his own well-being (15). He made his way to one of the navis and prepared to strike him down with an reinforced Rageclaw slash but his target had plans of his own. The white navi brought his hands together and created a enormous ball with the number "90" inscribed on the side. Fortunately, he missed and the ball flew off course. Nitro was more accurate with his attack and laid down some deep gouges across the white plate (80). The other white armoured navi attacked with a similar sphere though his was marked with a "50" and aimed at the Spikey. The virus leapt onto the lava to avoid the ball and counterattacked with two fireballs, one after the other. One missed as the navi dodged, but the other knocked him off his feet (120). He slowly raised a small box in the air, summoning a blue wave of light that washed over everything around him though it only seemed to affect him and his ally (+30) (+30).
Nitro's opponent tried to hide behind another RockCube but it was easily pierced by the Shotgun (50) (40). The navi hiding behind the RockCube rubble could see his cover wasn't worth the cracked panel it was sitting on. He peered out from around it and began to pepper Nitro with Vulcan shots (3 x 10). At the same time, Nitro lobbed a Magbomb, hitting the navi and the RockCube, damaging it even further (A 20) (RC 20). The Spikey was spitting fireballs constantly now and launched two against the other navi but it actively tried to avoid being hit and focussed on dodging them. In between the attacks, it revealed another red and blue cube, creating another healing wave for him and his comrade (A +30) (B +30). Nitro tried to dodge the Vulcan spray while lining up the two navis with his Heatshot but sustained one hit before he got clear (10).
"This is bad. We need some backup." The Vulcan-wielding navi said. With those words, a strange black navi silhouette was summoned to the field in front of him. It was then that Nitro unloaded his Shotgun at the newcomer, deleting it instantly and also hitting the navi behind it (1D2 60) (A 45).
Nitro pulled up a Guard to defend his broken body while he let the Spikey do all the work. Both his arms were now occupied and if he wanted to use his arms for anything, he was going to have to abandon his Rageclaw or his Guard. The virus looked to Nitro's opponent and sent two more fireballs at his direction. The RockCube couldn't possibly sustain that much damage and exploded, splashing damage to the navi (RC 120) (A 120). With nothing left to protect it, it was promptly sent offline by the second bolt.
"NO!" The other navi called out and reacted by applying a crippling wave to the virus (debuff). The Spikey seemed to calm down considerably, whether it was its victory over the navi or the work of the debilitating wave. It was still angry, just less so.

Nitro tossed his shield at his opponent and managed to strike him in the shin. The tiny impact set off the shield, sending a pinprick of light past his shoulder (B 1). The navi was unimpressed but still considered the Omega Spikey a huge threat. Like his ally before him, he called in for more back up in the form of another navi shadow. It leapt into the air as Nitro Overheated and unleashed a more substantial attack, unloading a cache of explosives all over the navi (B 90) (Nitro 15). The shadow had crunched down into a spring-like form and avoided the hit but leapt into the air as Nitro finished attacking. He dodged but it was no use as the weird entity landed on him in a belly flop (Nitro 15).
The Spikey attacked the navi with two fireballs - one of which hit him directly (B 120) while the other was blocked off by yet another RockCube (RC 120). By now the virus had lost interest and decided to stop attacking altogether, adopting an impartial mood to the fight. Nitro was in critical health and nearly panicked when he saw two more bombs heading right for him. Fortunately, only one of the two hit him, activating his Undershirt NCP in a pinch. He could see that the Spikey was nowhere near him and he wasn't willing to venture onto his own molten terrain with a sliver of health remaining. He couldn't afford to stall and opted to recover his own wounds with his Holy Hand Grenade (Nitro +60).

The next chip he recieved felt powerful, even in his weakened state. A ball of what appeared to be pure lava appeared in his hand. Nitro quickly pulled out his formula, and poured it over the ball. As the solution made contact, it gave a wicked hiss, and steam rose from it. It had begun to ooze through his fingers, so Nitro quickly located the navi, and lobbed it toward him. It traveled in a low arc, and when it finally hit something, whether it was the navi or the ground, it melted into the ground, creating a small pool of lava. Nitro couldn't help but be impressed. He then focused on the navi, watching for any incoming attacks.

The strange shadow leapt again and escaped Nitro's Minibomb but its attack missed as well as Nitro stepped out of the way of its body slam. The white navi raised his attack strength and dropped another RockCube for cover before lobbing another pair of doublebombs. Nitro dodged those as well and countered with a Lavaball, which the navi couldn't see coming and was subsequently splashed (120). Meanwhile, the Spikey seemed to have had its fill of fighting and fell asleep again.

Nitro rolled his eyes as the Spikey once again fell asleep. "Figures," Nitro said. "I could definitely use his help, and he falls asleep."
"Don't worry about him," Nitro said. "You're in the final stretch."
"You're right," Nitro replied. "I can beat this guy no problem, what chips do I have left?"
"Uh, not much..." Chris replied. "You've got a Cannon, a Thunder, and a Cactball, and then you've got the Molotov and the Powder Keg as available sigs."

Nitro produced a translucent green bottle for the second time this match, and without missing a beat, he threw it in an arc toward the 2D nuisance. Next, he recieved the Thunder, which he promptly fired at the white navi. Not waiting to see if the slow projectile had connected, he recieved the Cannon, which he strengthened with a beaker of explosive liquid. He fired the enhanced weapon at the navi, then quickly followed it up by bowling the spiked Cactball at him. Hopefully, this assault would finish off the navi, and Nitro would be able to move on.

Nitro's Molotov smashed over the shadow's head and the strange program was burned to ashes as it tried to leap again (40) (10). The rest of the terrain was engulfed in the splash, leaving no escape for the lone non-fire elemental navi. Fed up, both his arms turned into Vulcans and he leapt out from his hiding spot to gun down Nitro. Five of the shots connected (5 x 10) but he was forced to endure the pain of standing on lava terrain as he attacked. (10) (10). Nitro struck back with a slow moving Thunder chip, but it was nullified by a RockCube (40). This was starting to get ridiculous. Nitro attacked the Rockcube with a Cannon, pushing it back into the white armoured navi. There was a squishing sound and then silence. He launched a cactball just to be safe but it burst into flames upon contact with the floor and rolled off before being completely incinerated.
It looked like the fight was over but the mission was just starting...

Nitro wiped his forehead with his arm when he saw that the fight had finished. He felt bruised, battered, and broken, and the area they were in had essentially become a giant lava cauldron, but Nitro had a feeling that the mission was far from over. Nitro looked over to the Spikey, and saw that it too had taken a beating. He walked over to the sleeping virus, and began stroking it on the neck. "Hey there, buddy," Nitro said to the virus. "You fought pretty well, huh?" Nitro thought for a moment, then made a request to his operator. "Chris, send me a few more Bugfrags. I think our little buddy here has earned a treat."
"That's kind of weird, but alright," Chris said. The fragments appeared in Nitro's hand, and he layed them down in front of the Spikey's face.
"You know, this might be good practice for when I get the SP," Nitro said. "Rewarding it when it does well, keeping it healthy..."
"You're making it sound like she's gonna be a pet," Chris said. "Most SPs are pretty much Navis themselves."
"'She?'" Nitro asked. "You're going to make it a girl?"
"Well, yeah," Chris replied. "Is that a problem?"
"Well, I was kind of hoping that it'd be a guy," Nitro replied. "You know, someone to pal around with and junk."
"Nitro, you only really know guys," Chris said.
"Not true!" Nitro spat. "There was that Goyan-"
"She tried to kill you and Tranum for fun."

"I guess you're right," Nitro straightened up. He then produced the map, and traced the marked route with his finger. "Welp, I guess we should get moving," Nitro said. After making sure the Spikey was awake, Nitro began following the route, keeping an eye out for any waiting white navis.

"That's kind of weird, but alright," Chris said. The fragments appeared in Nitro's hand, and he layed them down in front of the Spikey's face.
"You know, this might be good practice for when I get the SP," Nitro said. "Rewarding it when it does well, keeping it healthy..."
"You're making it sound like she's gonna be a pet," Chris said. "Most SPs are pretty much Navis themselves."
"'She?'" Nitro asked. "You're going to make it a girl?"
"Well, yeah," Chris replied. "Is that a problem?"
"Well, I was kind of hoping that it'd be a guy," Nitro replied. "You know, someone to pal around with and junk."
"Nitro, you only really know guys," Chris said.
"Not true!" Nitro spat. "There was that Goyan-"
"She tried to kill you and Tranum for fun."
"Okay, but there's that Pulsebat Rider-"
"She, too, tried to, and almost did, kill you, and she also lives underground."
"Okay, but what about those NetMafia girls-"
"One's got a lesbian crush on you, and you met all of them after a onsen trip gone sour. Face it Nitro, the only girls you've met have been pretty much by accident, and you have a tendancy to act like a stammering idiot whenever you're not fighting them. "I guess you're right," Nitro straightened up. He then produced the map, and traced the marked route with his finger. "Welp, I guess we should get moving," Nitro said. After making sure the Spikey was awake, Nitro began following the route, keeping an eye out for any waiting white navis.
