A Test of a Woman's Manhood

"TwinFang!" shouted Anyis assertively right at the beginning of the match.

Mill jumped at the noise, but quickly turned that twitchy reflex into something productive as he grabbed the requested Battlechip and slotted it into his PET. He was curious about the request, naturally, but he had learned by now to ask later, since starting a battle with Anyis's impatience in the middle of a real battle was not a good idea. "Need anything else?" asked Mill so he could get whatever he needed to do done.

"Whatever you feel like." answered Anyis apathetically as she materialized a pair of spikes, one in each hand, with handles for her to grip. Without much hesitation, she clenched the spike in her right hand and flung it as a thrown weapon, sending the needle-like fang towards POM, partly as a straight-up damage attempt, but otherwise meant as a diversion to keep the giant pudding monster's attention away from MeleeMan, who was charging him... it... whatever... that thing while spouting video game cliches or some nonsense like that. Anyis had bigger plans for the other fang in her left hand, though. Chamo... Lizardguy just annoyed her. She felt he needed to go down by her hand. And, well, that's what she was about to try.

Just like with the other, Anyis flung her arm forward, treating the fang as a thrown weapon. The key difference here is that she didn't let go. Normally, that'd be stupid. In the weightlessness of space... Well, not so much, actually. The force of her throwing motion coupled with the Battlechip's natural attack propulsion met no resistance from the would-be anchor of Anyis's body, and just kept moving forward towards Chamo with her in tow.

"What the...?" muttered Mill as he watched his Navi get carried off by a single Battlechip. "... Ah... I'd hadn't even thought about taking advantage of the space arena's lack of gravity." said Mill, prior to biting his lip in acknowledgment that he pretty much just admitted that he got trumped by his own Navi in strategy, which was supposed to be the Operator's job. In an effort to downplay his screw-up, Mill slotted in another chip of his own accord for Anyis to use.

"Hyaaaaaaaaah!" yelled Anyis in an oddly feminine battlecry as the TwinFang that was leading her across the battlefield was about to reach Chamo. At the same time, the BigHammer Mill gave her materialized in her right hand. Despite its inherent Big-ness, the weapon was abnormally easy to wield for Anyis, thanks in large part once again to their galactic fighting venue. She let go of the TwinFang just as she thought it had the best chance to hit Chamo, then proceeded to swing the BigHammer all the way around her body before swinging it at the lizard Navi's side in a brutal roundhouse.

"One more!" shouted Anyis as a Cannon materialzed in one of her now empty hands. Mill realized as his Navi attacked that she really couldn't get past the likelihood of Chamo's Undershirt program without another attack, so he gave her the Cannon, and Anyis's attack rhythm didn't even miss a beat. She grabbed the underside of the gun for stability as she locked onto Chamo and fired, trying to send him flying into Multiple. "Eat that, sneaky Lizardguy!" taunted Anyis proudly as her gun dissolved into little bits of data.

"Sneaky? Is that why you went after him? How do you even know if he's sneaky?" asked Mill incredulously.

"He's a lizard! They're all slippery and slimy and sneaky like that..." muttered Anyis as she stuck her tongue in disgust.

"... Whatever. Here's the IronShield. Since this weightlessness seems to be helping other things, maybe you'll be able to get some extra usefulness out of this too." explained Mill as he transferred one last piece of chip data.

"Good point." agreed Anyis as she clutched the shield's handle in one hand and lifted it to a defensive stance in front of her with relative ease. With her defenses set, she looked around to check on the status of her allies. There was Seraphim over there, and fighting the pudding monster was... Seraphim? No, wait, that was MeleeMan... who looked like Seraphim all of a sudden? Anyis blinked, looked away, did a double take, realized there were effectively two Seraphims, and then muttered a single word under her breath: "****".

Actions:
1. TwinFang1 (70 damage) @ POM
2. RIDE THE FANG - TwinFang1-assisted Movement to Chamo's position, 70 damage to Chamo
3. BigHammer1 (160 damage, Impact, Break) @ Chamo
4. Cannon (40 damage, Knockback) @ Chamo, propel him towards Multiple
5. Equip IronShield1 (2-Hit Shield)
Seraphim looked about, measuring his opponents briefly before thinking about how he would make his move. He felt like he could use some sort of cover for a slight moment before shaking his head and glancing at his allies. These looked like the minibosses, to be completely honest. There was even a amoeba-like blob. Perfect before-boss material. If he were to leave that one to his allies, they would most likely take it down with ease, or delay it for him to take down the final boss. He shrugged. It could be the final boss for all he knew, with the other two being its minions. With the hooded navi, it seemed he was the mysterious type of character who stood in the background but was more or less either completely incompetent in a fight or the final boss. Either way he doubted they'd be fighting in another match after this. Maybe the game designer had gotten bored with the material and had thrown them all in to fight? That couldn't be right, the lizardman navi was essentially one of the first opponents you'd face in any game. Seraphim shrugged.

"Well, looks like you've got some annoying foes this time around. Let's see. You can use electricity without fear of hitting your allies this time around, which makes for a lot more usage. Your fire skills were kind of not usable in the water as well. Either way, I'm thankful I don't need to micromanage to suit that every need. Makes my job a lot more easy." Erin sighed contentedly, stretching her arms. "It doesn't matter if they can move any-which way as long as you can hit them, so let's bring the mountain to you, Seraphim."

"Alright, then." Seraphim responded, taking up his gun-mesh-sword, which he spun stylishly before brandishing out at his opponents. He made sure to add a bit of simulated wind to the fringes of his coat, causing it to flutter a bit in the wind. "wait- if there is no gravity here--" The navi reasoned, "Then hitting them with something that would normally just knock them back..."

"Would instead send them flying!" Erin exclaimed before glancing at her allies and lightly coughing to mute the expression of excitement. "Good idea, Seraphim. I'll send you the wind summon skill, but you should probably draw your target to you first before using it. Using the magnet would probably just cause them to stay locked in place, or even worse, let them move freely."

"You're right, those skills would not go well in combination," Seraphim muttered reflectively as he set his first attack into motion, creating a field of linking energy between himself and POM, noticing the fact that Meleeman was heading for POM as well, and shifting his position slightly so that he would attract POM toward Meleeman as well as himself. Hopefully Meleeman would be able to get in a few punches along the way.

"Looks like Meleeman has grasped the essence of how to fight, too!" Seraphim spoke with enthusiasm as he raised his weapon in an impromptu salute, inadvertently jerking the energy line he had set up, which if connected, would be pulling the blobbish POM thing toward him.

"Whoops," Seraphim spoke sheepishly, as the flow of electricity heightened and the pull became more intense. "Well, guess that works." Pulling the weapon back even further, Seraphim lashed out with a lancing stab, both piercing and pushing, aiming to send the enemy back toward Meleeman for another beatific movement of 'Face meet Fist in C Minor'.

"Don't use too much of your combo bar!" The video-game oriented navi shouted to his partner in crime as he continued his assault by sending out a quick two shots at the other enemies, creating floating spheres of electricity that darted to and fro, drifting toward the enemy. "That should let me fill my own gauge for a special attack next turn-," Seraphim cut off the sentence, grinning as he kept what he was planning somewhat more of a secret before realizing he still hadn't set up the final bit of the combo he was currently working on.

"Well, there's the triggers, just uh, set them up, Seraphim." Erin said awkwardly, slotting the remainder of the chips that the plan required for the turn.

Seraphim nodded, loading the twin shells and firing them off, causing spheres to develop and begin to create gale force winds in the arena ahead of him. "That should do it," the navi's words were quiet, but his face was lit up with a grin. Plagued by various attacks while getting blown about in zero gravity- this wouldn't be pleasant for them. Feeling like a master strategist, Seraphim chuckled and gave his allies a thumbs up.

Not really warming up to the flying bit, everyone just gets a headstart at stuff they're doing.

Meleeman accesses the power of his closest ally and blabbers about video game jargon while he and Seraphim move in on POM while Anyis flies off with a TwinFang toward Chamo, her other one hitting POM before Meleeman accesses his GutPunch and swings at POM, but the yellow blob opens a gaping hole in his stomach, Melee's attack passing right through, before Seraphim draws POM in with the Magbolt and Rageclaw throws POM back at Meleeman, who fists him again, before getting a faceful of spikes from the barely surviving blob.

Anyis rams into Chamo, who immediately, and awkwardly, falls backward before he could get hit with Anyis' BigHammer, and simply disappears from sight, the fang quickly dislodged as Anyis fires a Cannon blindly at her Invisible opponent before raising up her Ironshield while Chamo relocates elsewhere.

Seraphim sends a Thunder at Multiple, who opens up his cloak to reveal a conglomerate of machine-gun barrels as he fires randomly at everybody, hitting Meleeman once after he moved away from one shot, depleting some of Anyis' shield, and hitting Seraphim once in the forehead. He also manages to get rid of the Thunder with a Shotgun blast or something.

Grinning, the self-proclaimed main character launches both his Winds forward, creating some kind of ridiculous space-storm that Multiple finds hard to move freely in.

Chamo at this time, has moved behind the group, unnoticed and readies.... something.

POM grunts as he feels his systems slowing down...

Seraphim whirled around, his cloak-coat moving with him as he rubbed the small bruise on his forehead where the machinegun shot had hit. Cracking his neck, he stared at Chamo for an instant before realizing what he wanted to do here. He was going to take him down quickly and simply so that he couldn't harm his allies.

"You're obviously making some kind of charged attack, and I won't let you!" Seraphim shouted, loading an interrupt into his gun-sword-mesh as the shells in the chambers fell out. The navi flipped it back into the weapon, locking it closed as he pulled the trigger, all in one smooth movement. The 'bang' echoed in the empty space, but Seraphim was already moving forward, his weapon's blade charging with electric current and beginning to create a link between himself and Chamo. "You may have ranks in stealth, but I've got some tricks you won't be able to avoid," the navi grinned, as he thrusted forward with the 'bayonet' on the sword-mesh-gun, keeping up the electric current as he began to pull his oversized blade from his inventory. Brandishing the weapon, he swung it across with a grunt, if he could help it, this nuisance would not escape him in this few seconds. And hopefully these few seconds would be enough to end it.

"Alright, Seraphim. Finish up the electric combo with an attack on all of them," Erin spoke with constrained excitement in her voice as she took out the chip she wanted to use for the quick attack on poor Chamo's sensibilities, along with the other two. Hopefully it would help them out in their endeavors as well as completing the circuit of foes, so to speak.

"Right! You rogues may be sneaky, but once someone notices you, you're dead meat. It's better to multiclass, so next level, you should try out some barbarian for hit points or check out cleric for some useful spells. You can't sneak attack while someone is stabbing you!" Seraphim finished his lecture with a quick stab, causing the area to erupt with an electric pulse of energy which ricocheted off the empty space, heading for all the foes. With a blast, it struck the oversized blade, channeling the voltage toward his foe. "Now just to go with a bit of fire to finish you guys off-" the protagonist winked at his allies, authorizing them to go ahead with their strategy as he added a bit of his own flames to the mix.

Pointing his weapon up, he fired, sending a blast of what looked somewhat like molten lava into the air, which separated and fired toward the three designated targets. His wide grin was only matched by the explosions he was sure would be soon to follow as he waited for his allies to follow up, prepping himself to dodge.

MeleeMan shrugged off the damage he'd taken, despite having gained several gaping wounds from POM's spikes. "Buh! Damn spikey blob thing. Still, I'd say we've got a significant advantage now. I think our meter's filled up enough to call-in a team attack, wouldn't you, Anyis?" MeleeMan asked his partner, crossing his arms and smiling in anticipation.

Rania realized that this terminology was likely to throw off her allies, so she figured she ought to explain. Turning to Mill, she leaned on the table with one arm and gestured to emphasize her points. "I know this is going to sound silly, because it does to me too, but I think MeleeMan has some kind of team strategy he'd like to execute with Anyis. He's going to be talking kind of funny, though, so I'll try to translate it as best as I can. We'll decide whether to act on it or not after that," she elaborated, managing to set her self-consciousness aside for at least a little while.

"So you know what that big blob makes me think of? Peanut butter and jelly. Or maybe honey, if that's your thing," he said with a smirk, thumbing in POM's general direction. "Here's what we're going to do... We each get a rockcube ready to start. You do have enough energy to summon a cube, don't you? The attacks won't work unless you input that command first," he explained, looking serious.

"He uh... Wants you to slot in a rockcube," the operator translated, ignoring the babble about inputing commands and gathering energy.

Making a jabbing motion with his fist, MeleeMan illustrated the next simple step. "So once you've got the rockcube, hit it with a strong forward. If you kick or weak jab, I don't think it'll have the right impact," he continued. "We're going to set it up so that we sandwich that big spikey counterwhore in between our cubes for massive damage. No matter how tough he is, that should do him in."

Rania nodded, although the plan did not sound nearly as technical as she was hoping for. "Uh, I think you get the idea," she finished, turning back to her PET with embarrassment. She slotted in the rockcube quickly to supplement MeleeMan's "strategy," despite how juvenile it seemed.

"Man, that squish is gonna be awesome. I haven't done a good fatality like this in forever," he laughed, waiting for Anyis to align herself properly to make the shot. Loosening up his muscles, he summoned the rockcube in front of himself and reassured that he had the gutspunch still active and ready. "I guess taking advantage of items and environment in a situation like this is a little underhanded, but we're the good guys! If the game gives them to us then we might as well use them," he reaffirmed, lining up the shot.

"Badaboosh!" With a loud cry, MeleeMan slammed his steel fist into the rockcube's flat surface, sending the object sailing in the direction of his enemy. "Now, it's time for part 2."

The intense eyebrows of MeleeMan's operator grew more intense. He hadn't mentioned a part 2 before. "What's the second part of your strategy, MeleeMan?" she asked suspiciously, raising one of her rather intense eyebrows inquisitively.

"Now we use what's left of our fist power-ups to shave that big guy's life bar down a few notches," he responded, grinning and pounding his fists together. "Don't go for shots, Anyis! We gotta close in!" he called out to his ally, using his Seraphim suit to propel him forwards towards MultiMan. "Heh heh... abilities like this make my melee fighting skills unparalleled!"

"You need another weapon?" Rania asked, not liking the idea of MeleeMan suddenly being up in the face of Andante's largely unknown opponent.

"No thanks!" he responded, revving up to use the rest of his gutspunch. "Take this! Uraaah!" Roaring, he brought his fist in and out, peppering his opponent with minor punches before bringing his fist back for one supercharged finishing blow, nearly breaking the circuits in his mock-Seraphim battery-charged gauntlets. He hoped that his assault would be joined by Anyis soon into its execution. "Fighting with strong allies... All of this punching... floating around in free space like this... I think this must be what heaven feels like," he thought to himself, although that train of thought might leave him if the plan backfired and he ended up on the other side of his opponents' fists.

"... MeleeMan has a plan?" asked Mill and Anyis in unison as Anyis's repair program unconsciously began work on MeleeMan. Mill was a little surprised, but was curious anyway. Anyis, on the other hand, was verging on disbelief that MeleeMan, of all people, could go above the "punch it until it's dead" strategy. If he, of all Navis, could think up a clever plan, what would everyone else be capable of...? As Anyis grapped with her insecurities over MeleeMan potentially opening Pandora's Box, Mill actually had the foresight to listen to Rania's explanation.

"So just crush POM between two Rockcubes? That could work. He probably can't dodge it like MeleeMan's last attack." agreed Mill, who opted to just gloss over Meleephim's game babble. He shuffled through his chip folder for a moment before finding his Rockcube and slotting into the PET.

The object in question materialized in the open space next to Anyis, who was caught surprised as her mind was still trying to figure out the long-term dangers of all this. She looked at the Rockcube, then over to MeleeMan's own Rockcube, and then back to hers. "... Ah."

"You do know what to do, right...?" asked Mill of his Navi who clearly hadn't paid attention.

"Yeah yeah, make pudding monster sandwich. I don't really need to do that myself. Boogeyman!" shouted Anyis, spawning her incorporeal servant behind the Rockcube. "You. Rockcube. Pudding monster. Push. Got it?" ordered Anyis, pointing to related subjects where appropriate. Boogeyman just stared blankly at the Rockcube in front of him with his single eye. "Good." said Anyis, translating her phantom's muteness as obedience. She looked at MeleeMan for how to synch up the shot, and gave the order: "Splatter him, Boogeyman!"

Boogeyman slammed his palms against the large object, sending it flying like a bullet through the frictionless environment towards POM. With his orders fulfilled, Boogeyman vanished as Anyis listened to the rest of MeleeMan's plan.

"..."

"What is it, Anyis?" asked Mill of his Navi.

"... And to think I was actually worried for a moment." sighed Anyis as she covered her face with her hand. "Just give me my ColdPunch. God forbid I don't meet MeleeMan's punching expectations."

"You make it sound like you don't enjoy punching things." responded Mill sarcastically as he slotted the chip in.

"... Fine, you win. I'll just go vent my frustrations on the hooded guy now." grumbled Anyis as Mill's remark hit home. With the lack of resistance in this space arena, Anyis rocketed forward, going fast enough to get around Multiple and attack him from the opposite side of MeleeMan. She came to a sudden halt behind her target and immediately began throwing punches at her target's backside. "For every part of his spine I break, I expect you to crush part of his face, MeleeMan!" shouted Anyis at her ally, invigorating both herself and him to beat this enigmatic jerk to a pulp.

As POM and Multiple were trapped in the Windstorm, Seraphim turned around and fired a RollArrow at Chamo, making him lose his focus and take some damage. Attempting another action, the Chameleon panicked as he found out his chip usage was a bit blocked.

Meleeman and Anyis decided to sandwich POM between two Rockcubes... and did so successfully, making yellow goo fly everywhere in the process as POM EJO'D.

While Meleeman and Anyis rushed to pincer Multiple, Seraphim supercharged his Magbolts and dragged Chamo over to the other side while the lizard shot its tongue at the self-proclaimed main character, only to have it oddly sliced away by Seraphim's hairblade.

Trapped in the windstorm, Multiple could do nothing but watch as his companion was flung at him and beaten on all sides by punches and.... cold punches, before being assaulted by flames and electricity.

All in all, it didn't take very long.

Warping out of the arena, Team Andante was greeted by applause and confetti in the staging area while OdorMan started bumbling dangerously close to them before leading them away to center stage.

"Ahem! The winner of the ONB beta test tournament is Team Andante! Give 'em a round of applause folks!" OdorMan called, an invisible audience, or maybe it was just a sound effect, applauded. Also, more confetti rained down. Greaaaat.

"I will now present the winners with their prizes for achieving success in the tournament!" OdorMan proclaimed, handing each warrior a bag containing the prize.

"That's all folks! Thanks for watching!" OdorMan chuckled as he rose out of the arena and the lights dimmed.

Well, that was that.

MeleeMan powered down his SeraphimCross, returning to his original form. He judged from Rania's expression that the rewards had been plentiful; he was happy for the victory, but felt vaguely cheated in some way. "Bah. I'll bet Anyis got to fight much stronger opponents in her tournament. Probably got bigger prize money too..." he mumbled, rubbing his chin.

The operator felt a tinge of disappointment at her navi's attitude. She was almost sure that Anyis and he had buddied up enough now so that he should have stopped feeling sour, but apparently the end of the tournament had revived his jealousy. She was almost hoping a cross would show up, but it seemed now that it was still in the distance. "Well, why don't you go make the mission report, MeleeMan? We'll decide what to do from the outside here while you're gone," she said with a smile.

Nodding in affirmation, MeleeMan headed for the gate from Hades Net to Internet City. "Now, to collect on that reward," he smiled, musing over what kind of support program Rania might allow him.

((Moving to Internet City))
"Ha, hooded guy didn't even get a last word. That'll show him for acting so arrogant." laughed Anyis as the entirety of Team Outcast collapsed in a flurry of offense from her, MeleeMan, and Seraphim. "Wish I could've gotten revenge on lizard guy for running away before, but I guess it's okay if Seraphim took that one." At the moment, all Anyis could do was revel in her favorite kind of victory: a swift and crushing defeat of everyone who stood in her way. "On the whole, though, if this is what'll become of the ONB tournament, they might just want to cancel it in the future. These guys were nothing compared to everyone in the first tournament. Right, Mill?"

"Huh? Yeah, yeah, of course..." answered Mill with no recognition of what he was even responding to. His mind was completely and totally blown by the payout that had just transferred to his PET. Note only had a respectable amount of zenny been transferred to his account, Mill now found himself pulling a new chip out of his PET, and wow... what a chip. A GolemHit2! Mill had never gotten a second tier chip before, let alone one this strong... or sentimental. Damnit. Seeing "golem" was making him depressed.

"Hey, this was a mission, right?" asked Anyis suddenly.

"Ah, yeah, it was." answered Mill, having been jerked out of his thoughts.

"Then that should mean there's a secondary reward from the commission?" queried the Navi.

"You're right... although I have no idea what it would be." sighed Mill as he realized he was totally oblivious to the occasion. "We just ended up going along with this on the spur of the moment."

"Well, we aren't going to find out what we earned by just sitting here." said Anyis assertively.

"Yeah, that's true. I think Rania's filing the mission report already, so whatever we just earned, we'll find out soon." agreed the Operator as he returned his Navi to his PET.

(Jack Out)
Seraphim nodded to himself, speaking to the air about possible new tactics and maneuvers.

He seemed so engrossed that he didn't notice when the others jacked out, and looked up in a slightly vaguely surprised manner, blinking his eyes. "Oh, I guess I shouldn't have taken so long. They must have already moved to another area. Oh well, some of the tactics I'd like to try involve something that could be dangerous to allies. As such- I must do it alone." The last bit was said dramatically, but was somewhat ruined by Erin rolling her eyes before jacking Seraphim out.

[Jack Out]
