Voltman in Netfrica

Voltman landed neatly after his leap through the portal, and looked around to see a blazing data savanna. With a grin, he began to run, looking for opponents.

-BATTLE 1, GO!-
Voltman looked at the new arrivals with interest. Such a small group, to face him? He was almost disappointed. Still, it meant that he could make their deletion that much faster. He took in the data from the battle, displaying HP counts above the enemies' heads, and analyzing the terrain. The HP counts soon revealed themselves to be fairly low, the terrain deep enough grass for fire to be a viable strategy. Checking his new arsenal of powers and battlechips, Voltman formulated a strategy, sending the chip requests to Shigeru. The chips soon came, along with a small note.
I've installed a small healing program, just so you know. But still, be careful, okay? It can't repair major injuries.

With that knowledge in mind, Voltman planned his route of attack. Five enemies... and all easily within the realm of single hit deletion. Deciding on the order of attack, Voltman sped towards his first victims. The programmed sun beat down upon the battlefield as Voltman sped across it, the dry grass easily gripping the soles of his feet. His hand disappeared back into his wrist as the hilt of a sword attached itself, a pulse of electricity soon lining the blade with power. The energy spread, covering Voltman in a thin barrier. Bringing the sword back as he neared his first targets, the Spidy viruses, Voltman lined up the two so he could attempt to hit them both with the wide swing. Wary of the web spitting rears of the viruses, he opted for a frontal assault, charging head-on at the spiderlike viruses. Bringing his sword back for a strike, Voltman stopped his mad charge by flipping into the air, planting his heels in the ground as he landed and swinging the Elecsword with all the energy he could muster for a single blow. A few quick slashes followed, white light flashing from the energy blade as he attacked.

Leaping backwards and surveying the field, an image leapt, unbidden, to his thoughts. A small enemy, blade gleaming in the light, letting loose a flurry of skilled blows with his legendary sword. Voltman looked around the grassy field, seeing the grove that tall grass had been created around the enemies. In the charred remains of a grass field, the enemy summoned a small blade of intense flame. "I take weapons from the environment and forge another from my burning soul! Let us bring an end to this meaningful battle, warrior! Voltman looked at the three remaining enemies. Yes, let's. The Elecsword deactivated, Voltman's hand reappearing in a small flash of white light. A small hilt appeared, and the electric navi grabbed it quickly, just as a blade of fire shot out, catching the light and scorching the grass in the immediate area with the explosion it created. Charging at the Skarab viruses, Voltman gripped the knife tightly in his hand, the fire fueled by his own innate power. Reaching his targets, Voltman approached the first with a slide, leaping to the side of the enemy as he slashed across the bones with the blade. The fire leapt downwards with his slash, the grass below the enemy igniting quickly in the dry area of the net. The second suffered a similar fate, the very ground beneath its feet bursting into flame as Voltman let loose a powerful slash across its spine. Ha! Take that!

If all had worked, which Voltman hoped it had, the only enemy left was the Spikey. But as he had learned in the past, from battling these viruses, they were some of the faster buggers out there. Alright, then... I just have to be faster! Tapping into his new signature attack programs, Voltman located the file labeled Hyperspeed and opened it. Starting to run, Voltman's legs started to blur as they moved faster and faster, and eventually his entire form began to disappear entirely as he moved too fast for any eye to follow. A few silent moments passed on the battlefield, before a glint of red appeared behind the Spikey. A slash shaped path of fire traced itself through the air, Voltman shimmering back into the visible spectrum with the massive slash at the enemy. Flipping to the side, he stabbed several times at the side of the wolf virus, the grass beneath it lighting to accompany his attack.

Moving back to his original position after the attack, Voltman shifted the knife to his other hand and prepared two orbs of energy, circling above his palm, ready to fly at whomever dared to live through his assault.

-BATTLE 2, GO!-
Voltman saw the new group, as well as the terrain beneath their feet, well before the battle routine initialized. Scanning the ground where he'd be fighting, he saw the normal grass, and occasionally a single panel that had managed to escape the mad rampage of the local wildlife. What might complicate the battle, however, was the sand that was scattered around. It wasn't deep, but it was deep enough. The kind of sand that would seem completely innocent until it was closing in around your foot and an enemy was suddenly much closer than you wanted them to be... But that was merely an annoyance. The majority of the terrain wouldn't hinder his movement, so he'd just have to stay away from the sand. Unable to pick out the viruses from his vantage point, he called up his operator's holoscreen. Alright, I see them, but I can't make them out. Any help? Shigeru panned out his view of Netfrica net, and once the viruses were in sight, locked on and zoomed in. A bit more than our last battle, I'd say. Seven, sorry, Eight EX-Class viruses. Spikeys, and two others I don't think we've faced before. Shigeru logged onto the virus database, but could only find names to accompany the images. All right, we've got... three Swordy-family viruses, and two Genin-family viruses. Voltman hadn't heard of the second. He said so, and Shigeru ran a quick search, coming up with nothing. He zoomed in on the viruses, instead. Not much to distinguish them. They're holding something, but I can't make out what it is, and there aren't any other visible signs of attack. You'll have to be careful, then. Sending battlechips now.

Voltman felt the selection of battlechips download, analyzing the components of said chips. He shouldn't have been surprised, but it was still a bit of a letdown seeing the same selection come through for the umpteenth time: swords, swords, swords. Voltman dismissed the chips, putting them away for later use, as he downloaded a few choice chips of his own. Shigeru was about to question, but didn't. What would be the point? Oh, sure, his navi was skilled with swords, but he had to learn to use other battlechips sometime, didn't he? And it was with this in mind that Voltman had set the chips aside. But enough thinking, it was time to fight. Voltman charged headlong into the fray, battlechips activating as he prepared to unleash his first assault. Voltman quickly pulled a thin film of electricity from the floor, fashioning it into a second layer of near-invisible armor. His emblem began to glow as it gathered excess energy from Voltman's systems, and with his defenses established, his strategy laid out, and his battlechips at the ready, Voltman's charge ended and his attack commenced. Charging at the Swordies, Voltman's right hand began to glow blue. The blue energies began to gather at the center of his hand, forming into a single massive orb of azure power, which Voltman fired at the third Swordy with considerable force. It sliced through the air in a manner not usually associated with spherical objects, not slowing in the slightest but, paradoxically, speeding up without being affected by anything else. It crashed into the Swordy's location, throwing up the traditional explosion and accompanying cloud of obscuring dust, or in this case, sand. Voltman ignored it, continuing on his path of destruction.

Aiming his palm at the second enemy, Voltman's emblem suddenly glowed much brighter than it had been, the energy charging speeding up dramatically. Sparks began to pull in from the floor beneath Voltman's feet, and the emblem soon began to shoot out sparks on its own, streams of energy from Voltman's arms and legs feeding it enough power to null the loss. Summoning a spear, he twirled it around several times, before swinging it in a massive arc, feeding into it the electricity he had charged. The electricity swept out behind the head of the spear, following its path as it carved a path in the air and swept towards its target, the second Swordy. A blast of blinding electricity exploded as the spear reached what Voltman hoped was his target. Electric Blaze! The glow of his emblem subsided, only a fraction of charged energy remaining for use after the attack. Siphoning that energy into the next battlechip, Voltman activated the Powerbolt. Nothing happened, for a moment, before a beam of blue light erupted beneath the final Swordy virus, completely obscuring it from view. But there were enemies, left, and Voltman knew exactly how to deal with them.
Run, and pray to god they had horrible aim.

Activating the Hyperspeed signature, Voltman sped towards the virus in a blur, disappearing only moments before he would have collided with it. The shadow of his movement, the currents of the air, passed over the virus, but nothing more befell the Genin. Suddenly, the grass beneath its feet began to smoke, and out of nowhere a fist of flame suddenly sprang into being, delivering a punishing uppercut and lighting the grass completely. Voltman appeared soon after he delivered the punch, his gauntleted hand smoking from the heat, and looked around at the viruses. IF he was right, and that was a big IF, then he was doing fairly well. Those Swordies were nasty looking things, and I don't particularly want to have to fight another swordsman. I'd win, sure, but the actual fighting might cause a bit more harm than I'd want. At least this way, I'm out of harm, right? Then, seeing his position directly behind viruses with unknown attacks and a trio of Spikeys advancing, he revised his opinion. Then again... maybe harm isn't so far away after all. Swallowing nervously, Voltman gathered the last bit of energy he had and summoned it into a spear, which he then threw top-speed at the lead Spikey. It might deter them, at the very least. Or it might piss them off.
God, he hoped it was the former.

No sooner does the battle begin when BLARGH! the swordy is blown away. Its neighbor encountered a similar fate as Volt fries it using his special technique. The last swordy gets hit by a similar column of power... but remains alive. Could it be the sole survior, perhaps? That idea is quickly forgotten as it too is slain by a weaker, but still fatal, strike. Then the genin is burned alive as the navi swoops in and delivers a firey punch. The second one attacks but is thrown off by his previous sudden movement. However, one of the spikeys manages to lock onto him and deliver a blast to his body, but his barrier protects Volt, leaving just the grass harmed.

Voltman couldn't help letting out a grin as the first enemy fell, the Powerblast leaving no trace of it behind. Charging up energy into his spear, Voltman whipped it around in a massive arc before letting the electricity loose, blowing the second enemy completely away as well. Small pockets of smoking data were all that were left. Sending the pulse of data for the Powerbolt into the ground, he merely watched the enemy stand there, well, float there, as the bolt of energy flew from the ground in a massive pillar of blue light. As the energy faded, the enemy was left with a minimal amount of HP. Merely walking up to it, he gathered a small amount of his charged energy and let it fly. The small blast finished the enemy off, its form becoming surrounded by a cube which fragmented into a three by three collection of blocks, taking the parts of the enemy with them. Heh. Almost thought I let you go, eh? Voltman knocked aside one of the floating cubes, sending it away from the area where the Swordy had been before it fragmented. With three of the enemies defeated, he began to run. Speeding up, the air itself seemed to deter him, threatening to tear him apart and burn what was left to cinders, all from mere friction and air resistance. Still, he pushed forwards. The air started to go black, even light slowing in relativity to Voltman. The pressure was building... when all at once, it disappeared. The area was bathed in a white-blue light, the enemies frozen in place. He stopped running, knowing that he had already disappeared from the eyes of his combatants. Moving around the battlefield, he took care to not touch any of the enemies, lest they jar him back into normal time. Choosing his target, Voltman moved behind the Genin, his gauntlet beginning to smoke...

Shigeru was watching the progression of the battle with interest. The new upgrades he had given Voltman were working very well, but as of yet he hadn't needed the recovery move. It's a pity, too... I had wanted to see if it worked in action. Glancing at the feed from the battle, and from Voltman's systems, he saw decreased and increased activity, respectively. Hyperspeed, then. It had been one of those late night strokes of inspiration that had created that particular signature attack. He had yet to tell Voltman that the running beforehand wasn't needed to upgrade his processing speed to the point where he could move at invisible speeds, but come on, didn't it look all the more impressive for it? A spark of data caught his attention, in Voltman's systems. Ah, he's activated a battlechip, then. Which one, I wonder...? As a trail of flame and smoke began to appear behind the Genin, Shigeru checked the list of battlechips downloaded and reached the logical conclusion. Firehit, then. I wonder how the enemies will react. As it turned out, they didn't. Voltman let loose with a flaming uppercut without interruption, the Genin quickly burning into nonexistence as the grass, and its data, lit with an intake of air. Shigeru sighed and closed his eyes, sitting back on the Scilab bench and slotting in the Areagrab. Voltman can take care of the rest...

Alright! Voltman cried out as his attack connected, the enemy flying off with the force of the blow. Both enemy and Firehit dissipated into the air as Voltman turned to his opponents, watching for attacks. The Genin that was left fired some attack, but his disappearing and reappearing had thrown it off enough for whatever it had been to miss. The Spikeys were the only remaining enemies. Diverting the energy from his emblem to the middle of his palm, he looked downwards briefly to see the energy gathering for his attack. Not briefly enough, it seemed. Looking back up, he saw a fireball screaming towards him. Raising his arms in front of him, crossed into an x shape, he took the blow in his barrier. The attack wasn't without repercussions, however, as Voltman flew backwards, crashing into the ground a small distance behind where he had been. The grass was completely eradicated from the heat. Brushing off some of the dirt from his armor, he stood and summoned another barrier. Alright, you want a fight? You've got one! Sword time! The Aquasword shot out of Voltman's arm, and a charred sheath appeared at his waist, a small blackened handle the only indication of the weapon within. Voltman checked the data sent to him, recognizing the Areagrab's trademark signature. With barely a glance, he started his charge.

Voltman's emblem began to glow as it gathered data once more, the occasional spark the only indication that anything was happening. But the occasional spark was fairly hard to notice, with the blade of water and the smoking sheath at Voltman's disposal taking priority. With a flash of light, Voltman began to speed up further, and disappeared. He found himself in the null-time once again, the drops of water that fell from the Aquasword remaining suspended in the air once they fell far enough away from Voltman. He chose his target quickly, the Spikeys, and readied his Aquasword. Moving near the viruses, to a position where he could strike all three, he deactivated the Areagrab. Time unfroze, the air regained movement, and the enemies may have been suddenly, horribly aware of Voltman within melee range. And if the small crunch of grass behind them wasn't enough to attract their attention, the massive cry that soon followed as he swung the sword almost certainly would have. Waves of icy water flew from the Aquasword as Voltman struck several times, the small flames from his earlier Firehit immediately doused. He let loose blow after blow, the waves of water becoming a veritable torrent with the frequency of the attacks. Then, leaping above the enemies, Voltman let loose a wide-range slash across the backs of the Spikeys, before rolling as he landed and leaping to the side, directly towards the Genin.

He dismissed the Aquasword as he ran, drawing the Fireknife from its sheath. The flames leapt up as the blade became free of the sheath, spilling harmlessly against Voltman's armor. Spinning the blade in his hand, not an easy task while running, Voltman prepared for his blow by crouching low while he ran. The air causing him less trouble than it had, now that he presented a smaller target, he sped up further, the flames trailing through the grass and beginning to liquefy the sand as he passed over. Finally, reaching his enemy, Voltman put on an extra burst of speed and leapt into the air, bringing the knife around him in a wide arc before it neared the Genin. The aftermath of his swing connected with the grass beneath the enemy, a blaze quickly springing to life as Voltman leapt away from the enemy. The knife disappeared, and the same hilt that had held the Aquasword reappeared upon his wrist once more. But instead of an icy blade, one shining with electricity emerged from it instead. Voltman drew the energy he had collected into his other palm, looking around the field. He dared the enemies to survive, dared them to challenge him once more. If they did, he'd be ready. If they didn't, he'd challenge them. One way or another, Voltman was going to be the only one surviving the battle routine. Spare electricity began to pool beneath his armor, ready to spring to work if needed...

Voltman wipes the Spikeys out with little resistance, they did try to dodge, but the electric swordsman's speed and ferocity proves too much for them. He then charges at the lone Genin virus, brandishing his dinky dagger of flame, and swipes at the Genin, who instantly vanishes and reappears behind Voltman, swinging its blades rapidly in a circular motion, dealing five attacks, one blocked by the barrier, one avoided, to the navi. Voltman then owns it with his Elecsword and passive sig.

Battle 3 Start
Viruses. Quite a few of them, by the looks of it, Voltman commented as the next crowd of enemies came into view. Mostly familiar faces... all but two. And in this case, that was all but literal. The two new enemies were holding massive metal masks in front of their faces, advancing slowly with the rest of his opponents. He glanced over the HP count swiftly, grimacing when he saw that the new opponents were the bulkiest of the enemies in the health category, too. He'd have to come up with a plan, and fast. Those mask viruses don't look all that friendly... but full metal masks aren't exactly going to be the easiest things to get past. What do you think? Shigeru waited a moment before responding. I think... that we should show them that you're not one to be stopped by masks of steel. Drillarm, Powerbolt, Powerblast, triple slot in! At his command, a drill appeared where Voltman's right hand used to be, slowly beginning to rotate, and speeding to a nondescript blur of spinning steel. The high pitched whine of the drill was the only sound among the shuffling of the viruses towards their target, before sparks began to fly from the terrain to bounce over Voltman's armor, forming a mesh of lightning that soon solidified to form a thin film of electricity. Voltman took a step, but faltered as the barrier flickered off for a moment, before coming back. Confused, he looked at the barrier surrounding his hands, arms, and torso. Finding nothing wrong, he took another step. This time, the barrier fizzled in and out like a TV with bad reception, before fading from view entirely. Voltman looked around at the enemies, his eyes showing fear even through the visor. He took a step back, two, before his foot unexpectedly encountered a rock, and he began to tilt backwards. He flailed wildly, before stopping the random movements and putting a leg backwards, catching himself in a runners crouch. Shigeru let out a sigh of relief, realizing that it had all just been an act, as Voltman's barrier reappeared and he leapt forward, disappearing from view as he left the range of visible motion.

Voltman had disappeared, leaving only the rapidly fading sound of the drill in his absence. Reveling in the moment, he sped unseen through the enemy ranks, finding the optimum angle to strike. He identified his targets among the crowd, the two metal-masked enemies, and positioned himself near one so the other was directly on the other side, or as close as he could guess. Shifting out of high gear, back into the visible spectrum, the whine of the drill signaled his return with an ill omen for the two masked viruses. Alright, let's see just how tough those masks are! Intending to find out, Voltman thrust the drill at the first enemy. Voltman felt resistance to the drill, but through the sparks emanating from the tip of the drill, only to be drawn into his emblem a moment later, Voltman wasn't able to see if it was his enemy or the floor that he had just torn a hole in. With a sudden crack, the drill broke through whatever it had been striking, to encounter a second object behind the first. Again, Voltman could not tell whether or not he had succeeded, but he kept his energy focused on the drill, sparks continuing to flow into the rapidly brighter glowing emblem on his chest. Finally, as it slowed to a halt, Voltman leapt backwards, dual busters appearing on his wrists.

You've weakened them, Voltman! Don't let up! Came Shigeru's encouragement through the holoscreen, as Voltman aimed the buster on his right hand at the stronger enemy. A ball of blue energy began to coalesce at the end of the barrel, lines of data swirling into it as it gained power. With a roar, Voltman let loose a blast from the depths of the cannon, which shot into the center of the orb and propelled it forward at high speed. Gaining a barely visible blue aura of rapidly shedding data as it flew, the Powerblast caused several small cracks of thunder in its wake as it rent the very air in front of it with the force of its energy. Flying the last several feet, the Powerblast erupted into a massive explosion, encompassing a decent area and, from what could be seen, the stronger metal-masked foe. A small group of calculations appeared on Voltman's visor, culminating in a single line of text. Subject: Puffball Virus B; Predicted Hit Points Remaining: 10 Voltman sighed, raising his (now buster free) right hand. A burst of energy suddenly released itself from his emblem, shooting down his arm and flying from his fingers in a gray bolt of energy that sped into the center of the rubble-strewn area of his last attack, aimed at where he believed the enemy to be.

Now, to take care of the other annoyance... Voltman muttered, as a blue light began to gather in his final active weapon. Charging the weapon, keeping it trained on the Puffball, Voltman waited for the small signal on his visor that the weapon was fully charged, before swinging his arm around, putting the opening of the barrel flat on the ground, and firing. The ground trembled, just as a pillar of blue light erupted feet from where it had first sunk into the ground. It reached past 20 feet high in a matter of moments, before sinking into the terrain as quickly as it had come. A second pillar of light, closer to the enemy this time. The eruptions increased in frequency and speed, zigzagging across the terrain and leaving yard-wide holes in the terrain, which quickly patched themselves together. Finally, a final pillar disappeared, and for a moment silence ruled the battlefield once more. Shigeru surveyed the area curiously. Where'd it go? Surely that wasn't it, right? Voltman didn't turn his gaze, but replied simply. Wait for it... Suddenly, a final shake of the terrain and the largest bolt of all shot out of the ground where the Puffball had been only a second ago. Realizing that the enemies were about to attack, Voltman sent out a wave of energy under his as-of-yet untouched armor, electricity pooling to replace damaged areas of the suit if it were harmed. Finding a small vestige of energy left within the siphoned remains of his earlier attack, he stood still for a moment before flinging his left arm out, pointing at the Volgear virus, just as a second gray bolt shot from his outstretched hand. If all went well, that should be the end of the Puffball viruses. Voltman remarked, turning his head to face the screen displaying his operator. Yeah. Two down, Eight to go. Voltman's eyes narrowed at Shigeru's comment, but he said nothing, concentrating on the enemies.

After activating his defensive abilities, Voltman rushes up to the two Puffballs and skewers not just one but both of them with his large drill. He then slams them both with his Power chips to wipe them out. He also delivers a slight shock to the mean looking EX virus. This prompts it to fires a tower of flames into the navi, though his barrier takes the hit. One of the stoves also hit him with a shower of fire, though luckily Voltman stayed off the grass. Then, one of the Magtects hold out an appendage and drags Voltman forward. However, before he can strike Voltman, the navi, calling on a bit of speed from his previous move, manages to slide to the side, out of the path of the hand. This move, however, does plant him in the same field as some of the viruses.

Shigeru... something's up. I think something with that Mental guy may have damaged my systems. We shouldn't continue.
Shigeru nodded, slotting in an Escape subchip. And with a small hole in the boundaries of the battle routine appearing for but a second, Voltman jacked out, disappearing from view and leaving the viruses alone among the plains.
Voltman runs away using the almighty power of the Escape subchip.

NO CONTEST.
