As Runeknight and Ashlynn wander further into the network, chattering about runes and magic techniques, viruses appear! True to his word, they seem formidable.

Runeknight gazed across the battlefield at the group of viruses waiting for him and his apprentice. He had seen most of the viruses before, but the fiery canister was new to him. Still, by its very appearance he could discern a weakness. However, this group held more and varied viruses that posed a threat to himself and to Ashlynn.
"Be wary," Runeknight cautioned. "Many of these creatures have offenses that span a great range."
"Yes Master Alistair." Ashlynn's voice was solemn as she took in the advice.
"First I shall use some elemental strikes to take advantage of the battlefield terrain and our enemies' weaknesses. Once their ranks have been thinned, we shall move in for the kill."
"Alright then," Zan spoke up. "In that case, I'm sending in the PhoenixShots, the AreaGrab and something new."
"Yes Sire."
Runeknight could already feel the familiar surge of energy and he channeled the waves of power into his hands, causing scarlet flames to sprout up along the length of the ebony armor. The flames swirled around his arms, coalescing in the palm of each hand. Runeknight muttered a quick spell and then hurled the twin spheres of flame toward his opponents. The spheres spiraled around each other before sprouting wings and soaring across the battlefield. Two high pitched shrieks filled the air and the fiery balls exploded into majestic phoenixes.
One of the flaming birds of prey flapped its wings and soared toward the three ninjas. It shrieked once more and dived down in an attempt to engulf the trio of viruses. Flames trailed behind the phoenix, setting the grass alight and sparking an inferno. The second bird dived into the kilby, threatening to raze the bamboo and consume everything in its path.
"And now to get in close," Runeknight spoke.
A jet of cobalt flames shot up around the Navi, obscuring him from view. The fires died down, leaving nothing in place where Runeknight had been standing.
"Master?" Ashlynn cried. "Where did you go? What...Oh!"
Ashlynn watched as Runeknight appeared behind one of the fiery viruses, the one that resembled a can that was on fire. The armored Navi threw his right arm off to his side, summoning up the final surge of energy that Zanallen had sent him. A leather bound hilt materialized in his hand, the steel crossbar coated in a layer of ice and a foot long shard of sharp ice extended from the hilt. Runeknight gripped the hilt tightly before plunging it toward the fiery virus. Hopefully the icy knife would cut through the virus' defenses and leave it out in the cold.
Runeknight pivoted away from the CanDevil, his feet turning a quick pirouette as he moved toward the flaming seahorse that was the Dragrin. Runeknight tightened his grip on the dagger as he positioned himself to thrust the icicle deep into the center of the beast. Runeknight lunged forward, holding the knife as an extension of his arm, hoping to pierce the burning heart of the dragon-esque creature.

Runeknight lets loose a powerful blast of fire at the two ninja enemies, which disappear through the onslaught of flames. Satisfied, the cobalt crusader fires his next blast, but feels sharp blades crash into his back, slashing through his armor! He teleports just in time, managing to dodge the second and third volleys of the (apparently, alive) enemies. The lack of a nearby cry alerts him that Ashlynn was fortunate enough to dodge.
Undeterred, Runeknight uses a small blade of ice to make swift work of the two fire enemies.

"Bah," Runeknight cursed. "It seems that these ninjas are quicker than one would have thought."
"Runeknight," Zan advised. "Keep an eye out for counterstrikes. Those viruses are adept with the blade and will strike out at you if they are able."
"As you say, Sire."
The knight twirled the icicle turned dagger in his hand before advancing on the ninjas once more. He was wary of the viruses' skill with their blades and moved cautiously, prepared to dodge away if need be. He glanced quickly at Ashlynn, worried that the ninja would attack her once again. She seemed to understand his movements and prepared herself to leap away from any flying daggers.
The first of the green clad ninja was to Runeknight's left and so he dashed forward, intent on cutting down the virus before it could counter. The icy blade slashed through the air in a diagonal arch, moving high to low and trailing a faint sprinkling of snow. Runeknight followed the blade, strafing to the left of the ninja in order to avoid the expectant hail of kunai. The frost blade moved in again as Runeknight thrust the blade forward, attempting to bite deep into his opponent.
Runeknight moved away toward the second ninja, clutching the dagger tightly in his hand. Runeknight strafed left and right as he advanced, striving to keep himself away from the virus' multiple blades. Runeknight sliced with the dagger, a horizonal slash that would cut across the genin's throat. Runeknight pivoted to his right, intent on avoiding any possible counterattack. His icy dagger came back in a backhanded chop that would slice deep into the genin.

Runeknight and his companion come accross a grassy clearing. They also come face to face with two boomer, each one just a few feet off, staring each of them down. A short distance behind them, spread out evenly every few feet in a row, are three Totems looking.... quiet. In the very back some Needlers stand around, twitching anxiously.
