Machman MkII's tragic past

((Continued from Mazer's House))

Machman passes through the portal connecting ACDC net with Mazer's CompSpace. Machman comes to a stop as a window opens in front of him, showing Mazer's face.

I sort of remember the spot... but I'm not too sure.

[Don't worry, Mach. I recorded the location the day [i]it[/i] happened, just in case if we needed to go back. Thank goodness I did. Correct course 25degrees right. It's a pretty far distance, so expect some viral engagements before we get there.]

Understood. Launching now.

Machman's four wings start to arc upwards and out sharply, like metal snakes preparing to strike. A high-pitched whine can be heard from each of the wings before being drowned out by the deep roar of his thrusters igniting, cyan flame and energy bursting forth. Machman's feet stay firmly planted to the ground as the plumes of bright cyan flames become larger. All four thrusters then angle back in a mechanical jerk, directing all four thruster nozzles straight back. The sudden burst of thrust causes Machman to accelerate like a gunshot, feet still skimming the net surface and spewing sparks like a rooster-tail. Machman's legs swing back and he gets an aerodynamically-boosted gain in speed, and tears across the Network.

As Machman zooms across the Net, confronting his inner ghosts, he finds he's been followed by a few real ones! A quartet of Spookies start flanking him, making a V-formation of the whole group!

Machman continues his flight at high speed, then looks to his left and right. Several Spooky viruses have given chase and blocked off his route. Machman's thrusters reverse and blast at full power, bringing Machman to a stop. He stops in mid air, hands to his sides and looking forward in a cold glare.

[Cannon and Shotgun chips uploaded. Use of thrust laser approved. Engage the enemy!]

Immediately after hearing Mazer's command, Machman's arms whip out to either side with weapons at the ready. His wings move from his back, pair up, and lock onto two Spookys in seconds. Machman activated both triggers and discharges both weapons at the Spookys floating on his immediate left and right. Machman's face is lit up by the muzzle flashes of both weapons, and his face is temporarily obscured by the smoke emitted by the cannon and shotgun. The wind blows the already dissipating smoke away, showing no change in Machman's expression. By the time his arms have changed back to default configuration, both pairs of wings have fully charged plasma "globs" in between the wings.

The plasma erupts from the wings, creating two ruby-red beams several feet thick and covering the area with an almost blinding red light. Machman's wings heat up rapidly until they glow white with heat. The two plasma beams lose power and shrink down until they are nothing but two broken trails of glowing bits of data. Machman's wings separate and snap back into position, and his two arms return to his sides. His eyes haven't moved an inch from dead center, he didn't need to look around to target these close proximity viruses.

Machman's eyes glance down to some zenny data on the floor below. He then accelerates and dives towards the data and scooping it up on the way. As the data is uploaded to the PET, Machman corrects his heading and resumes course.

Machman picks up speed and continues to cruise towards the place where it all began... at least for him.

Virus Attack!

Five enemies stand in Machman's path. Two are small, yellow, and unthreatening. The other three, though, float back and forth through the air, preparing to ram the navi.

Battle 2 Begin
Machman spots several viruses on the horizon, directly in his path.

Viruses identified. Count 5. Permission to engage?

Machman continues on a straight course directly towards the viruses. Machman raises both arms straight out in front as his forearms and hands fragment and reform into a pair of red, vent covered busters. Two cross-hairs appear in his immediate line of sight and he eases both busters on to a respective Metool. The targeting reticules float over the viruses, cross-hairs shifting to indicate a lock. The barrel of each buster eminates a warm orange light as the projectile perched inside is heated and charged.

Machman wastes no time and fires both busters and spewing two fire-imbued rounds towards the two Metools. Smoke expelled from the busters streak behind Machman as he brings his arm towards his chest, barrels facing each other. The two Heatshots explode, creating two large fireballs out ahead. It takes a few moments for the heat wave to reach Machman, he barely notices it as he pumps heat out of each buster and collecting it in a concentrated orb in front of his chest. The superheated air ignites, creating a white-hot ball of fire. Machman then thrusts both buster'd arms forward, unleashing the restrained thermal energy in a wide wall of flame towards the Fishy viruses.

The fiery wall, looking like a large flaming bird, continues forward as Machman trails behind. Machman's left hand returns to default configuration as his right buster lengthens and contorts into a large flame-thrower, complete with fuel tank and igniter flame. The fuel is pumped through the tubes from the tank and out of the barrel to be ignited by the small flame and transformed into a literal fountain of heat and fire. Machman slowly sweeps his flamethrower from right to left, spraying the immediate area in front with flame.

By now, the area in front of Machman is completely bathed in flame and pumping smoke in a huge black pillar. Machman climbs slightly to avoid the hottest part of the flames and boosts through it, punching a large hole in the smoke and flame.

Machman fires a pair of Heatshots, which take out both Mets and also clip one of the Fishy. He then hits two of the fishy with the Phoenixshot, taking out the previously damaged one. Machman's last attack strikes both remaining virii, leaving just one alive. This one then proceeds to ram him.

Machman gets rammed by a virus on his way past, sending a jolt of pain down his shoulder. He shrugs off the pain and starts to turn back towards the virus.

Machman continues through his turn as Mazer activates the two Recover10 chips with a green glow. The pain in Machman's shoulder quickly fades, just in time for Machman's sword to appear near his hand. He grabs the covered hilt, activates the blade, and prepares to strike as the sleek cyan energy blade grows from the top of the hilt. He closes in on the Fishy virus and delivers a horizontal slash as he passes by. He quickly reverses direction with a split-s maneuver by doing a half loop upwards and a 180 degree aileron roll to level out. He flips the blade upside down and prepares to drop on the Fishy virus and deal a skewering downward stab.

Machman drops to the ground and lands between the two sparking halves of the previously sliced Fishy virus. Machman holsters his sword as the two pieces crumble into bits of data. Machman picks up both a packet of zenny data and a battlechip file and uploads them to the PET. He faces back to the correct heading, and calmly boosts forward and picks up speed.

I can feel it... Something is drawing me to it. My body is restless, my mind racing. I want to find the answer!

Ah! Perhaps the toxic fumes released by the viruses, burned by the gloves of their allies, was what gave our hero this feeling? Is this, like... the virus version of getting high? Woah... trippy... Is that why that Metool looks so freaked out?

-BATTLE 3! FIGHT!-
Machman notices a large group of viruses in the horizon, surrounded by a light haze.

Viruses identified, count 8. Permission to engage?

[PhoenixShot, BubbleStar1, Boomerang1, and Counter1 chips uploaded. Engage!]

Machman slows his approach and lines up with the three Mushy viruses ahead. The jewels on his hands begin to glow brightly, and the light starts to spread over both of his hands entirely. His hands start to hemorrhage heat and he thrusts both arms forward to release the pent-up energy into a large flaming wave at high speed. The wall of flame rockets towards the viruses, leaving a trail of burnt ground and heat behind.

Machman boosts to the side as his right hand changes into a large, blue, orb-like buster covered with holes. A shiny transparent film is drawn over the barrel of the buster as a small internal fan spins on. As the bubble begins to form, more ring-like parts move into position, churning out smaller bubbles which float into the rapidly forming main bubble. The main bubble is filled, closed off, and ready to fire. Machman lines up on the group of Champu viruses and fires the bubble. The bubble explodes and sprays the area with a quick spritz of water and cage-like bubbles.

Machman touches down as his right hand changes to its default setting. His hand opens and grasps the green boomerang that appeared above his palm. He aims towards the Champu viruses and throws hard. The green boomerang blurs into a disk as it buzzes on its path towards the viruses. It passes through the group, banks up for its turn, and dives back through the viral mob. The boomerang rushes back to Machman, bearing down on his position. Machman's right arm flashes yellow and expands into a large GutFist. The boomerang, aiming right at Machman's head, is caught by his bulky GutFist and crushed like it was made of tin foil. The boomerang explodes into green bits of data and dissipates.

Machman brings his large yellow arm and fist back, shifting his left foot forward and left shoulder facing the viruses. Machman raises his open left hand to waist level, and dares the Metool or Champu to strike. If he times it right, he could knock the more impatient virus into the other, deleting them both or injuring one as the other takes the full brunt of the GutFist.

Machman's starting move manages to burn up two of the three Mushy. Unfortunately, his next attack isnt so successful. The bubbles prove slow so only one Champu, in the center, is caught. His following boomerrang then strikes down the trapped virus and a neighbor. A champu then strikes Machman but gets punched in return. Then the little met hits the navi with a shockwave.

Machman takes a step back from being nicked by the shockwave. In return, he pulls up a red buster and aims towards the lone Shrubby virus. He fires off a fire-charged projectile in its direction and starts to dash towards the remaining viruses. Machman's right hand begins to return to default configuration as his MachBlade materializes in his left hand.

He continues his thruster assisted dash towards the Champu virus, shifting left and right in a zig-zag path. He crosses in front of the virus, delivering a diagonal slash as he dashes by. He lets go of his sword, turns around, and catches the sword with his right hand. He then boosts forward towards the Metool and delivers a quick thrust straight ahead. Machman then withdraws his sword and jumps back a few feet. Mazer activates one of his Recovery10 chips on Machman, giving him a feeling of vigor and healthiness.

Machaman burns down the mushroom before heading toward the other viruses. The Champu teleports in front of him, and both deliver their respective blows to each other.
Undeterred, Machman charges forward, slashing at the Metool, who ducks under its helmet at the last moment, making Machman fall back.
He heals himself. :'D

Machman's sword glances off the armored helmet of the Metool with a loud clang. Machman takes a step back and collects himself.

Let's try out that new Shockwave chip. That should do the trick.

[Alright. I'll heal you up first.]

Machman takes a moment to feel the reinvigorating energy created by the Recovery10 chip, then looks back to the Metool in front of him. Machman raises his right foot, his knee up to his chest, and stomps down as hard as he can. Machman's boot thruster fires full blast, rocking the immediate area and sending a shockwave hurtling towards the lone Metool. Machman then crouches down and whips both MachBusters towards the Metool, waiting for the opportunity to fire.
