Anyis.EXE VS Voulge.EXE

As the Navis jack in, their Net Operators are shown a 3-D model of the arena their Navis will be fighting in with various features labeled and highlighted as the presentation runs. At the end of the presentation, the environmental statistics for this arena are displayed for reference.

Quote (Crumble Hill)

A ring of hard bedrock, 5 feet from side to side, encapsulates something not so hard: Crumble Hill. This precariously assembled mound of pebbles and rocks is stacked a tremendous 30 feet high with a colossal 100 foot diameter to match. Its massive size makes the hill's incline fairly shallow, around 15 degrees, but scaling it is no less daunting since the ground under your feet could give way with any step. Should you fall and be swallowed up by Crumble Hill, you'll soon be surprised to discover that the hill's core is completely hollow. Inside lies nothing but a flat plane that reaches all 100 feet from one side of Crumble Hill's walls to the other. Should the hole you fell through reassemble before you get out, you'll have to figure a way to dig yourself out.

It didn't take long for Crumble Hill's designers to realize scaling it unassisted was insane, and they remedied the situation thusly: 4 sturdy stone bridges arch up and over the sides of the hill, and come to a nexus right at its peak. There, where all 4 bridges meet, lies the crown of Crumble Hill: the Holy panel. It stands there alone in its majesty as it waits for combatants to bask in its glory, and is perhaps what allows the hollow hill it presides over to stand and regenerate so quickly. Outside Crumble Hill lies a lovely green landscape and blue, cloudless sky, but any who would try to reach for it would discover that tournament officials have placed an invisible area around Crumble Hill's circumference, making the otherwise far more appealing field mere eye candy to competitors. Entrants are initially set on the outer bedrock ring, with each fighter facing an opposite bridge.

Terrain: 38% Normal (Bridges, Arena Border, Inside Crumble Hill), 61% Cracked (Hill), 1% Holy (Bridge Nexus)
Special Effect: Re-Crumble (Cracked Terrain regenerates after only 1 turn)

Objects:

Arena Barrier (Immortal, Stationary, Invisible)
There are absolutely no signs that tell you this barrier is in place, other than the bleeding nose you might get from running into it.

Satellite Camera x3 (10 HP, Moving, Flying)
Cameras designed by SciLabs to record the events of the ONB Tournament for the entertainment of spectators. They are compact and fast, but fragile, although they were made with an expectation that some would get destroyed in the cross-fire. There are 3 cameras on-field at any one time, and a new one will be substituted if any get destroyed (at each modding).

Once the information is relayed to the Operators, they are given a few moments to strategize with their Navis before the match begins...
Mill was using the first terminal in the last round, but since the officials condenses all the round 2 matches into one group, he had to look around a bit before finding the fifth terminal that he was supposed to use. Anyis made touchdown in the arena without any problems, only to be taken aback by the scale of the new battlefield. "Whoa, that's a big hill..." she muttered atonishedly, only to be further surprised by the open, blue sky above her. "This place is a lot different than the last arena... Mill, you have any good information on this thing yet?"

Just like last time, Mill was provided with an information pack on the layout of where they'd be fighting. Thankfully, he had a bit more time to read it through since he wasn't the last to show up. "Well, one thing that really jumps out at me is that the hill in front of you is about as strong as a piece of glass."

Sure enough, Anyis took a closer look and discovered a myriad of cracks running through the rocks that comprised the hill. "What the... Why would they put something so fragile in a battlefield?" Anyis asked in confusion.

Mill kept reading, and soon enough came upon an answer. "According to this, the hill will actually reassemble itself every so often. And, on top of that, it's actually hollow inside." the Operator recited off the page.

Anyis looked around the hill once more, taking in its size before realizing, "If something this big is empty inside... Wouldn't that make for a pretty good second arena in here?"

"I guess so... Among other things, too. With the bridges and the Holy panel up top as well, we really need to watch out for any subtleties that might mess us up." replied Mill. "Since your opponent isn't here yet, maybe you should just walk around and get a feel for the place."

Anyis nodded and began climbing the bridge in front of her to the top of the hill, where she'd get a better vantage point of the whole field, and probably see when her opponent showed up...
Marius walked into the arena, where both the spectators and his opponent was waiting him. Looking around and facing Mill on the other side, Marius couldn't help but to let out a nervous smile "Are you anxious as I am? Voulge?" The operator took his PET and plugged into his terminal, which sent Voulge on top of the bridge just in front of him. "No...I am excited, though."

Voulge and Ignis began ascending up to the top of the hill, seeing if his opponent was waiting for him. While he was doing so, Ignis began his usual pouting, but this was different. "Hey, you do know that our ass will be handed this round right? We're going to fight against a water navi with a water folder! We stand no chance!" The spearman simply ignored his SP's rational claim and continued walking.

"I'm being dead serious here! Let's just give up so we don't have to face humil-" Voulge gave a sharp glare to his SP, making the chatterbox stop right at his track. "We are at a disadvantage, Marius clearly knows that he may lose this round, yet,why did we show up?" Ignis thought about it, but couldn't think up a proper answer. "All that Honor and pride crap you always shout?"

Voulge let out a small, but rare smile on his face as he turned to Ignis. "It's so we can have a good time."

======
READY (?)
======
While standing atop the bridges, Anyis saw Voulge jack in... with an SP in tow. "Damn, an SP... A 2-on-1 match really minimizes my elemental advantage..." grumbled Anyis at this new turn of events. The little red ball of flame didn't look like a serious threat, but Anyis learned a long, long time ago that appearances mean nothing on the Net.

"He has an SP..." muttered Mill, echoing Anyis's own thoughts. Expecting something more, Anyis waited for Mill to speak again, but... nope, nothing.

"Hey!" the female Navi shouted, "Wake up Mill!"

The sudden outburst snapped Mill out of his thoughts and made him jump a little. "Oh, sorry. Anyway, let's just focus on fighting Voulge. He may have a numbers advantage, but we still have the element advantage. If we can just make him fall, we won't have to worry about his SP."

"Works for me." nodded Anyis. Glancing to see Voulge playing down a nervous attack his SP was having, Anyis chose to leave them alone and return to her designated starting point for the match.

(Ready)
A green orb shot down and levitated a fair amount above the Holy Panel of Crumble Hill, summoning a variant number of cameras as a computer-programmed voice rang throughout the stadium.

"THE OPEN NETBATTLE TOURNAMENT, ROUND 2, WITH THE MATCH BETWEEN ANYIS.EXE AND VOULGE.EXE SHALL COMMENCE SHORTLY. COMBATANTS, TO YOUR POSITIONS." the voice boomed. Satisfied that the navis had indeed taken their starting positions, continued on.

"THE RULES ARE THE SAME AS THE LAST ROUND. TOURNAMENT-ISSUED FOLDERS ONLY AND THE VICTOR GOES TO THE LAST ONE STANDING. READY?" the voice inquired, and upon seeing both the navis ready, set out another booming start sound.

"BEGIN!"

"Don't waste a second! Initiate routine 'Gamma'!" Marius yelled as he began punching in buttons after buttons into his PET, sending his planned routine to his Navi and the SP.

As soon as the plan was complete and sent, Marius, Voulge, and even Ignis began to move in a perfectly set pattern without a question. Voulge lifted his Lancea up into the sky, transforming the weapon into a silvery GunLance in a blink of an eye; complete with a small, yet durable shield on his left arm. As soon as he opened the gun chamber, Marius pulled out multiple chips from the tournament chip folder and slipped it in one by one, starting with the Heatshot. A large incendiary bullet formed on the navi's hand and Ignis began to transfer some of its flames into it, making the bullet nearly transparent due to the SP's shadowy powers. Voulge loaded the bullet as soon as Ignis was finished and snapped the chamber straight back with a simple whip of his wrist. "First phase Complete. Commencing Combat phase."

"DAMN STRAIGHT! ... Wait,I have to do what!? Hell no, I'm not gonna do that!" Ignis began snapping at Marius, most likely due to the plan he gave out. "No way that I'm going to let you use me as a meat shield!" Marius only chuckled as Ignis made his remark, "I'll treat you with all the BugFrag I could find for you. Make you stronger than you already are. How about that?" Even before Ignis could give a proper answer, Voulge suddenly grabbed the navi from the top and literally stuck him to his back like a magnet. "Be quiet and continue with the plan."

Voulge lifted the Gunlance with both his hands like it was a rifle and looked right through the iron sight on top of the weapon. The navi needed to be patient if his shot was to shoot straight through the middle, but he also needed to hurry before Anyis moves away from her original position! With that in mind, he hastily pulled the trigger, firing the altered Heatshot. It was a strange sight to see as the fireball itself was nearly transparent as well and it easily phased through the bridge, hills, and anything that was in its way between it and Anyis. Both Marius and Voulge knew that the chance of the Heatshot hitting the target was slim, but seeing a fireball appearing out of thin air, maybe that would shake the navi a bit.

When the attack was finished, Voulge piled the Avaria-Lancea straight into the ground, creating a large *CLANK* noise as the bayonet stuck to the ground. Voulge stuck his right arm up and a large wooden log began to materialize piece by piece. When the process was finished, the navi lifted the log as far as he could, like what he would do with a javelin, and hurled it in a horizontal fashion. If Anyis was planning to attack face forward, the RingLog wouldn't be able to stop her, but maybe inflict some damage or two before reaching him.

"Combat phase complete. Begi- "GAHHH, LET ME GO!! I DON'T WANNA DIE FOR YOU! I WANNA KILL YOU, YOU KNOW THAT?! REVENGE!!"

Voulge, like always, ignored whatever was coming out of Ignis' mouth and continued to follow Marius' routine plan. He clapped both his hands into a prayer like pose and a barrier shrouded over the navi in a red sphere. Now having three layers of defense: The Aspis, the barrier, and Ignis as the meat shield, the navi was slightly eased from his fear. With these defenses, Anyis' aqua attacks would have trouble reaching to Voulge's vulnerable body.

Now the climax of Marius' plan was about to bloom. Voulge reached to his Lancea and plucked it out from the ground with ease, loading it with a sky blue ammunition right after. Rather than pointing the barrel towards his opponent, he instead pointed it straight bottom. The navi leaped up as far as he could and fired the AirShot straight to the ground, propelling the navi all the way up into the sky. There was a chance of him smashing right against the invisible barrier over the arena, but Voulge would still be able to see the whole place in a single glimpse and locate exactly where Anyis stood!

As the navi fell from the sky to the ground, the Lancea exploded in a burst of fire, transforming it from a gunlance into a golden trident with a set of metal fishnet. The blades of the trident sparked with violent fires that constantly spewed embers when anything came into contact, creating a trail of fire behind Voulge as he was falling down. Just before Voulge was about to crash onto the ground, he vanished with a puff of embers and teleported, not behind, but besides Anyis!! Marius had a thought of how the operators would usually cast the shield in front or behind the navi, but protecting their sides wasn't the usual protocol. If Anyis had barriers prepared, then the second hit would stun the navi and leave her completely unprotected!

Without a second to lose, Voulge firmly gripped onto his trident and attacked Anyis with a powerful thrust. If the attack was a success, the trident wouldn't inflict any sort of damage, but temporarily paralyze the navi in place. Next, Voulge hurled the fishnet with his one hand only, trying to wrap it around or tangle the navi. Either way, the net was made entirely out of flexible metal that could nearly overweight a Cragger virus, so, it was a guarantee that Anyis would have difficult time getting herself out of it. As soon as the attacks was finished, the spear reverted back to its original form to summon a petit fireball, treating any wounds Voulge sustained.

"Alright Mill, let's go all out! I'm not going to let this match be as slow as the last one!" shouted Anyis, feeling the adrenaline pumping with the start of the battle.

As soon as his Navi said all out, dread began filling Mill's mind at the sheer number of ridiculous ideas Anyis was getting, and that dread quickly evolved into horror as he realized that Anyis was going to jump in regardless of what he did. So, with a mind full of worry, Mill resigned himself to be an accomplice in insanity. And what could possibly be the king of dangerous idea? "I can't believe I'm doing this..." sighed Mill as he grabbed 3 chips out of his folder and slotted them quickly into his PET. "Alright, you want to strike fast, and now you have the means to do it. Have fun." sighed Mill in frustration as he had far too many doubts about this.

"There you go! See, things move a lot faster if we just agree on this stuff!" laughed Anyis as the chip data streamed into her body, causing her to realize just what Mill's idea was. "Ooh, now that's bold. I didn't expect something like this from you." As she was thoroughly impressed with Mill's move for once, Anyis didn't want to let it go to waste, so she cut the talk there and readied her onslaught. She had drawn her gauntlets with the start of the battle, but that would be short-lived for one of them as the left gauntlet completely disassembled itself, only to immediately reassemble into the new form of a silver musket with a topaz embedded in the grip. Her last match had proven how stubborn these gauntlets were with on-the-fly transformations, so Anyis just nipped that issue in the bud by changing the entire gauntlet into a gun to perform best with the ranged chips Mill had provided. There was one non-attack chip in the bunch, but that was just about to see its use as Anyis's body blinked out of existence as the AreaGrab's effect swallowed her whole. Neither competitor could see the other, but Anyis knew Voulge's starting point, and it was her best guess to think not many people would move out of the spot so quickly in the match...

... And a good guess it was. Anyis reappeared clear across the arena to the image of Voulge's back as he juggled between bolstering his defenses and throwing off some precautionary attacks. Thankfully, he didn't seem to be firing behind him, but... Oh hell. That crass thought ran through Anyis's head as she realized that the fireball floating behind Voulge wasn't part of him, but his SP, and it was guarding his back. This was definitely the part where "strike fast" change from preference to necessity, as just one second spared by Anyis would give Ignis the time to alert Voulge to her presence. So, in as much haste as she could manage, Anyis pointed her gun forward and pulled the trigger and released the Bubbler data stored in the barrel. Water immediately began gushing out of the weapon and straight towards Ignis, and, by luck of the draw on Mill's part, Voulge as the Bubbler would strike a second time, with extra force courtesy of the close range, after hitting its mark.

Since gunshots were typically very good attention-getters, Anyis gave up on using the element of surprise to make another attack. Instead, she chose something with a bit more of a long term effect: possessing Voulge. Anyis established her River link as effortlessly as always, but she was rushing like never before to grab some sort of ghost data to infect Voulge with. She was normally more picky, especially when she was finding something to possess herself with, but with time not on her side in the slightest, Anyis absorbed the first bunch of data she could get ahold of and quickly shot it back out of her hand and at Voulge. If she managed a good aim during her haste, Voulge would be feeling one hell of a lot of mental friction as his inner self would grapple with the ghost in him for control of his body. Amusingly, Anyis managed to grab the partial ghost of an Aqua Navi. Regardless of the outcome of the match, Anyis would come to wonder if Voulge would ever step foot in Sharo after all this ice and water he'd deal with here.

Her surprise assault was at its final stages, and Anyis was well aware that welcomes were easily overstayed, so she loaded up her musket with the last chip. Surprisingly, Anyis was caught off guard for just a moment as Voulge... did the exact same thing. Just as her opponent did, Anyis took a pot-shot at the ground with her AirShot, with the only noticable difference being the temperature of the air being fired as Anyis's ice coding had leaked again and dropped the windy chip to sub-zero temperatures. The end would be the same regardless of the means, however, as the resulting recoil sent Anyis rocketing into the air after Voulge. As she reached maximum altitude, she shouted to him, "Hey! It's not very gentlemanly to leave a lady behind like that!" Anyis just couldn't resist teasing her opponent, despite the uncertainty of this airborne encounter...

The battle begun, and both fighters pulled out their best first shots. Voulge strapped Ignis onto his back as a meatshield and put up another shield to block against frontal assaults. Preparations set, heatshot imbued with Phasing, Voulge fired.

The flaming blast warped through Crumble Hill and reached the other end, but Anyis had already left.

To behind Voulge's location.

The knight, still cautious, threw over a Ringlog, but it failed to hit anything as Anyis was behind him. The spiritualist sent a rushing shot of water at Voulge, imbued with the properties of the Melee Class, so that even the barrier Voulge put up could not withstand the overwhelming might of the Bubbler. His familiar was gone in a flash, and he took some heavy damage too, his armor taking a bit of force for him.

Anyis threw a ghost at Voulge, but it missed. Both combatants then shot into the air.

Taking notice of Anyis position, Voulge initiated a signature program, teleporting to Anyis' side in an instant, and striking his trident twice at his foe, the first attack missing, but the other one managing to hit, injecting a paralyzing energy into the aqua navi, debilitating her body a bit.

Both contestants landed on a bridge, Anyis, sort of on her back, legs in front, while Voulge was crouching down, spear in hand, facing Anyis' legs. Flames came to patch up Voulge's wounds, and he gained some valuable insight from the technique he just pulled.

Well... she honestly hadn't expected Voulge to come teleporting up after her. As for what Voulge accomplished, Anyis wasn't entirely sure. She didn't seem to be hurt anywhere... Come to think of it, she didn't even feel a thing from that rough fall. That wasn't right... Damnit. swore Anyis within her mind as she came to the realization that she was completely numb from the neck down. Her body wasn't quite flat on its back, as her elbows had managed to find themselves propped up before the numbness set it, but her legs ended up spread out at odd angles, them having absorbed most of the energy from her landing. It was a good thing Anyis had her bodysuit on under her robe, because the position she had landed in was... comprimising, to say the least. And to make matters worse, Voulge had managed to land himself right at her feet, with lance wielded towards... Whoa whoa whoa, stop.

"Hey! Where the hell do you think you're pointing that thing?!" shouted Anyis at the top of her lungs, loud enough to make anyone unprepared jump out of their skin. "Who do you think you are?! You look like a knight, but all I see is some freakish pervert! This match is being televised, you know! If you pull any stupid crap in front of these cameras, the whole world will see it! Your life will be completely ruined! You think you can handle that?! I don't think you can! So if you have any sense at all, you'd best put that lance down and step back, or else! Why, if I-" And so she continued, on and on and on...

And all the while Mill rubbed his temples, thoroughly embarassed by his Navi's ridiculous outburst. He'd probably have to apologize to Marius after the match because of this, and at this rate the officials could possibly call him on delay of game for how much Anyis was going on. Considering the fact that she was stunned made Mill unable to even guess why she was making so much noise, since he thought the idea would be to keep attention away from yourself, not draw it in. It was almost as if Anyis was trying to keep ahold of Voulge's atten-

... Oh. That probably was what she was trying to do. If she could stall Voulge for long enough with these accusations, the stun on Anyis might wear off before anything bad comes of it. That said, Mill couldn't be absolutely sure whether or not Anyis was acting or not. If she was, then Mill was genuinely impressed by her emotional range. If not... Well, he supposed that even Anyis had some things she was shy about. Either way, the ends justified the means, and Mill planned to take advantage of the time Anyis was trying to kill. He grabbed two specific chips out of his folder and slotted them into the PET, then waited to see what would unfold.

Anyis was indeed acting (to a degree), and after venting whatever anger she did have, the fog in her mind cleared up enough so that she could make a guess on Mill's plan from the chips he had sent. The first was obvious enough, since he had a habit of using it in a certain way. The other Anyis was a bit more unsure on how to use to the fullest, but she'd cross that bridge when she came to it. Regardless, Anyis could feel the effect of Voulge's stun wearing off, which meant it was time for action.

The Cannon Mill used loaded into the musket still in Anyis's hand, and she promptly pointed the muzzle at the ground and fired, forcing herself flying up into the air with the recoil from the blast. The propulsion wasn't nearly the same as the Airshot's, so while she couldn't go as high as before, Anyis still went up enough to go flying straight over where Voulge was standing before. Making this leap straight off the ground was tricky, but with any luck Anyis would be able to land right behind Voulge and launch her counterattack.

Before that, though, Anyis had to figure out what to do with her other chip: a MagBolt. The two-pronged electromagnet, being a melee-range chip, materialzed in her free gauntlet-armored hand, making Anyis wrap her fingers around the weapon tightly. In a brief flash of brilliance, she activated the magnet and aimed its pull towards... the nearest Satellite Camera. Since she had been optimized to use melee chips like this one, Anyis found it fairly easy draw in the object with her magnetic pull, yet all she ended up doing with it was whipping her arm around to send the camera flying towards Voulge. With any luck, the camera would crash right into him and shatter that shield of his.

Since it had already been activated, though, Anyis only had a few moments left to strike before her weapon disappeared. She made her landing with all the grace she could muster, only to turn right back around and rush her opponent. There wasn't any time left to look and see if the camera sufficiently distracted him, so Anyis lunged right at Voulge, thrusting her MagBolt forward with maximum force to induce some Stun-loaded revenge on him. She was already making up for lost time at this point, though, so Anyis immediately backed off after the attack in an effort to avoid what might be coming her way.

Whether it was Anyis' rather ranting discourse to buy herself time or Voulge questioning his own beliefs, the strategy seemed to work in favor of the first side as, even though the knight held the Whiteweb capsule at the ready, could not proceed with his actions.

Grinning, the aquatic spiritualist launched herself behind Voulge with the aid of a cannon and went on to charge up her Magbolt. Voulge tossed the Whiteweb in a daze, but it really didn't stick to anything. He felt something slam into him, and judging from the remains of the object, it was a camera. The knight kind of held his Firebomb stupidly as Anyis bashed her Magbolt into him at full power, sending Voulge flying straight toward the outside barrier.

Crashing into it proved to be even more fatal when his Firebomb detonated when Voulge and the chip both impacted with the field barrier, sending an alert to his emergency jack-out procedures, and ejecting the knight from the network.

The computerized voice from the start of the match made its reappearance by announcing the clear victor, "VOULGE.EXE HAS BEEN EMERGENCY JACKED OUT FROM THE MATCH! THE WINNER IS ANYIS.EXE! CONGRATULATIONS!" With that, an annoying amount of confetti proceeded to shower the battlefield in celebration for Anyis' win.

Voulge returned to his PET soon after the explosion triggered the EJO sequence. He simply stood in disgrace as he stood still and looked like he was trying to cover his emotions with his usual silence. "...what was that about?" The navi only answered his SP's question with silence and looked up in to the sky. "let's just get out"

"That... was interesting..." muttered Mill in disbelief as the tournament officials cleared him for the next round.

"Of course. Any good woman can make a man question everything they thought was true." laughed Anyis as she returned to her PET, voice filled with the arrogance of experience as she totally masked up the fact that she really did freak out there for a moment. Still, the way she rebounded from that could make one wonder how many guys she has brought to tears before...

Concerns of his own were already bubbling in the back of Mill's mind, but he managed to shake that off after remember that he'd have to get on his knees and beg for forgiveness if he ever ran into Marius again. No dude deserved that just for trying to win a battle. Mill wasn't someone who exactly radiated testosterone and manly pride on a regular basis, but even his pride was reeling at the end of this. "Well, uh... Anyway, we aren't done here yet. Let's go see if we have our next opponent yet." said Mill as he walked out of the terminal room.
