The Hunt for Gloomers

DragonierMan and his SPs stepped into Okuden Net for the very first time, both figuratively and literally through a portal, ready to hunt some Gloomers.

[Requesting Battle 1.]
As the virus-hunting group arrived in the darker side of Okuden net, they found themselves at the edge of a grassy field, with woodland on the left and low hills rising far off in the distance to their right. Ahead, however, the grassy terrain grew sparse and damaged before long, giving way to rough soil and eventually hard-caked mud.

The source of the odd terrain shift became apparent as they drew a little closer; the land dropped into a muddy sink hole, forming a deep depression in the ground, in which a collection of viruses were making an increasing mess of things. Presiding over all, at the very centre of the mucky pit, a large muckfeesh was wiggling about on a very messy throne, wearing a fancy little crown on its head and waving a stick around in one fin like a sceptre. Behind it, on the far bank, a hovering CrazyRazy was weaving back and forth while the gloomer resting on top of it launched its boomerang repeatedly at a large target. They were both dressed in little green and brown tabards for some reason.

At the front of the pit, a stone battlement had been constructed, bearing similar green and brown pennants, and a mud-covered armadil grumbled in the muck behind it, and while a pulsebat flapped above the scene, the only creature currently clean of mud.

Upon the approach of the virus busting team, the muckfeesh moaned and covered its head with its fins, then swiftly ducked under its throne, pressing itself into the mud while the other viruses all turned to look at the new arrivals.

-=Battle 1, Start!=-
The four dragoniers surveyed the battlefield for a moment, enjoying the Netopian view in a non-Netopian Net. Though crude, the hardened mud fort was constructed well enough. Shame that it was all about to fall to ruin. "I will take care of the king and his castle. You three focus on that pair first," DragonierMan said, pointing to the CrazyRazy2 and the Gloomer. "They are grouped up nicely. After that, split up and take the rest down."

The other three nodded before spreading their wings to take flight. The grass swished and rippled as their wings beat the air, lifting them off the ground. Soon they were ascending skyward like birds. As they climbed they were wrapped in a skin-tight bubble of energy, as a thin layer of ablative scales covered over their armor, layering them in protection. Once they were high enough they slowed to a glide and took stock of the enemy above and below.

They all then shimmered, disolving into the aether, and disappeared. Drago was the first to reappear, shimmering back into his solid form while directly above the castle throne. He was still high above in the sky, which gave him a clear view of the enemy earthworks below. The other three warriors blinked into existance surrounding the CrazyRazy2 and Gloomer. Magistrate attempted to appear directly behind wherever the Gloomer was facing. Suzume and Aya appeared on either side and slightly to the front, forming a triangle with Magi. All three reached for their belt-sheathes.

The three swordswomen drew their heavy blades simultaneously and slashed across both viruses. Sturdy BreakSwords sung out as they left their scabbards and cracked the air with a wide arc. These weapons were a little unwieldy, so the trio had wanted to leverage their sudden appearance to catch their enemy off-guard, hoping to deal them a devestating three-sided pincer attack. Meanwhile Drago brought out a large triple-barreled cannon. "Perish!" he bellowed as he fired his weapon at the castle, ramparts and all. The roar of the cannons thundered as the three red-hot shells that streaked down towards Lord Muckfeesh's estate, intent on erasing it off the map, screamed. The din was shrill and piercing as they rocketed towards their targets. If the searing missiles impacted at their targeted coordinates, they would fracture the ground in plumes of debris, and shattering the stone walls and cooking the Lord alive.

#3.

After quickly surveying the scene before them, Drago gave his orders and the team took to their usual battle stations with swift efficiency, activating their protections and zipping skyward in formation. As they moved, the hovering drone virus shot out three slim light beams that sought out several of its allies, imbuing them with greater strength, while the Gloomer on its platform angled up and focused on Drago himself. As the warm glow suffused it, the virus shot a trio of lightning fast boomerangs towards him. Though its aim was good, tracking smoothly with the dragonier's movement, just before the first shot connected Drago warped, teleporting to anew position while the boomerangs whizzed by the space he had just been in.

Seeing his aims, the Pulsebat swooped in, putting itself between Drago and the throne below, flapping and shrieking in an aggressive manner as it hammered him with its sonic bursts. Despite the extra power the attack held, it was still only enough to strip off the outer most layer of Drago's protections. While the girls followed suit, warping into position for their own attacks, the armadil turned about, looking up at them and shuffling in the mud, stepping back and to the side a little as it sighted the largest target in the sky. What was it planning?

Whatever the larger virus was thinking, Drago was focused on taking out the leader, and released his magnum shot down at the field below. The battlement was obliterated and the king's throne was destroyed, whoever, when the smoke cleared, the crown-bearing virus was wriggling further into the mud, seemingly having dodged the blast.

Elsewhere, Aya, Suzume and Magistrate had arrived in an aggressive triangle formation around the hovering virus and its Gloomer passenger. The two viruses tried to respond as quickly as they could, with one swinging its boomerang around at the trio while the other shot a three-way energy blast at them. Between the two sweeping attacks, the pair of viruses managed to connect with each program once only, breaking through their first lines of defence, but no more. A moment later, a swift counter attack from the trio cleaved through the viruses from multiple angles and sent them both crashing down into the mud, broken and destroyed.

Drago still had his eyes on the king virus as it squirmed below, but just as it seemed about to try something, a blur of movement from his periphery alerted the hunter to a different danger. The Armadil had gathered itself, then launched upwards like a cannon ball, streaking through the air at him. Between Drago's own mobility and its fast, but ungainly, assault, the creature missed and splattered back down into the mud on the other side of the pit. When Drago looked back towards the centre, however, the king virus was nowhere to be seen – it looked as though it might have burrowed under the mud somewhere.

Bursting out of the mud a moment later came something more unexpected – not the muckfeesh at all, but rather, a battered-looking Gloomer, and a somewhat damaged-seeming Crazy-razy. It seemed the two weren't down for the count just yet.

The four dragoniers were a little startled as the pair of viruses they had just slain, rose up again out of the mud! Like daisies!

"Nevermind the grunts. Release dragons against the king!" DragonierMan bellowed across the battlefield to his three soldiers. The three nodded their heads in confirmation, before all four shimmered again. Fading away into the aether once more. It seems that they had new tricks up their sleeve this time around, focusing more on controlling their battlespace through superior maneuverability.

All four re-appeared just above the mud-soaked ruin, this time at low-altitude. Each held a large, ornate, clay container with the carved relief of one of the four elemental Potdragons. They put their backs to each other and dumped the containers onto the ground, releasing four ravenous beasts in the four cardinal directions. The snakes of wood, fire, water, and electricity, roared like lions and lashed out in wild serpentine patterns. They radiated outward to devour the viruses nearby, circling inward again to catch viruses on the opposite end of where they started. Their chaotic, hungry movements, would probably cause them to overlap their terrain-changing paths. The caldera of mud would become a swirling, primordial storm, that would be hellish to make sense of it all.

And the dragoniers didn't want to get caught up in this hurricane. "Withdraw!" Drago commanded again and the four shot straight up towards the clouds once more. The ground, what mess it was now, once more rippled to the beat of four pairs of wings. Soon they were ascending skyward like birds. As they climbed they were wrapped again in a skin-tight bubble of energy. Another layer of ablative scales replaced the ones that had covered their armor earlier, making them again dual-layered. Once they were in High Altitude they slowed again into their trademark glide, and took stock of the changing battlefield conditions.

With the defenders proving unduly resilient, the hunters opted for the more blitzkrieg approach and warped in together above the centre of the mud pit, scanning for sign of their elusive king virus. As they readied their attacks, the revive CrazyRazy shot a light beam to several of the other targets, boosting their strength again; this time the Gloomer and the Armadil received a rise to their strength, but, perhaps in error, the third light disappeared into the mud, seeking out the Muckfeesh to strengthen and inadvertently showing its location to the dragon knights above.

In the brief moment that the four warriors were all bunched up, the Gloomer released its boomerang in a cleaving arc, trying to strike them all from the sky in one go; Aya and Suzume were clipped by its strike, but it only stripped off their protective armour, while the arc missed Drago and Magistrate entirely. The armadil had turned about and was lining up for another flying cannonball attack, and the pulsebat swooped in to shriek distractingly at Drago again, but it swiftly tore wing for the sky as the group unleashed their dragon attacks on the ground below.

As the maelstrom began, a ripple in the mud revealed the elusive feesh avoiding the first dragon's strike, but as it passed, the mud shifted into solid grassy earth, and the virus was popped up out of the ground with an undignified flopping. It waved an angry fin up at the four above it, circling in place as it tried to muddy up the ground again. All around, the other dragons rushed and tore through the sunken caldera. One dragon hammered against the boomerang guard of the gloomer before diverting to easier targets, while another missed the revealed muckfeesh, but managed to tear through the low-hovering CrazyRazy before it could buff its allies any further. The gloomer warped to the other side of the mud pit, facing the storm of dragons, only to have a third dragon hammer against its guard viciously again, before diverting to strike the slow-moving armadil. In the centre of the melee, the muckfeesh had dodged a strike from another dragon, looking increasingly harried, until the fourth dragon slammed into it from behind, sending electrical shock waves across the ground and through the defiant virus once and for all.

As more viruses fell, the Gloomer warped again, further out to the edge of the grass, and well out of the reach of the ferocious dragons, but as it turned to keep its guard facing the mess below, it seemed to be reconsidering its options. With one last ditch effort, it lined up a shot on Drago and released a fast-moving trio of 'rang shots towards his exposed form. Before they could strike true, however, the dragonier reacted just in time, restoring his defences. the first boomerang striped off his outer barrier, and the second crushed his armour; only the third managed to strike in and deal damage, and the majority failure of this attacked seemed to serve as a final signal for the remaining viruses to begin fleeing the area.

[Requesting Battle 2.]
As DragonierMan and his posse continued along the network in an attempt to find Gloomers to erase from the net, they would come across a quartet of viruses, a sinister sheen emanating off them as a chartreuse colored Scuttler began to slowly chitter away with a Gloomer to its side, boomerang neatly in it's mouth as it took point with the Scuttler-3. Behind them to either side of the viruses, a pair of Fishy2's on either side, trailing a little distance away from behind the two viruses taking point in a loose formation. As DragonierMan walked towards them, the Scuttler-3 would let out a deep roar of anger at the navi and his SPs, the virus' body shimmering brighter as a defensive measure crackled to life around it, seeming to be the boss of the other three viruses. Battle routines engaged, Dragonierman and his posse would be thrown into another fight for the good of the bounty hunter.

Scuttler- is an angry looking insectoid creature. Unlike the virus it was designed to be like, it is chartreuse instead of yellow. This metavirus were made in an attempt to recapture the devastating power of the LifeVirus's creations, byte for byte, to the inclusion/exclusion of various aspects of their virus components, such as removing all flight capability, and cranking up their innate aggressiveness. That they were regarded as failures is more an indication of the real things' incredible might than the metaviruses' weakness. They're still extremely vicious, and very much prefer attacking to dodging.

Battle Mode: Elite! Kill the Meta-Virus to win!

Rogue Battle 2, BEGIN!
The four dragoniers surveyed the battlefield for a moment, as they were want to do in order to better plan their course of attack. "Make sure to aim for the rear hemisphere of those Gloomers next time," Magistrate comments to the others as they spy another Gloomer among the larger bulk of the Meta Virus. "We should take out the escorts before going in for the kill on the Meta," Aya suggests. "We should also spread out to the corners of the battlefield so they can't get a shot on more than one of us at a time," Suzume suggests. "Those are all good ideas," DragonierMan agrees. "I'll take the Northern edge, Magistrate takes South, Suzume takes East, and Aya takes West. Concentrate all fire on the escorts. We'll take down the Meta together after. Magi, use the MeteorKnuckle3 to make sure that the Gloomer dies, in case the rest of us can't finish it off."

The other three nodded before spreading their wings to take flight. The grass, soil, and mud swished and rippled as their wings beat the air, lifting them off the ground. Soon they were ascending skyward like birds. As they climbed they were wrapped in a skin-tight bubble of energy, as a thin layer of ablative scales covered over their armor, layering them in protection. Once they were high enough they slowed to a glide and took stock of the enemy above and below.

They all then shimmered, dissolving into the aether, and disappeared. Traveling invisibly and silently through the currents of air high up in the sky. All four reappeared at the leading edges of the battlefield, hovering at the four cardinal directions, like the four winds. They quickly waved their hands in front of them and a trio of energy spheres appeared around them. They each pointed towards the three non-meta viruses and launched their barrage of attacks.

Three red-hot shells spun down upon the viruses from above, parting away from each other as they each traced towards their individual targets. If the searing missiles impacted at their targeted coordinates, they would fracture the ground in plumes of debris. Meanwhile a trio of hard, metal, rocket-fists streaked toward the Gloomer, intent on shattering its boomerang and skull. A triad of slimy, blue blobs fell towards earth, elongating as the wind whipped around them. They rained down upon the enemy viruses like hail. If the viscus muck struck, they would gum up the viruses' locomotion and make it harder for them to get away. Finally, a triumvirate of beams lanced through the battlefield with unerring accuracy, blasting through the viral lines with electrically charged might. The rays seeking their targets in flashes of blinding light.

Each trio of attacks, when aimed at the Gloomer, would try to strike at its rear arc if possible. Though with the ever changing positioning of the battlefield, that might be hard to accomplish. Thankfully, they had spread themselves out in a diamond-like formation, so whichever way the Gloomer turned to fight, they would face their rear toward at least one of them.

#3.

Faced with a large, powerful adversary this time around, Drago and the team readied their defences as their leader gave his orders. The huge, insectoid virus ahead of them reacted quickly and with aggression, screeching as it launched a large ball of crackling electricity up at the quartet of hunters. In a blink, they teleported away from the attack, but Suzume was just a hair slower than the others and was blasted by the ball of energy just before she got out. Potent as it was, she was fortunate that it managed only to crush her freshly applied barrier and no more.

As they took up their positions around the virus group, the two fishies angled upwards and dashed to either side, aiming to ram each of the twins but both girls avoided their attempts, helped largely by the Fishies' own poor aim. At the same time, the Gloomer spun and tracked the group, settling on turning to face Drago as it launched a trio of rapid shots. Having only just warped away from the Scuttler's lighting ball, Drago was clipped by the attack and its rapid after-images, and the three attacks ate through his barrier and most of his exterior armour casing as well.

The four hunters readied their individual attacks, but the Scuttler was enraged by the elusive movements of its prey and reared up, screeching loudly as it slammed its limbs down on the ground again in wrath. a bolt of lighting struck down from the sky above Magistrate as it did, but not quite accurately enough to strike her.

Drago fired his magnum first, blasting the two fishies out of the air even as they tried to turn around for another charge. His third shot punched cleanly through the Gloomer's boomerang guard, even though it was facing him and put an end to the virus. With the field mostly clear, the ladies of the group were free to turn their own attacks on the Scuttler in a more concentrated effort, and the combination of its size, their superior position, and their choice of weaponry, meant that none of their shots went to waste. The first meteor knuckle punched through the meta-virus' aura, making way for the other attacks to hammer in as it recoiled and shrieked from each hit.

Despite this punishment, however, the virus still seemed dangerously hale when the dust and weapon fire settled. From the clearing smoke and ozone, an infuriated bellow preceded another massive electricity ball, shooting up from the centre of the field. This one was aimed squarely at Suzume, and she didn't have the time to escape from it; the blast ripped through the remainder of her armour and dealt substantial damage to he, sending electrical shocks through her program badly enough to give a slight falter to her flight for a moment, before she recovered. On the field below, the Scuttler shrieked again, jumping once and slamming its limbs into the ground as it turned in place, looking at its high-flying enemies. As it shook itself out, the electrical aura that had first surrounded it crackled to life again; the virus wasn't done yet.

Scuttler-3Scuttler-3 (Scuttler-)

Scuttler- is an angry looking insectoid creature. Unlike the virus it was designed to be like, it is chartreuse instead of yellow. This metavirus were made in an attempt to recapture the devastating power of the LifeVirus's creations, byte for byte, to the inclusion/exclusion of various aspects of their virus components, such as removing all flight capability, and cranking up their innate aggressiveness. That they were regarded as failures is more an indication of the real things' incredible might than the metaviruses' weakness. They're still extremely vicious, and very much prefer attacking to dodging.

Boomers cannot be damaged from any direction in the forward hemisphere so long as they carry their boomerang. Any attacks from the rear hemisphere or Break attacks hit normally. Boomers launch their boomerang when they attack, leaving themselves open to counter attacks. Boomers move by floating through the air, and are immune to the effects of Anchor. They are, however, still subject to the effects of terrain. They cannot be forced to submerge into liquid terrain, nor can they be buried in solid terrain. Boomers are horrible at dodging, as they generally rely on their Rang-Guard ability.

Suzume cried out and clenched her body tight as the pain of damage ran through her. "Suzume withdraw!" DragonierMan bellowed across the battlefield to his wounded soldier. "Magistrate, Aya, prepare for close combat. Follow me!" Drago said as he tucked his wings and dived. Magistrate and Aya's arms buffed out as they dived as well. The three screamed down upon the Scuttler-3 like vengeful hawks. A mach-cone formed around Drago as he sped towards the ground, Overclocking his systems for more speed. There was a roaring crack and a deafening boom as he tore through the remaining distance in a flash, slamming into the area the virus occupied. One by one, Magi and Aya slammed into the area as well, hulking fists smashing into the grassy plain like meteors.

All four dragoniers shimmered and disappeared right after. Suzume continued in High Altitude as she reappeared, dodging whatever attacks came her way. The other three appeared around the Scutter-3, ready to pummel it some more.

Suzu drew a Recover80 Battlechip from her pocket and crushed it in her hands, absorbing the healing goodness to bring her back into the fight. Meanwhile, Drago had drawn a giant wooden blade and attempted to slash it across the Scutter's hide. Magi and Aya pulled back their mighty fists and tried to slam them into the Scutter, hoping to crush the rest of the life from its body. Hopefully their teleportations confused the Scutter enough on where the next attacks were going to appear that it left an opening to exploit.

While Suzume pulled back and refreshed her defences, the others rushed in to engage the huge virus directly. As they bore down on it, the bug-creature shifted and turned, then launched a blast of lighting up to meet them as they converged. Drago was able to spiral away from the lighting ball without hampering his assault, and Aya wasn't quite in its range to begin with, but Magistrate took the brunt of the blast full against her barrier as she approached.

A moment later, they struck hard, pummelling the virus even as it used the momentum from its blast to slide backwards across the ground and keep them all in its sight. The first hail of blows wasn't quite enough to finish it off, without every hit connecting, though it looked badly damaged now, its legs twitching and scuttling in erratic stomps as it exhaled a broad cone of electrical fog at the trio. Just as it did, however, all three teleported to keep up with it, appearing around the virus again. Drago had been a touch slow on his own teleport, still shaking off the dash attack's extra speed and impact, but the remains of his casing still protected him from the shock.

Surrounded again, the Scuttler lashed out with more lighting, all around it; a blast hit Aya, stripping back her barrier, and another managed to connect with Magistrate, this time rending through her armour casing and giving the newest of the dragoniers an unpleasant taste of what Suzume had previously suffered. A moment later, however, Drago's blade cleaved through and finished the virus off at last.

GloomerGloomer (Boomer)

Boomers cannot be damaged from any direction in the forward hemisphere so long as they carry their boomerang. Any attacks from the rear hemisphere or Break attacks hit normally. Boomers launch their boomerang when they attack, leaving themselves open to counter attacks. Boomers move by floating through the air, and are immune to the effects of Anchor. They are, however, still subject to the effects of terrain. They cannot be forced to submerge into liquid terrain, nor can they be buried in solid terrain. Boomers are horrible at dodging, as they generally rely on their Rang-Guard ability.

As Suzume recovered, Magistrate got beaten up. She grunted in pain as she tried to keep up her lady-like poise. "Okay, I've got the call to return." DragonierMan said as he was collecting their rewards. "We'll meet back up at Wrangler's." The four beamed out moments later.
